Just as Summer Thorne felt herself about to drift into a light sleep, her phone suddenly rang.
The abrupt ringtone jarred her nerves in the quiet space, forcing her awake.
Summer Thorne glanced at the caller ID. It was the agent who had previously helped her handle the Sutton family's assets.
Though Summer Thorne resisted answering, her body seemed to move on its own, swiping to accept the call.
Only when the voice came through the receiver did Summer Thorne slowly raise the phone to her ear.
"Miss Thorne, you're back, aren't you?" the agent asked from the other end of the line. "I'm very sorry to bother you so late, but I just heard the news myself and thought I should let you know—the Sutton family's old residence is being auctioned off tomorrow morning. Did you know?"
Summer Thorne's mind was practically blank, so it took a long while for her to process what the agent had said.
"Oh," Summer Thorne responded softly. "I didn't know. Thank you for telling me."
