Mr. Arif has been living alone in a small mess in a corner of the city for the past ten years. Once, he had everything—a beautiful family, his wife Sumona, and their little son, Neel. However, Arif was consumed by ambition. In his quest to become a successful businessman, he neglected his family for years. He was often absent, even on Neel's birthdays or when Sumona was unwell, always using work as an excuse.
Once, a big project required him to go abroad for six months. Sumona pleaded with him not to go, as her health was failing. But Arif didn't listen. He simply said, "This money will change our future."
Three months into his trip, the phone calls from home suddenly stopped. A panicked Arif rushed back, only to find his decorated home locked and empty. He learned from the neighbors that Sumona had been admitted to the hospital with a serious illness. She had plenty of money for treatment, but without the presence and support of the person she loved most, she lost the mental strength to fight. On the way to another hospital for better care, a tragic accident took both Sumona and Neel away forever.
Today, Mr. Arif has more money than he could ever spend, but there is no one left to share it with. Every afternoon, he sits in the park watching little children play, imagining that Neel would have been just like them by now. He often writes letters to Neel in his diary, but he has no address to post them to.
He now carries a single, painful realization—once time and loved ones are lost, no amount of wealth in the world can ever bring them back.
