"Anyway, I'm glad I could see you again," Carlisle said calmly as Aiden approached me.
Only then did I turn my head back to Carlisle, nervously moistening my lips.
"Um, Carlisle..."
"Don't worry, Lili. I won't burden you any further."
‘No, that's not what I meant... Is he thinking that my hesitation was because of his proposal, or is he pretending not to notice and letting it slide?’
Carlisle nodded a few times, flashing a gentle smile.
"I'll send you another letter soon. Let's take it easy and have some tea next time. I'll be waiting.”
After his quick words, Carlisle lightly nudged my back and walked away without a hint of regret.
"...Lili."
Before I knew it, Aiden was standing right in front of me, and I sighed in disappointment, alternating my gaze between him and the spot where Carlisle had been standing.
Somehow, it all felt like a hurried blur.
