Chapter 31
There were good and bad things that one could grow accustomed to, but somehow, all the things Sylvia got used to were those not so good.
'But there is one advantage of moving around without an escort––it’s not awkward to get off the carriage alone.'
When I rode in the carriage, I found that it was surprisingly difficult to ride alone. There was a step to place my foot, but it was too high to get on without holding onto anything. Especially when wearing high-heeled shoes that made it more challenging to move, the difficulty level escalated even more.
'Escorts were not only for presentation but also to deal with these practical difficulties.'
Getting on and off a carriage was much easier with someone else's assistance.
'But just because it's easier with help doesn't mean you can't do it alone.'
Sylvia bravely rode the carriage on her own. Thanks to my memories of her, I was able to get off the carriage without difficulty.
