Evelyn Grant specially brewed a cup of tea and brought it to the study.
She knew Preston Keaton preferred tea to coffee. Rick trotted happily beside her, and when he saw the door open a crack, he tried to slip inside, but Evelyn gently blocked him with her leg.
"Not right now, sweetie. Go on and play. I'll be back to keep you company in a bit."
Shut out of the study, Rick whimpered pitifully a couple of times. He waited outside for a while, but when she didn't come out, a maid softly called him away for a snack.
Preston Keaton heard the commotion outside the door. He reached for her, a faint smile touching his deep eyes. "So you still remember me?"
Evelyn Grant set the teacup down and let him pull her into his arms, settling her on his lap. Pouting, she mumbled, "If I didn't, I'm pretty sure Mr. Keaton would scold me."
Her antics made Preston Keaton laugh. "Poor Miss Grant, you sound so aggrieved. Have I ever scolded you?"
'Come to think of it, he really has never scolded me.'
