Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Holding Their Heads High

The restaurant Zhu Min booked was called the Old Soldier's Canteen, a well-known spot in Qi City.

It wasn't expensive, offered great value, and was always packed with customers.

As for its downsides, parking was a real pain.

The restaurant was right next to a traffic police post, and the few parking spots out front were basically never empty.

He saw a spot out front get taken just as they arrived.

Qi Sheng quickly got out and knocked on the other driver's window.

"Can I help you?"

The driver had been thrilled to have snagged an empty spot, so he was a bit confused when he saw Qi Sheng knocking on his window.

"I'll give you 200 to let me have the spot. How about it?"

Qi Sheng deployed his cash ability, too lazy to park far away and have to walk.

"Absolutely, no problem. Bank transfer or cash?"

The driver's face quickly broke into a smile. He wasn't about to pass up a deal like this—it would cover his meal.

"I'll scan your code."

Qi Sheng deftly paid the 200 and returned to his car.

Once the other driver backed out, Qi Sheng floored the gas and claimed the spot.

After parking, Qi Sheng ran over to open the front passenger door and helped his grandmother out of the car.

The joys of the wealthy are just so simple and unadorned.

"This kid, he's so extravagant. Just to avoid walking a few steps, he had to spend an extra 200."

Zhu Min had seen it all happen and felt a bit helpless.

Her son was grown now; she couldn't expect him to listen to her about everything.

"Don't you worry about it. Our son is capable of earning big money, so what's a little cash like this?"

Qi Zhizhong, on the other hand, understood Qi Sheng and smilingly comforted his wife.

"Hmph, I'm just worried this kid will go down the wrong path. He's so young and has so much money, who knows how many young girls will be throwing themselves at him."

Zhu Min rolled her eyes and got out of the car as well.

"Our children and grandchildren will make their own way in life."

Qi Zhizhong chuckled, unable to argue, and didn't give it any more thought.

They entered the restaurant with Qi Sheng supporting his grandmother, followed by his parents.

They went straight to a private room at the very back.

Everyone in the private room had already arrived; only Qi Sheng's family was missing.

"Min, Zhizhong, you're finally here."

A few of his aunts greeted them with smiles.

The requisite pleasantries were all properly observed.

After all, they were all close relatives.

The occasional bout of one-upmanship was also completely normal.

"Eldest Sister, Second Sister, Third Sister, sorry we're a little late. Have you ordered yet?"

Zhu Min greeted them with a cheerful smile, casually revealing the new phone in her hand.

"Oh, Min, you got a new phone?"

It had to be said, his aunts were the perfect hype women.

Seeing how things were going, Qi Sheng quickly pulled his dad away to go order the food.

A lot of people had come today.

His eldest aunt and her husband were there. His second aunt and her husband came with their daughter and son-in-law. His third aunt and her husband were there with their daughter and granddaughter.

Adding Qi Sheng's family of three and his grandmother...

...that made fourteen people in total. They definitely couldn't order fewer dishes than that.

Otherwise, the lazy Susan wouldn't even be full, and that would look bad.

When you're treating others to a meal, you can't be stingy.

Besides, the cost of living in Qi City wasn't high, so it wouldn't cost that much.

"Let's order eighteen dishes. I'll go get the baijiu."

After helping his dad order, Qi Sheng went out to the car's trunk to get the baijiu.

To back his mom up, Qi Sheng had made a special stop at a liquor store on the way and bought a case of Lady Jun, a high-end baijiu produced by Qi City's local Beida Cang distillery.

A case of four bottles cost 1,100 yuan.

Normally, his family wouldn't dream of buying this kind of liquor; they'd only splurge on it when they needed to ask someone for a favor.

But now, it could totally become Old Qi's standard daily drink.

Qi Sheng had bought two cases at once, leaving the rest for his dad to enjoy later.

At over 250 yuan per bottle, it was definitely considered a classy brand.

And sure enough, when his uncles saw Qi Sheng walk in carrying a case of Lady Jun...

...the ones who knew their liquor were stunned.

'What kind of family is this? They're drinking Lady Jun now?'

As the host, Qi Zhizhong took the seat of honor without any hesitation.

The uncles sat beside him, exchanging bewildered glances.

Meanwhile, Zhu Min was with her sisters-in-law, lovingly showing off her new phone.

As for Qi Sheng, being the youngest, he simply sat by the door, ready to tend to everyone's needs.

After opening the case, Qi Sheng took out two bottles of Lady Jun.

He placed them on the lazy Susan and spun it toward Qi Zhizhong.

Qi Zhizhong chuckled as he opened a bottle.

"We called everyone here today for no special reason, really. Ah Sheng made a bit of money recently and bought a new car, and we figured it's been a while since we all got together, so we should have a lively gathering."

"He bought a car?"

The eldest aunt played along perfectly, asking, "What kind of car?"

"Just an A8. Not that expensive."

Zhu Min waved her hand dismissively with a grin, but her dancing eyes clearly betrayed her words.

"An A8?"

A collective gasp filled the private room.

Everyone was clearly shocked by the news.

"For real? Doesn't that car cost over a million?"

The eldest aunt asked, dumbfounded.

"Of course it's real. We just picked up Mom. If you don't believe me, ask her."

Zhu Min smiled at the old lady. It was time for Grandma to perform.

"My dear grandson has made it! That car is so luxurious, and he even gave me a red envelope with 10,000 yuan! Grandma didn't dote on him for nothing."

Grandma had always been biased, and the aunts were already used to it.

'Good grief. A million-yuan luxury car, a phone worth over ten thousand...'

'And the baijiu they're drinking is over two hundred a bottle.'

'It looks like my little brother's family has really struck it rich!'

In that instant, the way everyone looked at Qi Sheng changed.

It had to be said, Qi Sheng felt absolutely amazing right now!

He had never experienced anything like this in his entire life.

'This is what it means to bring honor to your ancestors! Nothing less!'

"Oh, our Ah Sheng just got lucky.

He bought that... what's it called, Bitcoin, in college and made 2.4 million.

He spent 1.3 million on the car and bought me and his dad phones for 12,999 each, so he doesn't have much left.

The little rascal is planning to head south to make his career. Who knows if he'll succeed or not."

Zhu Min was subtly indicating that her family was doing well now, but also that they didn't have too much cash on hand, so as to avoid the awkwardness of relatives asking to borrow money.

"2.4 million?"

The aunts and uncles were all, without exception, stunned.

Qi City was a small place. To them, 2.4 million was an astronomical figure.

What's more, Qi Sheng had earned 2.4 million at such a young age.

Who knew if he would earn even more in the future?

This meal left Qi Zhizhong and Zhu Min bursting with joy; they had never felt so proud and vindicated.

Their son was a credit to them. Who wouldn't be envious?

After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, they rounded down the bill, which came to exactly 1,000 yuan.

Qi Sheng had also had a few drinks with his uncles and was feeling a bit dizzy, so he handed the car keys to his mom.

"Mom, you drive later."

Zhu Min jumped. "How could I? What if I scratch or dent it?"

She didn't dare drive a luxury car worth millions.

"It's fine. The car's insured. If it gets scratched, we'll just get it fixed. Besides, it's a good chance for you to practice. After the New Year, it'll be yours to drive."

Qi Sheng smiled and waved his hand dismissively.

"Well... alright then."

Zhu Min was also a little eager to try.

All car lovers are like that; who wouldn't want to drive a luxury car?

Outside the restaurant, the aunts and others saw that what Qi Sheng's family had said was no exaggeration.

The Floret Silver A8 was incredibly eye-catching in the night.

Especially when the car started, the brightness of the laser headlights seemed to want to blind you.

They pressed their faces to the windows, peering at the luxurious interior.

The ones who knew a thing or two about cars were practically drooling with envy.

As Zhu Min somewhat clumsily backed the car out, she waved at them, and the car disappeared from sight.

Everyone was left feeling emotional. So this was what it felt like for parents to be able to hold their heads high because of their successful children.

As for their own kids?

'Forget it. Just thinking about them is infuriating.'
