Chapter 5 - The Crimson Altar

The atmosphere in the Ruins of the Moon was heavy, it is an ancient place where the first dwellers settled, not with the typical scent of decay, but with the thick, cloying aroma of mountain lilies and ancient incense.

In the center of the clearing stood the Crimson Altar, a jagged slab of obsidian polished to a mirror finish. Arrayed behind it like statues carved from the mountain itself were the seven Elders. They wore heavy, floor-length robes of deep charcoal wool, fastened with iron brooches. Their faces were weathered maps of the pack's history, and their eyes—sharp and predatory—never left Lyra as she began her walk.

To the right of the altar stood the military presence. General Klaus was a pillar of steel in his formal dress uniform, his medals catching the torchlight like cold, dead eyes. Surrounding him were the high-ranking officers, their scarred faces set in grim masks. They didn't look like wedding guests; they looked like a firing squad waiting for a command.

On the left, a stark contrast: Kael's parents. His mother's hands were clasped tight enough to turn her knuckles white, her gaze darting nervously between the Elders and her son. His father, the former Alpha, stood with a heavy hand on Kael's shoulder—a gesture that looked less like support and more like he was holding his son back from a precipice.

Kael stood at the Altar's edge. He was terrifyingly handsome in a simple tunic of dark leather, his blue eyes burning with a defiance that sent a ripple of unease through the gathered elite.

Finn stepped forward, his arm steady beneath Lyra's. He felt the weight of the pendant hidden beneath her bodice—the "half star and half wolf"—and he could feel the eyes of Klaus boring into them.

He asked her my child are you ok? You look rather sad, I'm sorry for what happened but you look very sad since you left the house in the morning. Lyra said calmly "you were right".

Where's Flynn? I haven't seen him since.

He'll be here soon don't worry.

The General knew the White Wolf was back, and he knew something was wrong with the girl on his arm.

As they reached the first step of the altar, the eldest of the seven stepped forward. He didn't offer a blessing. He raised a gnarled hand, the silence stretching until it was painful.

"The Alpha seeks a mate of strength," the Elder's voice rasped, echoing off the ruins. "The line must be pure. The blood must be iron."

Kael didn't wait for the prompt. He stepped forward and took Lyra's hand, his grip a silent promise. "The blood is my own to choose," he growled, his voice low enough to vibrate in the chests of the military men. "And I choose Lyra."

You choose me? She said wearily almost crying.

You choose me or was i chosen for you?

The crowd gasped, general klaus and the former alpha gaze met, she knows. The general knods signalling for a plan to commence. Finn saw the both of them and made a signal of his.

Kael asked lyra what do you mean, what are you talking about, we've been friends since we were kids, we've know each other for years, my love for you is greater than any duty or responsibility. My heart chose you.

You know about this don't you? She showed him the pendant, he tried to cover it, she stepped back! So you knew all along why i was discriminated against all my life, why i have always been the black sheep of this clan, why my eyes set me apart, why I can't transform. All this while you knew but kept quiet just to use me, to marry me to what end? And you stand here speaking of love?!

I came by your house at noon, something happened and i wanted to discuss it with you. That's when i overheard you and and your father talking about me.

At first i was relieved that why would he encourage you the alpha to marry an outcast, then he said after the wedding things will change. Then it occurred to me if there was no ulterior motive he wouldn't, but my doubts are confirmed now. What did you do to my mother?!

This was the moment things changed for Lyra, the pain of betrayal, love, discrimination and loss of a loved one. Everything she that she has ever suffered it all came on thrushing through her veins that moment.

The pendant started to glow and made a ringing noise and a fell voice in the air Finn recognised it, it was Mirah's voice and gradually she became to transform, the voice casted some incantation and transformed fully into a black wolf not just any wolf but the Originals.

The General's hand moved instinctively toward the hilt of his ceremonial blade. The air in the ruins grew cold, the torches flickering as if a sudden wind had swept through—or perhaps, as if the forest itself was holding its breath.

Kael has already been moved by the guards the whole ceremony was in disarray, everyone ran.

Lyra aimed for the klaus but kael stepped in , she almost striked him when he called her Lyra stop! At this moment she stopped, their eyes met and a tear fell from her eyes.

This was when Klaus shot her with a specialised weapon and she transformed back to Lyra.

Klaus ordered the guards to take her away, but before anyone could touch her, someone threw a chemical into their midst, it was the smell disorienting chemical Rio used that he lost one. Followed by that was tear gas everywhere.

Someone jumped in and took Lyra and disappeared.
