Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 :THE DAY I LET YOU FALL.

The sky had never felt this empty.

It stretched endlessly above the heavens, vast and silent, painted in soft gold and pale blue… untouched by chaos, untouched by sin.

Untouched by him.

Lin Mo stood alone at the edge of the celestial realm, where the clouds thinned and the light began to fade into something unknown. His white robes moved gently with the wind, brushing against his ankles like whispers that refused to leave him.

Everything was the same.

The gates behind him still shimmered with divine light.

The air still carried that calm, sacred stillness.

And yet

Everything had changed.

"I should have let you fall."

His voice broke the silence.

Soft. Barely above a whisper.

But it carried.

It always did.

Lin Mo lowered his gaze slowly, his long lashes casting faint shadows over eyes that no longer held the same innocence they once did.

Far below, beneath layers of clouds and fading light… darkness waited.

It had always been there.

He just never thought he would choose it.

A faint golden glow surrounded him, his aura still pure, still radiant but unstable, flickering like a dying flame. Power rested within him, immense and terrifying, yet it felt distant… as if it no longer belonged to him.

Or perhaps

He no longer belonged to it.

His fingers trembled slightly at his side.

Not from fear.

But from memory.

"…I should have hated you."

The words slipped out before he could stop them.

A bitter smile touched his lips, fragile and full of regret.

"But I didn't."

The wind grew stronger.

For a moment, it almost felt like something was calling him back.

Or pulling him down.

Lin Mo closed his eyes.

And just like that

The past unfolded.

Then

The first time he saw him…

The sky was not calm.

It had been a day of disturbance.

Even within the heavens, something had felt… wrong.

The air had grown heavy, as if something foreign had slipped through the boundaries that were never meant to be crossed.

Lin Mo had been sent to investigate.

Alone.

He walked through the outer edge of the celestial realm, where the light dimmed slightly and the clouds thickened into something more solid, more real.

That was when he felt it.

A presence.

Dark.

Sharp.

Unfamiliar.

"You're not supposed to be here."

His voice had been steady. Calm. Untouched by fear.

But his heart

His heart had reacted before he understood why.

From the shadows between the clouds, a figure stepped forward.

Tall.

Composed.

Wrapped in darkness that clung to him like a second skin.

Mo Ran.

Even injured, he looked dangerous.

A faint trail of dark energy curled around his arm, spreading slowly like poison beneath his skin. His breathing was uneven, but his expression…

Was arrogant.

Unbothered.

Their eyes met.

And in that moment

Something shifted.

Mo Ran didn't bow.

Didn't retreat.

Instead, he tilted his head slightly, studying Lin Mo as if he had just found something… interesting.

"Then stop me."

There was no fear in his voice.

No hesitation.

Only challenge.

Lin Mo should have attacked.

That was the rule.

That was what he had been created to do.

Destroy darkness. Protect the balance.

But he didn't move.

His gaze dropped slightly, noticing the spreading corruption along Mo Ran's arm.

"You're injured."

Silence.

Just for a second

Mo Ran looked surprised.

Then it disappeared.

"So what?"

Lin Mo stepped closer.

That was his first mistake.

The air shifted immediately.

The distance between them closed, and suddenly, the difference between light and darkness didn't feel so absolute anymore.

"It's spreading," Lin Mo said quietly. "If it reaches your core, you'll"

"Die?"

Mo Ran let out a low laugh.

"Demons don't die that easily, angel."

Angel.

The way he said it…

It wasn't mocking.

It wasn't respectful either.

It was something in between.

Something that made Lin Mo's chest tighten in a way he didn't understand.

"You should leave," Lin Mo said, though his voice lacked its usual authority.

"This place isn't for you."

Mo Ran took a step closer instead.

Now they were too close.

Dangerously close.

"And yet," he murmured, his voice lower now, softer, "you haven't attacked me."

Lin Mo stilled.

"Why?"

He didn't have an answer.

And that

That was his second mistake.

Without thinking, Lin Mo reached out.

For a moment, even time seemed to hesitate.

Mo Ran's eyes flickered down to his hand.

He didn't move away.

Their fingers touched.

And the world

Broke.

A violent surge of power exploded between them, light clashing against darkness in a blinding collision that tore through the sky itself.

The clouds split.

The air screamed.

Energy spiraled outward in waves, shaking the very foundation of the heavens.

Lin Mo gasped, his body tensing as something ancient, something uncontrollable awakened within him.

His light flared

Too bright.

Too wild.

Mo Ran froze.

For the first time, the arrogance on his face cracked.

"What… are you?"

Lin Mo couldn't answer.

Because even he didn't know.

But in that moment

Something had already begun.

Something forbidden.

Something irreversible.

High above, far beyond their sight

The heavens had felt it.

Back in the present

Lin Mo's eyes snapped open, his breath uneven, his chest rising and falling as if he had just relived everything all over again.

Tears slipped down his face silently.

"…That was the moment."

His voice trembled.

"The moment I chose you."

His hand lifted slightly into the empty air.

Reaching.

Searching.

For someone who was no longer there.

"…Mo Ran."

Silence answered him.

Cold.

Endless.

And yet

"…Then why…"

A voice.

Faint.

Broken.

But unmistakable.

"…did you let go?"

Lin Mo froze.

His entire body went still.

No.

That voice

Slowly… slowly…

He turned around.

His heart pounded.

Loud.

Unsteady.

Impossible.

"Mo… Ran?"
