Chapter 1 - Miserable

Year 2035

Amidst the smell of fire and wine, amidst the blood shed and corpses, between heaven and earth was standing, he.

"I am a strong person, but I am also a pitiful person." December Evergreens fell. "If this corrupted spell really works, in my next life..." Before he could finish his words, the spell activated.

Level 7 spell: [False memory]

The world broke into shards like it was a glass. The memories of this world flashed backwards, he watched himself turn from old to young, and to a teenager.

Year 1990

Simer groceries,

"Ah!hahahaahahahhaa!" a young man suddenly burst into laughter, his friends were startled.

"What happened Evergreens?" Juliet asked.

December Evergreens didn't answer immediately. He stared into his arms with profound eyes. "Nothing" he said.

Evergreens looked at Juliet, "Hey, can I borrow 50$ from you?"

After getting out of the grocery, Evergreens took a different route. He bought herbs and eyes of vampire bats and got in a bus that took him to the outskirts of Tink city.

He then went inside the outside forests and like it was a part of his limbs, he knew every path in the forest. Evergreens found a cave deep inside.

His expressions were tranquil, his gaze deep, Evergreens took off his school uniform, first the shirt, then pants, then his underwear. He then lit a fire, keeping a blue flower herb and three eyes of a bat vampire by his side, he sat naked on the cold and rough ground.

He looked at the watch in his hands, 5:47, Evergreens began reminiscing, "This world is for those with strength, those who are chosen can awaken their 'star' and be above society. Today, in a few minutes, I will awaken my star."

A fire was burning in front of December Evergreens, his eyes were in the direction of that fire, but his mind was somewhere else. He didn't have the seating of a 16 year old.

Time passed and a cold breeze made him tremble, in the silence of the night, a feeling arose in him.

[Ascending to Level 1]

His body burned hotter than the fire he lit, at that moment, Evergreens ascended from the mortal realm. "Ah!"

[Level 1!]

He smiled, before he could do anything a voice sounded in his mind. "O! Chosen one! Eh, where am I?"

December Evergreens didn't reply, he closed his eyes and opened his mouth, reciting in a foul language,

"What are you doing?! Why are you here?" The voice in his mind was confused.

Immediately, Evergreens threw the herbs and the three eyes of vampire bat in the fire, the colour of the fire turned purple before surrounding him.

"Ah!" The voice cried out.

Whoosh

Darkness. "What, what did you do… I can't go back to my body… what did you do?!"

"I'll tell you what I did, Lord Crane." Evergreens's voice was light, but he gave off a darker aura. His actions made the voice shiver.

"You… How did you know my name? Who in the world are you?!"

The voice in Evergreen's head is from a member of the Dark Foundation cult. A level 4 at that.

In this world, there are people above the mortal realm, they can use the mythical powers of this world.

When they awaken their star and reach level 1, they get blessed by two level 1 spells.

There are three domains of spells, physical domain, mind domain and elemental domain.

They're the earth, sea and sky of a person respectively. The sea, mind domain, is connected with the mind path, space path and time path, and thus it's very rare and dangerous if nurtured properly.

"You used the unawakening spell to cut my connection from my star, making me trapped in your mind." Lord Crane spoke in Evergreen's spell.

Evergreen spoke back, "That is correct."

"But that spell is a level 4 spell, and you're a mere level 1, how did you… oh!"

"Looks like you got it," Evergreen smiled. "I turned the spell into a curse, and a curse can be used by anyone as long as they're willing to sacrifice."

Evergreen had also lost connection with his star, making him unable to use his spells, "but this would only last for 24 hours." Lord Crane chuckled, "You went ahead and took rivalry against the Dark Foundation, your future is in ruins pal."

Hearing this, Evergreens chuckled, but didn't say anything. "Oh?" He looked ahead and saw a man approach him. From his messed up hair and greasy skin, Evergreens knew it was a junky.

"Gimme all you got!" The junky screamed and took out a knife. "Quickly or I'll cut you into pieces!"

Inside his mind, Lord Crane couldn't help but laugh. No matter if Evergreens couldn't use his star, he was still above mortal.

After awakening to [Level 1], his strength was ten times more than any mortal.

Whoosh

With a punch as fast as wind in the face, the junky fell to the ground.

Evergreens didn't feel anything from this, his expressions were stoic, he bent down and picked up the knife and money from the junky.

Rustle

There was a sound. Evergreens turned to look and saw a person hiding behind a tree in the distance. It was also a junky.

But then, another person revealed himself, then another, then another…

"Oh shit!"

It was a battalion of five people,

"Two of them are [Level 1] and another, the leader I think, is [Level 2]" Lord Crane evaluated in his mind.

Above mortals could feel the aura of others who were above mortals.

"Tch" Evergreens frowned. The people he encountered were not ordinary junkies, they were from a criminal group called the "Homeless". These people would make groups with a [Level 2] as their leader and loot others.

"Looks like someone is in trouble." Lord Crane chuckled. In order to trap him, Evergreens sacrificed his own Star for 24 hours.

If he was facing normal humans he didn't need to worry, but the opponents were Above mortals.

...

This was a predicament. He could let them loot him off everything but his spells. "But these bastards will plunder my spells!" Evergreens knew they would try to steal his spells and sell them to the black market.

Even though he wasn't connected to his star, it was still within him. If the junkies knew he was off the mind domain then he won't be able to escape.

Mind domain spells were super rare.

Even if he refused, they could just kill him.

"Not good." Evergreens made a wise decision and ran.

Since he was from the future and knew the forest better than the homeless, he could only risk that they didn't have any long range or speed spells.

Sadly,

Boom

It was as if he was hit by a boulder. Evergreens fell far ahead.

He did not bleed or break any bones, above mortals have high endurance. But pain did torment him.

Evergreens tried running, "Ah!" But his legs were bound by vines.

[Level 1: Vines]

The blonde level 2 junky was approaching him.

The blue eyed level 1 junky pushed his arm just a little above him but he could feel immense pressure on his body, making him unable to resist.

[Level 1: solid shield] it was a blue shield shaped halo, a rare version.

"Ugh!" They beat him, and forced him to give up his two spells. These spells weren't ordinary, one was of the mind path and another of space path. In his previous life, Evergreens was one of the strongest people in the world because of these spells.

But what value do these spells have over his life? This was the harsh reality he was faced with.

After the homeless were gone, Evergreens lied on the maple leaves, blood came out of his lips as he bit them fiercely. Lord Crane was silent.

"Aahaha!! What a great start!"

After he regressed back in time, he had grand plans. His plans were to subdue the Dark Foundation by himself, make his own sect and influence the heavenly war that'll be some decades in the future. For his plan, his core spells were truly important.

After laughing like a maniac for only one minute, Evergreens stood up.

"This is truly tragic pal, if you join our sect, we will immediately get back your spells and also the homeless people would be kneeling and begging you." At this moment, Lord Crane in Evergreen's mind spoke up.

Even if he was schemed against, the Dark Foundation had great need of Evergreens. That's why he entered his mind in the first place.

In his previous life, Evergreens didn't listen to Lord Crane but was jumped by the Dark Foundation, forced to join.

But in this life, Lord Crane's will's connection was cut off from his body. The Dark Foundation had no way of knowing where he was. And Lord Crane's physical body was an empty shell, unmoving.

"I don't need anyone's help. This is only the beginning of my journey and I failed at the first step. Even then..." Evergreens wasn't ambitious, he wasn't heated, his voice was calm.

He thought to himself "Luckily I still have time before I really lose my spells. These homeless collect all their loot on weekends to sell in bulk. Today is Thursday, I still have time to deal with Crane…"

8:35 pm

With no money, Evergreens hid above a bus till he reached Tink City. He was now at the black market of Tink City.

"Hey Crane," Evergreens(EG) walked around the hustle bustle, there were stolen items and spells all around. "Since you're familiar with the black market, tell me the shops with the most spells."

Lord Crane felt humiliated as he was called Crane by this young fellow, who just got beaten and looted by a bunch of junkies. He also felt awe at the fact that this boy knew so much about him and spells and the Dark Foundation and everything.

"Why should I?"

"I might consider joining you."

"Ok," Lord Crane told him what he wanted to know.

He knew 100% this scoundrel was lying. But he was also curious at what this boy could achieve. He didn't have any spells, he was a mere [level 1] the people who managed the Spell stores were all [level 2] or above. He didn't have any money, not to mention he couldn't use his Star.

In Lord Crane's eyes, this boy was truly miserable.
