Chapter 5: The Last Night in Paradise
The athletes' dorm shook with every distant explosion.
Portals kept ripping open above the campus like bleeding wounds in the sky. Inside the common room, twenty-three terrified students huddled around Alex and Elara like they were the only gods left.
Mia was crying again. "We can't stay here! The dead are learning how to open doors!"
A basketball player named Tyler clutched his bleeding arm.
"The cafeteria's overrun. We've got maybe two days of food left."
Alex stood tall, golden Warrior Essence glowing faintly around his arms and shoulders. The power had grown stronger every time he killed and every time he buried himself inside Elara.
He looked at the scared faces and felt the weight drop on him like shoulder pads before a championship game.
"We're not dying here," he said, voice steady and commanding.
The same tone he used in the locker room before a fourth-quarter comeback.
"Elara and I are leading. We leave at dawn. We head to Blackwood — the next town over. There's a military outpost there. Weapons, supplies, maybe answers about the curse."
Elara stepped beside him, silver hair wild, black shadows curling around her fingers like loyal pets. "Anyone who wants to stay behind is welcome to become zombie food. Anyone who follows us ,we protect you. But you follow our rules. No hero shit. No leaving people behind unless we have no choice."
The group murmured. Some nodded. Mia glared daggers at Elara but said nothing.
Later, in the darkened hallway, Alex pulled Elara into an empty stairwell.
Survival or not, the fire between them never cooled. He slammed her against the wall, one hand already yanking her jeans down.
"Need you," he growled against her throat, biting hard enough to mark. "Right fucking now. Before we lose anyone else."
Elara moaned, wrapping her legs around his waist as he freed his cock and drove into her in one brutal thrust.
"Harder, Ace. Fuck me like you own the apocalypse."
He did , pounding into her with raw, desperate power, golden aura flaring every time she clenched around him.
Her shadows wrapped around them both, stroking, teasing, heightening everything. She came with a broken cry, nails drawing blood down his back.
He followed seconds later, spilling deep inside her while the building shook from another distant scream.
They stayed locked together, breathing hard.
"I'm scared," she whispered , the first time she'd ever admitted it.
"My blood started this. If they find out…"
"They won't," Alex snarled possessively, still inside her. "You're mine. The curse is mine now too. We lead these kids out. We survive. Together."
A blood-curdling scream tore through the dorm.
