Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2 : YOU CAME BACK.

The air didn't move,

It froze.

As if even the heavens themselves were holding their breath.

Lin Mo stood still, his body refusing to respond, his mind struggling to catch up with what he had just heard.

That voice…

It couldn't be.

It shouldn't be.

"…Mo Ran?"

The name left his lips like a fragile prayer.

Silence.

For a moment, nothing happened.

And then

A faint ripple passed through the air behind him.

Dark.

Heavy.

Familiar.

Lin Mo's heart clenched painfully.

Slowly… he turned.

At first, there was nothing.

Just the endless sky, glowing faintly under the light of heaven.

Then

A shadow.

It formed quietly, like smoke gathering into shape, curling and twisting until it became something real… something alive.

A figure stepped forward.

"…You look worse than I remember."

That voice.

Low. Calm. Careless.

Exactly the same.

Lin Mo's breath hitched.

His eyes widened as the figure fully emerged from the darkness.

Mo Ran.

He stood there as if nothing had happened.

As if he hadn't disappeared.

As if he hadn't been the reason Lin Mo had been breaking apart piece by piece.

His presence was the same dark, overwhelming, impossible to ignore.

But there was something different now.

Something heavier.

"You…" Lin Mo's voice trembled. "You're alive…"

Mo Ran tilted his head slightly, studying him.

There was no smile this time.

No arrogance.

Only something unreadable.

"Disappointed?"

The word cut deeper than it should have.

Lin Mo shook his head immediately.

"No"

His voice broke.

"I thought… you…"

Gone.

Dead.

Lost.

He couldn't say it.

For a brief moment, something flickered in Mo Ran's eyes.

Soft.

Almost… gentle.

But it disappeared just as quickly.

"You let go."

Lin Mo froze.

The words weren't loud.

They weren't angry.

But they carried weight.

"You let me fall."

The memory crashed back instantly

That moment.

That exact moment.

Their hands slipping apart.

The darkness swallowing him.

"I" Lin Mo stepped forward instinctively. "I didn't"

"You did."

Mo Ran's voice hardened.

And just like that

The distance between them felt wider than ever.

Lin Mo's chest tightened.

"I tried to reach you"

"But you didn't."

Silence.

Heavy.

Painful.

For the first time, Lin Mo felt it clearly.

Not anger.

Not hatred.

Hurt.

Mo Ran looked away slightly, his jaw tightening.

"…Do you know what it felt like?"

Lin Mo couldn't breathe.

"To fall," Mo Ran continued quietly, "thinking the one person who chose you… would hold on."

His voice dropped.

"…And then realizing you were wrong."

Something inside Lin Mo shattered.

"I was scared," he whispered.

Mo Ran laughed softly.

But there was no humor in it.

"An angel… scared?"

Lin Mo clenched his fists.

"I wasn't scared of you."

That made Mo Ran pause.

"I was scared…" Lin Mo's voice trembled, "…of what would happen if I didn't let go."

Silence.

For a moment

Neither of them moved.

Then,

Mo Ran stepped forward.

The air shifted instantly.

Darkness spread subtly around him, pressing against the light, challenging it.

Lin Mo didn't step back.

They stood close again.

Too close.

"Say it properly," Mo Ran murmured.

Lin Mo's breath caught.

"Say that you chose Heaven," he continued softly, his eyes locking onto Lin Mo's, "over me."

The words hung between them.

Sharp.

Unavoidable.

Lin Mo opened his mouth

But nothing came out.

Because he couldn't.

And that

That was the answer.

Mo Ran's gaze darkened.

"…I see."

He turned slightly, as if ready to leave.

Panic hit Lin Mo instantly.

Before he could think,

He reached out.

And grabbed his wrist.

The moment their skin touched

Power surged again.

Not as violent as before.

But deeper.

Stronger.

Like something that had been waiting…

To reconnect.

Mo Ran froze.

Lin Mo's grip tightened.

"Don't go."

The words came out desperate.

Raw.

Uncontrolled.

For a second..

Just one second,

Mo Ran didn't move.

Then slowly…

He looked down at Lin Mo's hand holding him.

"…You're still the same," he murmured.

Lin Mo shook his head.

"I'm not."

Mo Ran's eyes lifted to meet his again.

"…Then prove it."

Silence.

The challenge was clear.

Lin Mo's heart pounded.

Behind him,

The gates of Heaven stood.

Unchanging.

Watching.

In front of him

Mo Ran stood.

Waiting.

Two worlds.

One choice.

Lin Mo's grip didn't loosen.

"…I won't let you fall again."

Mo Ran stilled.

Something shifted in his expression.

Something dangerous.

Something soft.

"…You don't get to say that now."

But he didn't pull away.

And that

That was enough.
