Chapter 1 - Story: “The Promise of the Last Afternoon”

In a corner of the city, there was a small library. Not many people went there. The smell of old books, a wooden table by the window, and the soft light of the afternoon—together, it felt like another world.

That's where Arif and Mehrin first met.

Arif used to sit in the library every afternoon and study. He was a very simple boy—quiet, kept to himself, and loved to dream. And Mehrin? She was completely the opposite—cheerful, lively, and a bit mischievous.

On the first day, Mehrin sat at the table next to Arif. After a while, she suddenly asked,

"Have you read this book before?"

Arif looked up, a bit surprised. The girl was smiling.

"No… I mean… I haven't," he replied shyly.

"Then you should read it. It's a beautiful story. The ending will make you cry."

And that was the beginning. Day by day, their conversations grew.

🌼 The Beginning of Friendship

At first, they talked about books, then studies, then small stories of life.

Mehrin often said, "You know, one day I'll do something really big."

Arif would smile and say, "You're already big—your dreams are big."

Slowly, their afternoons began to pass together. That corner of the library became their own place.

One day, it was raining. Standing by the window, Mehrin said,

"I really love the rain… it feels like it washes away all the sadness."

Arif stayed quiet for a moment, then said,

"Then why are you smiling today? You don't have any sadness."

Mehrin paused, then softly said,

"Everyone has some sadness… not everyone shows it."

That day, for the first time, Arif understood—Mehrin wasn't just a cheerful girl; she had many hidden stories inside her.

🌷 A Change in Feelings

Days passed. Their conversations grew deeper.

One day, Mehrin didn't come. The whole library felt empty to Arif. He couldn't focus on his book.

The next day when she came, Arif said a little angrily,

"Why didn't you come yesterday?"

Mehrin looked surprised. "Did you wait for me?"

Arif smiled slightly. "Yeah… maybe."

Mehrin stayed quiet for a moment, then said softly,

"I feel strange too when I don't talk to you."

From that day, their relationship changed. They didn't say anything, but both understood—it had become more than friendship.

🌹 An Unknown Fear

One day, Mehrin was very quiet.

Arif asked, "What happened?"

She said slowly, "I might have to leave this city."

Arif's heart trembled. "Where?"

"Dad got transferred… to another city."

Arif couldn't say anything.

That afternoon felt heavy. They both sat silently.

🌺 Confession

The last day. Mehrin was leaving.

They sat at the same table.

Mehrin said, "You know, I'll miss this place the most."

Arif replied softly, "Not the place… the person."

Mehrin looked at him.

Arif gathered courage and said,

"I don't know what this is… but if I don't talk to you, if I don't see you… my day feels incomplete."

Tears filled Mehrin's eyes. "Mine too."

A silence followed—but that silence said everything.

🌼 The Promise of the Last Afternoon

It was time to say goodbye.

Mehrin said, "We may go far away… but remember one thing—some relationships don't fade with distance."

Arif smiled gently. "And some stories don't end… they just pause."

Mehrin said, "One day we'll meet again… maybe in this very library."

Arif said, "I'll wait."

A few years later…

Same library. Same table.

Arif still came there sometimes.

One day, the door opened.

"Have you read this book before?"

Arif looked up…

The same smile.

Mehrin.

Their story began again.

The library door opened softly.

"Have you read this book before?"

At first, Arif couldn't believe it. After so many years, the same voice, the same smile.

"Mehrin… you?" his voice trembled.

Mehrin smiled. "Yes… it's me. So you recognized me?"

Arif smiled. "How could I ever forget you?"

They stayed silent for a while. The same old silence—but now it was filled with unspoken words, not discomfort.

🌼 Stories of Lost Time

They sat again at the old table.

Arif asked, "Where have you been all this time?"

Mehrin looked out the window.

"Many places… new cities, new people… but nowhere felt like home."

"And now?" Arif asked.

"Now it feels like I've come back to the right place."

In that one sentence, Arif felt the answer to years of waiting.

🌷 Unspoken Words

After a while, Mehrin asked, "Do you still come here?"

Arif smiled. "Yes… sometimes. It feels like someone will come and ask—have you read this book?"

Mehrin stayed quiet. Then softly asked,

"Did you wait for me?"

The question was simple, but the answer wasn't.

Arif said,

"I didn't know if you'd come back… but I felt our story wasn't over."

Tears filled Mehrin's eyes, but she smiled.

🌹 A New Beginning, Old Feelings

Days started to change again.

They began meeting in the afternoons once more. But now they weren't the same teenagers—time had taught them a lot.

One day, Mehrin said, "You know, I'm scared…"

"Of what?" Arif asked.

"What if I get lost again?"

Arif said firmly,

"This time, I won't let you go… and you shouldn't lose yourself either."

Mehrin smiled softly. "Maybe that's why I came back."

🌺 A New Promise

One evening, the sun was setting. Soft light came through the window—just like before.

Arif said, "Shall we finish our story this time?"

Mehrin asked, "What do you mean?"

"I mean… we won't stop halfway anymore."

Mehrin paused. "Life isn't as easy as a story, Arif…"

Arif smiled. "But we can still write it—little by little."

Mehrin nodded. "Okay… but I have one condition."

"What condition?"

"No matter how hard it gets, we won't stop talking."

Arif extended his hand. "Deal?"

Mehrin held it. "Deal."

🌸 Final Words (of this part)

In that small library, two people sit together again.

Their story is no longer just about "waiting"—

Now it's about "effort," "trust," and "moving forward together."

Maybe there will be problems ahead, maybe misunderstandings…

But this time, they know—

Love isn't just about being together,

It's about trying not to lose each
