Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Episode 8: Realization and Regret

Time moved on…

But their hearts didn't.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks into months.

Life continued as usual on the outside.

People laughed.

Work went on.

The world didn't stop.

But inside Samuel…

Something had changed.

He became quieter.

More reserved.

Not broken completely…

But no longer the same.

At night, he still prayed.

But now his prayers were different.

"God… heal my heart," he whispered one evening.

"And if I ever loved the wrong person…"

He paused.

"Forgive me."

He tried to move on.

He really did.

He focused on work.

On family.

On building himself again.

But sometimes…

In the quiet moments…

He would hear her voice in his mind.

And his heart would ache all over again.

Meanwhile…

Zara wasn't doing any better.

If anything—

She felt worse.

At first, she convinced herself she made the right decision.

"It's for the best," she would say.

"I'm protecting myself."

But peace never came.

Instead…

There was emptiness.

The kind that couldn't be filled with distractions.

One evening, she sat by her window again—the same place she once stood the night she met Samuel.

The rain fell softly.

Almost like that first day.

Her chest tightened.

"Why does it still hurt?" she whispered.

She closed her eyes.

And memories came rushing back.

Samuel's smile.

His voice.

His patience.

His prayers.

The way he understood her… without trying too hard.

Tears filled her eyes.

"He was different…" she admitted softly.

For the first time—

She stopped blaming fear.

And started facing truth.

"I pushed him away…"

Her voice broke.

"Not because he was wrong… but because I was afraid."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"God… did I lose something You sent to me?"

Silence answered her.

But this time…

It felt different.

Not empty.

But reflective.

That night, Zara knelt down.

"Father… I need clarity," she prayed.

"Not fear. Not confusion."

Her voice trembled.

"If Samuel was truly from You…"

She closed her eyes tightly.

"Give me another chance."

Meanwhile…

Samuel was walking home late one evening.

The street was quiet.

The air calm.

Lost in his thoughts—

He didn't notice someone standing ahead.

Until…

"Samuel?"

He froze.

That voice.

Slowly… he turned.

Zara.

Standing right there.

Time seemed to stop again—

Just like the first day.

But this time…

Everything was different.

No innocence.

No mystery.

Just history.

Pain.

And unfinished feelings.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Zara stepped forward.

"Hi…" she said softly.

Samuel nodded slightly.

"Hi."

Awkward.

Unfamiliar.

Not like before.

"How have you been?" she asked.

"Fine," he replied.

Short.

Careful.

Zara felt it immediately.

The distance.

The wall.

"I've missed you," she said quietly.

Samuel looked at her.

Really looked at her.

And for a second…

His guard almost broke.

But he held it.

"Why?" he asked.

That question caught her off guard.

"Because…" she struggled to find words.

"Because you mattered to me."

"Mattered?" he repeated.

The past tense didn't go unnoticed.

Zara shook her head quickly.

"Still matter."

Silence.

The air grew heavy.

"I made a mistake," she said finally.

Samuel didn't respond.

"I let my fear control me," she continued.

"And I hurt you."

Still…

Silence.

Zara's eyes filled with tears.

"I thought I was protecting myself…"

"But I was destroying something real."

Samuel swallowed hard.

Her words were reaching him.

Deeply.

But pain doesn't disappear instantly.

"You didn't just hurt me," he said slowly.

Zara's heart sank.

"You made me feel like I wasn't enough to be trusted."

Tears rolled down her face.

"I'm sorry…" she whispered.

Samuel looked away briefly.

Then back at her.

"I prayed for you," he said.

"Even after everything."

Zara's chest tightened.

"And now?" she asked softly.

Samuel paused.

"I'm still healing," he admitted.

That answer wasn't rejection.

But it wasn't acceptance either.

It was truth.

Zara nodded slowly.

"I don't expect things to go back to how they were," she said.

"But… can we try again?"

Silence.

Samuel looked at her.

Long.

Carefully.

This was the moment.

The same question.

But different hearts.

"Why now?" he asked.

Zara didn't hesitate this time.

"Because now… I'm choosing with clarity."

"Not fear."

Samuel's heart stirred.

But still—

He didn't answer immediately.

Because love…

The second time…

Requires more than feelings.

It requires truth… healing… and trust.
