Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: The Evolution Method of Slowbro

After the New Island incident, Ash returned to Pallet Town and began making final preparations for the upcoming Indigo League.

Standing on the training field at Professor Oak's Laboratory, he opened the system interface.

[Current World Points: 24,700]

[System Recommendation: Comprehensive enhancement available for the tournament team]

After a moment of thought, Ash decided to invest 15,000 points into upgrading his team.

He carefully selected the most suitable enhancement path for each Pokémon:

Charizard obtained the "Dragon Flame Core," which, when combined with its previous Charcoal, infused its flames with Dragon-type energy.

Wartortle received the "Torrent Orb," which merged with the Life Dew, enhancing both the power and control of its Water-type moves.

Bulbasaur gained the "Photosynthesis Crystal," which fused with the Miracle Seed, strengthening its Grass-type abilities and recovery effects.

Pikachu's "Lightning Core Chip," paired with its existing Light Ball, allowed it to control electric currents with greater precision.

Primeape's "Fighting Heart" enhanced its close-combat capabilities.

Meanwhile, the newly joined Mr. Mime obtained a "Psychic Lens," improving the accuracy of its psychic moves.

In addition, Pokémon that joined later, such as Tauros, Muk, a Shiny Magneton, and a Shiny Pidgeotto, all received corresponding enhancements as part of the main rotation, though their upgrades would not be listed one by one.

After this round of spending, Ash was left with 9,700 world points.

Once the enhancements were complete, the Pokémon's presence clearly rose to a new level.

Within Charizard's tail flame, a faint dragon-shaped energy could be seen swirling. Wartortle's Water Gun refracted into rainbow hues under the sunlight, and a faint glow appeared along Bulbasaur's vines.

Seeing these improvements, Ash began to wonder if he should further enhance their training regimen as well…

Just as the special training was in full swing, Ash learned that Misty and Brock had already set off with Delia to travel to Seafoam Island.

Seafoam Island was famous for its unique coastal ecosystem and research into Pokémon evolution, and the news immediately piqued Ash's interest.

By coincidence, Professor Oak also needed to travel there to visit Professor Westwood V and discuss a long-standing mystery in the academic world—the evolutionary relationship between Slowpoke and Shellder.

"Ash, would you like to come along?" Professor Oak invited. "I remember you mentioned having some unique insights about Slowpoke's evolution."

Although Ash already knew how Slowbro evolved, he chose to keep that knowledge to himself for now in order to fully experience Seafoam Island's unique culture.

"Of course I'll go, Professor. I'm also curious to see what new discoveries you two might come up with."

Seafoam Island was a seaside town filled with a distinct tropical atmosphere.

Tall coconut trees lined the streets, and the air carried the salty scent of the ocean breeze.

Everywhere, Slowpoke could be seen strolling leisurely, dragging their pink tails along, wearing their signature vacant expressions.

They lounged on the beach, basking in the sun.

Inside Professor Westwood V's research institute, the two professors engaged in a heated discussion.

"Based on my observations," Professor Westwood V said, pointing at the charts on the wall, "there appears to be a special symbiotic relationship between Slowpoke and Shellder. However, the exact trigger for their evolution still requires further study."

Professor Oak pondered for a moment. "I've noticed something as well. The number of Slowpoke in Seafoam Island is significantly higher than in other regions, and the Shellder here also display unusually high activity."

Ash listened quietly to their discussion before offering a suggestion at the right moment. "Professors, why don't we directly observe their interactions? Perhaps we can find the answer in their natural environment."

The suggestion was immediately approved by both professors.

They headed to Seafoam Island's famous Slowpoke Beach, where large numbers of Slowpoke and Shellder gathered.

The researchers set up observation equipment and began recording the daily behavior of the two Pokémon.

On the first day, they only saw Slowpoke lazily sunbathing, while Shellder slowly moved about in the shallow waters.

On the second day, nothing much changed. Just as everyone was beginning to feel discouraged, Ash noticed a subtle detail.

"Look over there," Ash said, pointing at a rock by the shore. "That Shellder has been following that Slowpoke."

Sure enough, a particularly active Shellder was closely trailing a Slowpoke that was searching for food.

Suddenly, the Slowpoke's tail accidentally brushed against the Shellder. In that instant, the Shellder snapped open its shell and clamped down precisely onto Slowpoke's tail!

"Record this, quickly!" Professor Westwood shouted excitedly.

The Slowpoke that had been bitten began to emit a dazzling white light. Within the glow of evolution, its form started to change. Its body became more upright, the Shellder on its tail fused perfectly with it, and a hint of intelligence appeared in its eyes.

When the evolution was complete, a brand-new Pokémon stood before them—Slowbro!

"Incredible!" Professor Oak exclaimed. "So this is how evolution is achieved through such a unique symbiotic relationship!"

Ash nodded as well. He also knew of another method: if a Slowpoke held a King's Rock, it could evolve into Slowking, said to be one of the most intelligent Pokémon.

Professor Westwood V excitedly grasped Ash's hand. "Young man, your observational skills are remarkable! If it weren't for your suggestion to conduct field observation, it might have taken us much longer to solve this mystery!"

Ash smiled modestly, though he felt a sense of satisfaction at having witnessed this discovery firsthand.

Since it was a rare visit to Seafoam Island, Ash and his group didn't rush to leave. Instead, they stayed to experience a different kind of lifestyle.
