"Don't you dare touch me like you think you've won," Nina whispered, her breath catching as his weight pulled her back against the mattress.
"I don't need to win, princess." Lucas rasped, his hand sliding down her neck, over her collarbone, and down to the side of her waist as he pulled her flush against him once more, positioning his heavy frame over her. "I just need you to stop lying to yourself. So let's see how long that pride holds up."
The bed sheets lay tangled in a humid mess around her ankles, damp with heat and sweat. Through the cracked window, the faint smell of salt and cold rain washed into the small bedroom, but the air inside remained thick and suffocating, heavy with the scent of their skin.
Somewhere in the distance, a car alarm wailed and faded, an absurd reminder that an entire world still existed beyond these four walls, indifferent to the storm raging inside them.
