On their last day before leaving for Veridia, two massive suitcases lay open in the walk-in closet at The Empyrean Heights.
Annelise Valentine sat cross-legged on the carpet, her chin in her hand and her brow furrowed. Piles of clothes were stacked in front of her. There were too many, and she loved every piece. No matter how she looked at them, they all seemed perfect. Parting with any of them felt like torture, and she was paralyzed by indecision.
After finishing his last few emails, Jett Westgate walked in to find her frowning at a few sweaters and coats.
He walked over and knelt beside her.
"Still not done packing?" he asked, glancing at the clothes spread everywhere.
Annelise sighed, exasperated. "Yeah. They're all so beautiful, and I want to bring them all, but the suitcases only have so much space. It's too hard to choose."
She picked up a plaid wool skirt. "This one's cute, and it would go perfectly with that red sweater... but I don't think it'll be warm enough."
