Chapter 12 - Chapter-11 : The First Battle- Shadows Unleashed

The hallway stretched before us like a black tunnel from a nightmare. Every corner seemed alive, breathing, shifting. I could feel the shadows moving beneath the flickering lights, waiting for a mistake.

"Stay close," Mira whispered. Her hands glowed faintly, a soft blue light that pushed the darkness back a little.

Felix groaned. "I hate glowing hands. I hate glowing hands so much."

Lara elbowed him. "Relax, drama king. Maybe it's a magic flashlight. Or a 'don't die' signal."

Sarah's voice cut through their bickering. "We need a plan. Mira, can you control them long enough for us to get through the hallway?"

Mira's eyes narrowed. "I can… but it'll drain me. If I lose focus even for a second, they'll attack."

Kai, ever the logical one, scanned the shadows. "Then we move fast. Don't hesitate. If the creature notices hesitation, it'll learn our patterns. That's exactly what it wants."

I swallowed hard. My heart was racing. This was it—the first real fight. Not just running from impossible things, but facing them.

The first shadow lunged. It stretched unnaturally, long limbs reaching like black smoke with claws. Felix screamed and swung a chair, hitting… something. The shadow recoiled slightly, giving us a fraction of a second to move.

"Good enough!" Lara yelled. "That's a victory! One out of five stars, but we'll take it!"

Sarah shoved us forward. "Keep moving!"

Another shadow appeared, mimicking Sarah's own voice. "Sarah… leave me…" it hissed.

I froze for a second—then realized it was trying to manipulate us. I shook my head and kept running.

Mira's glow pulsed, and the shadows hesitated, stretching but unable to strike. "Focus on me! All of you!" she shouted.

Felix tripped, hitting the floor hard. Lara grabbed him and dragged him up, muttering, "Don't die before the joke, please!"

Kai was calculating distances, corners, and timing, guiding us. "Left here! Right there! Go! Go!"

The faceless creature appeared at the end of the hall, taller than ever. Its limbs bent impossibly. It tilted its head at Mira, and I could swear it recognized her.

Mira's hands glowed brighter. "…You don't control me," she whispered. The shadows froze completely.

That was all the signal we needed.

"RUN!" Sarah shouted.

We sprinted past the creature, Felix screaming the entire way. Lara was yelling bad jokes like some kind of absurd battle chant. I followed, adrenaline and terror mixing in my veins.

The hallway seemed endless, but finally, a door appeared. Mira focused her energy, and the shadows stopped at the threshold.

We slammed the door shut. The creature pounded against it once, twice… then silence.

We collapsed in a heap, gasping for air.

Felix groaned. "I hate everything. I'm done. I quit horror forever."

Lara grinned. "Congratulations, you survived your first comedy horror fight. Not bad!"

Sarah glared at her. "Lara, please."

Mira sank to her knees, exhausted, but her eyes still glowed faintly. "This is just the beginning," she said.

I realized she was right.

The school was far from done with us.
