Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Today, I Become Jean

'Um, can I take it back? This should be a female character, right?'

[No can do. Also, do you look down on women? I'm shaking with rage.]

Why did it suddenly start throwing punches...

'But didn't I say before that I wanted to find a girlfriend?'

Anyway, making a final effort for the brother who had never been used.

[But what does finding a girlfriend have to do with gender?]

The Evil God's answer was also reasonable and convincing.

Then, a strange energy began to coil around, and consciousness gradually couldn't hold on, sinking back into darkness.

---

As 'D' held swirling mist in hand, using this soul as a base point, a female body gradually began to take shape.

A moment later, a golden-haired, closed-eyed, and completely naked girl appeared in 'D's arms, deeply asleep.

After admiring her like a piece of art for a moment, 'D' pulled out a glowing sphere from who-knows-where, made some adjustments, and inserted it into the body.

'This is a specially made'system' for you. Do your best.'

After muttering to herself, 'D' called out into the distance, 'Shiraori.'

At that moment, a girl walked out from the shadows nearby.

She possessed a face identical to 'D's, yet her aura was completely opposite. Her pure white hair was tied into a three-strand braid, and her ruby-like eyes appeared calm and unruffled, far more transcendent and aloof than the lazy, casual 'D'.

Taking the sleeping girl from 'D's hands, a trace of gentleness appeared on Shiraori's originally aloof, expressionless face. Looking at the girl in her arms now, she seemed no different from 'D'.

'This is your new junior. Take good care of her.'

'I know without you telling me.' Shiraori didn't give 'D' a pleasant look, just gently held the girl and came to a blank space.

Using her own ability, she connected the space and the girl's soul together, thereby transferring ownership of this space.

Then, she wove a large white bed from spider silk, made a set of bedding and pillows, placed the girl on it, and covered her with the blanket. Next, she wove a set of clothes and placed it by the bedside. After confirming nothing was missed, she left the space, waiting for the girl to awaken.

---

After who knows how long, she opened her sleepy, bleary eyes and leisurely stretched, as if she hadn't slept so well in ages.

'Huh?'

First was the incredibly clear, bright vision—a comfort she hadn't felt in over a decade since wearing glasses, a sensation long forgotten.

Then, she raised an arm before her eyes. Beneath the fair, smooth skin lay latent, vigorous strength. Clenching her fist, she felt the tangible reality of being alive.

'Right, I came back to life. This should be a good thing, right?'

Thinking this, she quietly lifted the bedsheet a little and looked down.

But her view was blocked by something large and white. With no other choice, she used her hand to feel around below.

'Didn't expect it to be hairless too... ah no, as expected, little brother is gone...'

After a slight, electric-like sensation, she hurriedly withdrew her hand.

Suddenly resurrected and turned into a female, her entire being fell into chaos.

'I really want to see what I look like. Wonder where there's a mirror.'

After simply complaining, a mirror abruptly appeared before her.

In the mirror was a girl with shining golden hair, the ends slightly naturally curled, adding a touch of cuteness. Her eyes were a beautiful grayish-purple, though currently reflecting their owner's confusion.

Her skin was smooth and delicate, yet not as pale as 'D's, appearing very healthy and appealing. Her well-proportioned features carried a natural affinity. Overall, she surpassed the girl in the game or illustrations.

Gazing blankly at the girl in the mirror for a moment, as if her whole heart was drawn in, she involuntarily reached both hands forward. The girl in the mirror did the same.

Amidst confusion and bewilderment, she spread her palms and gestured at the mirror, which also revealed those slender, jade-like hands.

No calluses, no wounds—perfect and flawless, as if never used.

Continuously making strange movements, the girl in the mirror did exactly the same. At this moment, it was as if something suddenly clicked.

'Ah, this is me.'

This was the beginning of self-awareness, the acceptance of a brand new self. The slight sense of dislocation, as if being in a beauty camera app, completely vanished.

'Since it's a brand new life, let's call myself Jean. Not Jean Gunnhildr, just simply Jean. After all, a surname represents heritage and glory, and I don't have those now.'

Having decided one of the basic philosophical questions, Jean felt invigorated. This feeling of abundant vitality, a clear mind, and a heart full of energy and drive was something she hadn't experienced in a long time.

If one word could describe her current feeling, it was 'healthy.' It didn't seem hard to achieve, but how many people are truly healthy?

Body, mind, spirit—modern people always have issues somewhere.

For the Jean of the past, having a healthy body seemed like a distant memory.

Wrapped in the bedsheet, she stood up. The suddenly appearing mirror was probably someone's doing, but no one had shown up yet. Were they secretly observing?

'Is anyone there?' she called out, a bit louder than her previous muttering.

But after calling for a while, she received no reply.

Meanwhile, Jean kept observing the entire room. Calling it a room might be a stretch—there were no doors or windows at all; it was a cubic box.

All six surfaces were pure white. If not for the black shadows at the seams, she probably couldn't even grasp its size.

The space was large, roughly estimated at 20 meters in length and width, with a standard 3-meter height.

A white bed was placed in the middle of the empty white room. The bedding and the clothes by the bedside were also pure white. The only color in the room was herself.

'This is too plain. It'd be nice to have some yellow.' As the words fell, all the walls of the room turned beige—the color in Jean's mind.

No other reason, just that yellow was easier on the eyes.

After a simple attempt, she roughly understood this space might be highly customizable. But Jean didn't act recklessly, not knowing what limitations there might be or what price she'd have to pay.

Next, she put on the clothes from the bedside. They fit perfectly, as comfortable as if tailor-made. No matter how she examined them, she couldn't figure out what material they were made of.

Although there was a special garment she had never worn before, after some simple Explore, she successfully put it on.

No longer wrapped in the bedsheet, she felt much freer. Doing some light stretching, her current height was lower than before, causing a slight uncoordination when walking.

So she started walking slowly, then faster and faster, to taking strides and running, even reaching speeds she had never imagined. The feeling of moving her body freely was simply exhilarating.

However, after all that exercise, she was drenched in sweat, sticky and uncomfortable. She had no choice but to use her imagination again, creating a bathroom.

This was Jean's first bath since rebirth, and also the first time she clearly recognized this body with her own hands.

When she came out of the bathroom, her legs were a bit unsteady.

'So thirsty. You really get dehydrated after a bath.'

As soon as she finished speaking, a fair, small hand offered a glass of water.

Turning to look, a beautiful girl who looked both similar to and vastly different from 'D' was standing there.

Though curious about who she was, the more important question was:

'You heard all that just now?'

Shiraori nodded expressionlessly.
