Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Seaside Training, Pikachu’s Raging Surf

The sunlight of Seafoam Island shimmered across the vast blue ocean, casting rippling reflections over the waves.

Ash rode his surfboard, weaving through the swells, while Pikachu clung tightly to his shoulder, enjoying the rush of the sea breeze.

"Pikachu, look at this ocean," Ash said as he balanced atop a cresting wave. "It gives me an idea for a special move—Raging Surf!"

Pikachu tilted its head in confusion. "Pika?"

Ash patiently explained, "It's a partner move that only a Pikachu truly in sync with its Trainer can learn. You need to perfectly combine Electric-type energy with the flow of water, releasing powerful electricity while riding the waves."

Over the next few days, Ash and Pikachu began their special training.

The initial attempts were far from smooth. Pikachu either lost its balance while gathering electricity or couldn't focus on controlling its power while surfing. Several times, it nearly fell off the surfboard, but Ash managed to steady it in time using his Aura.

"Don't rush it," Ash reassured the slightly discouraged Pikachu. "A move this complex takes time to master."

One day, just as Pikachu lost its balance again during practice, a swift figure suddenly dashed past them.

A middle-aged surfer with sun-bronzed skin deftly caught Pikachu before it could fall into the water. On his shoulder stood another Pikachu.

"Careful there, young man," the surfer said with a smile as he returned Pikachu to Ash. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Victor, and this is my partner, Puka."

Ash noticed that this Pikachu was different. It had rare blue eyes, with fine wrinkles around them that showed its age.

But what stood out most was its calm and steady demeanor, as if it had weathered countless storms.

"Thank you," Ash said gratefully. "We've been trying to practice Raging Surf, but we just can't seem to get the hang of it."

Victor's eyes lit up. "Raging Surf? That's quite an advanced move. My old partner and I spent ten years mastering it."

His Pikachu gave a slight nod, its eyes gleaming with wisdom.

"Look over there," Victor said, pointing toward the distant horizon. "The Humungadunga is coming."

"It's a massive wave that only appears at this time each year. It's the ultimate test of coordination between a surfer and their Pokémon."

Following his gaze, Ash saw a white line slowly forming in the distance.

Even from afar, he could feel the overwhelming power of it.

Victor studied Ash and Pikachu for a moment, then nodded. "You can try it. But remember, in the face of nature's power, we must remain humble."

The two Trainers and their two Pikachu arrived at the best vantage point for watching the waves. As "Humungadunga" approached, the ocean began to reveal its terrifying side.

The waves grew higher and higher, eventually forming a towering wall of water nearly ten meters tall.

"Now!" Victor shouted, leading the way as he and his Pikachu charged straight into the wave.

The aged Pikachu stood firmly atop the crest, electricity beginning to flicker around its body.

What was astonishing was that its electric energy didn't clash against the wave, but instead blended seamlessly with the flowing water.

Electric currents coursed through the wave, forming brilliant, flowing patterns of light.

Ash followed closely behind, while Pikachu clung nervously to his shoulder.

The power of the massive wave was beyond imagination. Ash felt like a drifting leaf caught in a raging current.

"Pikachu, don't resist—merge with it!" Ash shouted over the roar of wind and water.

Pikachu closed its eyes, carefully sensing the rhythm of the waves.

It began releasing faint sparks of electricity, but they were quickly swallowed by the massive surge.

Meanwhile, Victor and his Pikachu moved freely through the waves, their motions as graceful as a dance.

"Remember this feeling!" Victor's voice carried through the crashing surf. "Don't control it—dance with it!"

Suddenly, a massive wave came crashing down toward Ash.

At that critical moment, Pikachu seemed to reach a sudden realization. Instead of trying to control the wave, it gently infused its electric energy into the water. Golden currents began to flow through the wave. Though still unstable, the rudimentary form of Raging Surf had begun to take shape.

Victor watched with satisfaction. "Excellent! You've reached the threshold!"

After the challenge, everyone returned to the beach, utterly exhausted.

Although Ash's Pikachu hadn't fully mastered Raging Surf yet, it was already able to initially combine Electric-type energy with the flow of water.

"Thank you, Mr. Victor," Ash said sincerely.

The aged Pikachu walked over to Ash's Pikachu and gently patted its head with its paw, as if passing on some kind of ancient wisdom.

As they were about to part ways, Victor suddenly spoke, "Young man, your Pikachu has great talent. But to truly master Raging Surf, it must undergo one final trial."

He pointed toward the distant horizon. "Only within the giant waves of a storm can you truly grasp the essence of this move."

After seeing Victor and his Pikachu off, Ash looked at his partner and said encouragingly, "Pikachu, that was a great performance just now! Next, let's keep training!"

"Pika!" Pikachu nodded firmly.

And so, over the next few days, Ash and Pikachu continuously challenged the massive waves, leaving Misty and Brock in awe of the intensity of their training.

Fortunately, Pikachu rose to the challenge. Three days later, it was able to initially grasp Raging Surf. However, its power still needed to be refined through real battles.

Once Pikachu fully mastered this move, all future partner techniques would become much easier to develop!
