She found two perfectly sized black pebbles for the eyes and broke off two long, thin twigs for the arms.
By the time she returned, Jett Westgate had already smoothed out the snowman's head, making it look much neater.
Working together, they carefully placed the slightly-too-small head atop the snowman's chubby body.
And just like that, a snowman was born.
The head was a bit small, and compared to its roly-poly body, the proportions were comical, as if it were wearing an ill-fitting top hat.
The two black pebble eyes looked a little vacant, and the twig arms were stuck in crookedly.
It wasn't exactly a work of art. In fact, it was a little ugly, and even a bit goofy.
But as Annelise looked at this one-of-a-kind snowman they had built with their own hands, a huge sense of satisfaction and joy surged within her.
