They had known each other for a long time, and Timothy York knew Gale Fawley's personality well enough to recognize the teasing in his tone.
Timothy York got out of the car, glanced at him, and simply said, "You picked a good time."
Gale Fawley arched an eyebrow and grinned. "It's always so loud and crowded. Don't you think I might want a little peace and quiet now and then? But they're all old friends, so I couldn't just not invite them. The only solution was to pick a strange time. The fewer people that show up, the better."
The two men walked into the main hall, talking as they went.
Though it was late, it wasn't considered so for those out to enjoy the night. Still, with only a dozen or so people in the hall, it was far quieter than usual.
As soon as he entered, Gale Fawley announced, "Everyone, a new guest has arrived to liven things up."
