Chapter 1: A Fallen Star and a Faded Dream

The sky split open without warning, not with thunder or storm, but with a clean, unnatural tear glowing in green light. From that rip in reality, a boy fell, his shout swallowed by the wind as he plummeted toward an unfamiliar world. "AAAAAAH—!" Ben Tennyson's mind raced as fast as his body dropped, one moment fighting a dimensional anomaly, the next thrown into something completely unknown. He slammed his hand against his chest instinctively. "Ultimatrix, don't fail me now!" But nothing happened. No flash of green, no transformation, no response. "You've got to be kidding me!" The ground rushed up to meet him—trees, branches, a dense forest—and then impact came violently. He crashed through leaves and branches before slamming into a bush, the force knocking the air out of his lungs. For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence. Then a groan. "Okay… that hurt more than it should've." He pushed himself up slowly, brushing dirt and leaves off his clothes as he took in his surroundings. The air felt different, lighter, calmer, almost too peaceful. No cities, no alien threats, no familiar landmarks. Just nature stretching endlessly in every direction. "Definitely not Earth," he muttered, glancing down as the Ultimatrix symbol flickered weakly, as if confused by the environment. "Great. Another dimension."

A rustling sound broke the silence. Ben turned immediately, alert. From the bushes stepped a small creature, yellow in color, with long ears tipped in black and red cheeks that sparked faintly with electricity. Ben stared. "…Okay." The creature stared back. "Pika…" The sparks grew stronger. "Pika—CHUU!" A bolt of electricity shot toward him. "WOAH!" Ben jumped aside, barely dodging it as it struck a tree behind him. "Hey! What was THAT for?!" The creature crouched again, ready to attack, completely unbothered by his confusion. Ben raised his hands quickly, backing away. "Alright, not friendly, got it!" His eyes scanned it carefully, instincts kicking in. "You're not in the Ultimatrix database… which means…" A grin slowly formed despite the situation. "…new alien species." The creature didn't seem impressed. Its cheeks sparked again, stronger this time, and Ben immediately turned and ran. "YEP, DEFINITELY NOT FRIENDLY!"

Years passed in another part of this world, and while Ben had fallen into it by accident, someone else had spent nearly a decade chasing a dream within it. Her name was Ashley. At eighteen, she had begun her journey with fire in her heart and a clear goal in her eyes—to become a Pokémon Master. In her first year, she entered the Kanto League, confident and determined, only to fall short at the Top 16. She told herself it was just the beginning. In her second year, she challenged the Orange Islands, pushing herself harder, training longer, only to reach the Top 8. It wasn't enough, but she believed she would grow stronger. Year after year, she traveled across regions, entering leagues, facing tougher opponents, refining her skills. Her team grew stronger alongside her, each battle sharpening her edge. Yet the outcome never changed in the way that mattered. Sometimes she reached the Top 8, sometimes Top 4, and sometimes even the finals, standing just one step away from victory as the crowd roared her name. But that final step always slipped from her grasp. Every loss carved away at her spirit, not her strength or ability, but something deeper. Her passion.

Eight years later, that passion had faded into something quiet and heavy. In a silent forest, Ashley stood surrounded by the Pokémon who had fought beside her through countless battles. They were not just teammates, but companions who had shared her journey, her victories, and her failures. She looked at each of them, her expression calm but distant. "You all did your best," she said softly. "I was the one who wasn't enough." The wind moved gently through the trees, carrying away the weight of her words. "You shouldn't be tied down by me anymore." One by one, she released them. There were no dramatic tears, no desperate goodbyes, just a quiet understanding. The Pokéballs opened, light flashed, and her partners returned to the wild, free once more. When it was done, only one remained. Pikachu stepped forward, its small form steady and unwavering. Ashley looked down at it. "You too, Pikachu." Pikachu immediately shook its head. "Pika!" "No… you should go too. You deserve better—" "Pikachu." Its voice was firm, its stance unyielding as it jumped onto her shoulder, just as it had done countless times before. Ashley froze, her composure cracking for the first time in years. "…Why?" Pikachu nuzzled her cheek gently. It wasn't staying for battles or victories. It was staying for her. Ashley closed her eyes, a faint smile forming despite everything. "…Stupid partner. Fine. Just you and me, then."

Back in the forest, chaos continued in a much less emotional way. "WHY IS EVERYTHING HERE TRYING TO ATTACK ME?!" Ben shouted as another electric blast hit a tree behind him. He leapt over a fallen log, not paying attention to where he was going, and collided straight into someone. "WOAH!" Both of them fell to the ground. Ashley winced slightly, looking up with irritation. "Watch where you're—" She stopped mid-sentence when she saw him. Ben blinked. "…Oh. A human. Finally." Ashley narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?" He stood up quickly, brushing himself off as if nothing had happened. "Ben Tennyson. And let me guess—" He pointed behind him. "—that electric mouse thing is yours?" Ashley glanced back briefly. Pikachu stood ready, cheeks sparking again. "…Pikachu." Ben blinked. "…That's its name?" "…Yes." "…Huh." He looked between them, still trying to process everything. "Well, your Pikachu just tried to fry me." Ashley sighed. "Then you probably did something to provoke it." "I existed!" "…That's enough sometimes." Ben paused. "…Okay, rude." Ashley studied him more carefully now. His clothes, his attitude, the strange device on his chest. "You're not from around here." Ben smirked slightly. "Yeah, I figured that out when I got attacked by Pikachu." A brief silence passed between them, both sensing how different the other was. Ashley turned slightly away. "If you're lost, head toward the town. You'll find help there." Ben looked at her. "And you?" She paused for a moment before answering. "…I'm not looking for anything anymore." He didn't fully understand what she meant, but something in her voice made it clear that she wasn't just talking about directions. Ben scratched the back of his head. "Well, I am. A way home, answers… maybe food." A small grin appeared. "So until then, I guess I'm stuck here." Pikachu tilted its head curiously. Ben pointed at himself proudly. "So congratulations, you just met the coolest guy in this entire dimension." Ashley stared at him for a moment before speaking. "…You're annoying." "Yeah, I get that a lot." A pause followed, but this time something was different. For the first time in a long while, a faint, almost reluctant smile appeared on Ashley's face. Above them, unseen, the sky flickered once more with a faint green pulse. The Ultimatrix responded quietly, and deep within it, something new began to stir. This world was unfamiliar, unpredictable, and far more complex than it seemed. And without realizing it, both of them had just stepped onto a path that would change everything.
