Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Princess’s Retaliation

The palace corridors were alive with a quiet unease. Courtiers exchanged glances, whispered warnings, and carefully measured greetings. Every noble knew that the balance of power was shifting—and that Liora was the cause.

Selene had been patient, observing Liora's subtle maneuvers and growing influence. But patience had limits. Today, she would strike.

The attack came during the afternoon court assembly. Selene stood at the dais, her expression calm, controlled, and deadly. "It seems we have a new voice influencing the court," she said smoothly, letting her gaze linger on Liora. "A voice that spreads doubt where loyalty is required."

Liora met her gaze evenly, a faint smile touching her lips. "I speak only the truths many hesitate to acknowledge, Princess. Doubt is not inherently dangerous—it is a guide for careful decisions."

A murmur ran through the assembly. Selene's trap was designed to corner Liora publicly, but Liora's calm and precise words turned the confrontation subtly in her favor. The nobles whispered, uncertain who held the advantage.

Later, in a private wing of the palace, Selene confronted Liora directly. "Do you think your influence can go unchallenged?" she hissed, her voice low but sharp. "I will not allow a nobody to manipulate my court!"

"I am no longer a nobody," Liora replied evenly, her eyes unwavering. "I have allies, I have knowledge, and I have purpose. You underestimate me at your own peril."

Selene's fists clenched, but she forced a polite smile. "We shall see whose strategy prevails. The next move will not be subtle, Liora. Prepare yourself."

That night, Liora convened her inner circle. Eveline and Seraphine had been monitoring court reactions and reports, and their updates were invaluable.

"Milady, Selene is planning a direct counterattack," Eveline reported. "She is gathering loyalists and seeking to isolate you."

Liora nodded, already anticipating the move. "Then we must prepare. The web we've woven will protect us—but only if every thread is secure."

Seraphine added, "I can handle discreet sabotage. Distract her allies, spread misdirection… it will give you the edge."

"Exactly," Liora said. "We turn her aggression into her vulnerability. Every action she takes can be guided into our favor—if we act with precision."

Later, in the moonlit gardens, Crown Prince Arion found Liora walking quietly among the roses. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes held a sharp intensity.

"Selene's response has begun," he observed quietly. "Do you have confidence in your strategy?"

"I do," Liora said softly. "But confidence alone is not enough. Preparation, observation, and adaptability are what will see us through."

Arion's gaze lingered on her, a subtle mixture of admiration and curiosity. "You are unlike anyone I have ever known in this palace. Bold, clever, and unyielding… and yet, there is a charm to your subtlety."

Liora's lips curved in a small, knowing smile. "Caution and charm are not opposites, Your Highness—they are tools. And I intend to use them both."

He regarded her silently, the faintest smirk tugging at his lips. "Then we shall see whose strategy truly prevails. But know this, Liora… the Crown Princess is only the beginning of the challenges ahead."

As Liora returned to her chambers, Eveline whispered, "Milady, the palace will never be the same after this. You've forced the first open clash—and you've survived with strength."

"Yes," Liora said softly, looking out the window at the glowing palace. "But the real game begins now. Every move will be critical. Every ally, every secret, every whisper… could decide who controls the court. And I intend to win."

The battle lines had been drawn. The war for influence, power, and survival had officially begun.

Liora Valerien—the villainess reborn—was ready.

The palace had become her battlefield.
