After hearing what she had to say, Xavier Lockwood raised an eyebrow. "And how do you know he isn't really being controlled? How much has he told you?"
Summer Thorne paused.
Xavier Lockwood never knew how to pull his punches. Every word was designed to hit where it hurt.
Fortunately, Summer Thorne knew his personality and couldn't be bothered to argue with him. "Sometimes," she said, "words aren't necessary."
"Oh." Xavier Lockwood nodded. "A meeting of the minds, is it? Well, let's just see how far that 'understanding' of yours goes."
It was clearly not a kind remark. While Summer Thorne didn't hold it against him, she couldn't completely ignore the sting of his words. She clenched her jaw for a moment, but ultimately couldn't restrain herself. She snatched the cup from the table and feigned throwing its contents at him.
Xavier Lockwood immediately dodged.
But the cup in Summer Thorne's hand was empty.
The simple prank amused Summer Thorne so much that she burst out laughing.
