Chapter 2 Basil Granger
"Damn it! Fenrir, that bastard! Why is he still chasing me?!"
Basil gasped, collapsing behind the heavy cast-iron door.
This house, built in a winding tunnel carved into the hillside, gave him an immense sense of security.
The harsh sound of fingernails scratching on the blackboard continued.
Clearly, Fenrir Greyback was still scratching at the door.
Accompanying it was his utterly disgusting trash talk.
"Knock knock, this is Fenrir, my little lamb."
"Open the door quickly, let Daddy have a good taste of you. Prprpr."
Basil forced himself to remain calm, taking a deep breath.
"Screw you! Your father doesn't have time for you!"
Today, in this English countryside, the characters from the horror stories the little wizard had grown up listening to were now standing right in front of him.
The devil who liked to attack children, Voldemort's hound, the man-eating demon, the leader of the pack of wolves.
Only two doors away from him.
Yes, two doors.
Beyond the cast-iron door he was leaning against, there was another door.
It was the only physical entrance to the cave,
a circular door imbued with a Disguise Charm, blending seamlessly with its surroundings like a chameleon.
The door itself was crafted by fairies,
possessing properties unique to fairy forging: indestructible, repelling dust, and absorbing only what strengthens it.
It was also the core of the entire mountain's protective charm.
As long as it remained intact, no outsider could possibly bypass it by digging a tunnel.
And it wouldn't be afraid of setting the mountain on fire.
It was arguably the most valuable possession of the Granger family.
Its existence gave Basil a great deal of peace of mind.
He also had time to sort out his memories.
He was a transmigrator.
A Celestial Dragon from Youzhou.
And an orphan.
After his parents' sacrifice, the demolition of his home quickly made him a pseudo-rich self-made man.
Then he dropped out of college in his first year and began a life of debauchery .
At the end of 2020,
he finally managed to hook up with a pair of twin sisters from out of town through a game .
After their blissful union
, he woke up, took a sea dog pill, and was about to start an overtime game.
Suddenly, everything went black, he lost consciousness, and transmigrated.
He arrived in this magical world of Hogwarts, Voldemort, and Harry Potter.
He became a descendant of a noble old London wizard, a member of the Union Jack, who entered the country with William the Conqueror.
A distant relative of Hertock Dagworth Granger, the founder of the Extraordinary Apothecaries Association.
But the transmigrator's curse was shining upon him.
His parents died in the First Wizarding War.
Raised by his grandmother, he officially became an orphan a month ago.
Damn it!
He was an orphan before transmigrating, and he still is after.
Was this transmigration for nothing?
Even more absurdly, before today, he hadn't awakened any memories. He
was completely careless, always wearing a little red hat, skipping around picking mushrooms.
For wild wizards lacking lineage, werewolves, vampires, and giants—evil races—were easy prey. He
should have stayed hidden around the burrow.
Within the protective spell bound by family and bloodline, he had nothing to fear.
Yet, he repeatedly ventured outside the protection zone,
attracting the infamous werewolf Fenrir Greyback.
If it weren't for today's Hogwarts acceptance letter,
triggering the cheat code that had accompanied him through his transmigration,
a cold, mechanical voice announced: "[Hogwarts, Hufflepuff House, Seventh Year, Lane Smith. Data missing, unable to load completely. Load? No answer, default is yes]
," awakening his memories of his past life.
Otherwise, he would have been finished.
"Huh? I have a cheat code?" Basil suddenly snapped out of his daze.
He coughed and stood up smugly.
"Fenrir, you bastard! I'm going to rest now! Hehehe!"
"Just wait until I get my hands on you! I'll show you what a real Hogwarts student is like!"
"Immortal Curse control, Crucifixion mark, and then I'll eat the big melon—one melon, multiple uses!"
Fenrir looked bewildered: Do you think you're Voldemort?
Without waiting for Fenrir's reply, Basil walked into the tunnel.
Soon, he arrived at a living room—tube-shaped, more like a tunnel.
This living room was incredibly comfortable.
The soundproofing was excellent.
The walls were meticulously decorated, and the floor was covered with carpet and tiles.
There were plush sofas and chairs with yellow and black patterns and polished copper edges.
Here, Fenrir's disgusting noises could no longer be heard.
He needed a quiet space to think, to explore the most important thing at hand—his cheat code.
Basil slumped onto the sofa, his azure eyes hidden behind his eyelids.
"What a rip-off!"
After a short while, Basil opened his eyes, utterly devastated.
"For the first time, I became a transmigrator; for the first time, I gained a cheat system after transmigrating. These two pleasant things intertwined. And these two joys would bring me countless more joys. I should have been enjoying this dreamlike happiness. But why did it turn out like this...?"
Just now, as Basil focused his
mind, an aerial view of Hogwarts Castle appeared in his mind.
However, the aerial view couldn't be zoomed in, and moving the view
revealed only a gray-white expanse.
Only the [Spellbook] in the lower right corner had color.
But when he opened it,
there were no cards in the book.
How can you play a card game without cards?!
Moreover, the spellbook, which was originally level 100, was now only level 1.
The wizard attribute bonuses below were even more appalling:
+1400 HP
, +12 Attack Power
, +0% Exploration Attribute.
Opening [My Deck]
still left it empty.
The Echoes bar on the left was also completely blank.
The Wands bar was the same.
All that's left in this game is the [Spellbook].
Keep in mind, this game comes from NetEase.
Tencent games: Pay-to-win = You're my dad!
Some smaller developers: Pay-to-win = You're my grandpa!
NetEase: Pay-to-win + grinding = Schrödinger's dad (If you're unlucky, you're my dad; if you're unlucky, I'm your dad).
[Hogwarts: Magic Awakened] is a prime example.
The player is a transmigrator, entering school in the same year as Harry Potter.
The game is his cheat code.
NetEase claims it's an open-world, dress-up, pay-to-win, casual, social, and simulation game.
There's no main storyline, extremely high freedom, and you can choose any path.
Whether you run for Minister of Magic or become a second Voldemort, a rural terrorist, it's all possible.
However, to achieve this, grinding, spending money, and luck are all indispensable.
But now, without homework to spend money on, and without the main storyline to grind through, the classroom, and the Forbidden Forest—
isn't that cheat code useless?
"But, thankfully," Basil rubbed his golden hair.
Just now, while checking his cheat code, he also received some information.
The [magic book] in his mind wasn't fully effective.
It needed to be materialized—that is, taken out of his mind.
It was a matter of a single thought.
And once materialized, it would change according to the rules of the world he inhabited.
"Now...the moment to witness a miracle!"
Basil spread his hands, and a dazzling blue light burst forth.
A vast, boundless power descended.
A black book appeared in his hands.
At the same time, a message flooded into his mind.
Don't ask why it's not Fenrir; it's a transliteration anyway, so I won't change it.
