Chapter 1 - A taste of freedom

Astrid's P.O.V

The market was already waking when I slipped out of the castle silently with a hood on. Freshly baked pastries, the chatter of merchants, the way no one bowed or whispered "Your Highness", it all felt good. Among the commoners, i was just another girl bargaining for an item. I wandered through the crowd with the ease of someone who has done this so many times. I preferred to be here, than the castle where no one valued you. Back at the castle,i was just a powerless princess expected to fulfill her duties and nothing else. But right here, among the people my family ruled over, I had the freedom to do whatsoever i never had the chance to do in the castle, in disguise. I inhaled the fresh air that blew and paused to watch the children chase each other in the mud, smiling softly at their freedom. The freedom I've wished for and still wishing for. A distant bell rang interrupted my sad thoughts. It rang five times in a row and the crowd begun whispering to one another.*It's almost time for Her highness's wedding* * I wonder why a truce was sent to the neighbouring kingdom* they went on and on. Wait!the bell, it's almost time for my sister's royal wedding??? my heart dropped to my stomach. I would be forever locked up in my room until marriage if i don't return as soon as possible. I held unto my gown tightly and made a run for it. My personal maid would have given me a scold of a lifetime if she had been here to see me run. *A princess shouldn't run but walk with grace*. I hated it when she says that. The gown made it difficult to run as it was slowing me down. I usually prefer trousers to a gown but again*A princess should dress modestly*. I dodged carts, leaped over crates, shoved through the crowd and finally saw the castle at a distance.....
