Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1:The Eye That Watches

Rain tapped against the windows like tiny fingers trying to reach inside. The classroom smelled faintly of chalk and damp uniforms. It was normal, too normal, until the door opened and he stepped in.

Black hair, sharp features, calm posture. Every movement deliberate. Rei Kuro. The new transfer student. He didn't look around like he was trying to memorize names—he already knew everyone.

The teacher cleared her throat. "Class, this is your new student. Please welcome him."

Rei's voice was soft, calm. "Rei Kuro. I hope we get along."

There was something in the way he said it—a subtle lie, perfectly clean. His left eye flickered briefly, a soft red glow barely visible under his hair, then vanished. No one saw it. Not really.

He sat by the window, silent. Watching. Not observing as a normal student would, but like a predator analyzing prey.

Within minutes, he had mapped the room.

Ken: loud, confident, a boy who thrived on attention.

Mika: quiet, insecure, desperate to belong.

Daichi: short temper, easily provoked.

Aiko: observant. Dangerous. She noticed everything, but didn't act.

Rei's gaze lingered on Aiko longer than the others.

"You'll be interesting," he thought.

Lunch break. Ken bounded over with a grin, assuming familiarity. "Yo, new guy! Sit with us!"

Rei lifted his head slowly. Their eyes met. One glance. That was all it took.

No smirk, no friendly nod, just calm emptiness.

When Rei left class that evening, Ken began his walk home as usual. Earphones in, music drowning the world.

Then the world stopped.

The music vanished. Footsteps around him seemed to ignore him. People walked past, looking through him like he was a ghost. Heart pounding, he called out, but no one answered. His breathing became shallow. Panic clawed its way up.

"Am I… invisible?"

It wasn't magic. It wasn't supernatural. Rei hadn't touched him. He had merely pulled on a thread inside Ken's mind—the one tied to his greatest fear: being unseen, being worthless, being forgotten.

The next day, Ken arrived at school frantic. Every interaction felt wrong, distorted. Friends' smiles seemed forced. Teachers' voices too sharp. Mika whispered, "Are you okay?"

Ken snapped. "No! None of you even care!"

He shoved a desk, shouting at everyone in a frenzy. Students jumped back. The teacher tried to intervene. The room fell into controlled chaos.

Rei sat silently, notebook open though he didn't write. Observing. Calm. Calculating.

"Subject 1… unstable under isolation. Faster than expected."

That evening, Ken's thoughts unraveled further. He wandered the streets, muttering to himself. Faint shadows followed—slight movements, impossible to catch—but always there, reminding him he wasn't alone. Or maybe he was.

Rei appeared suddenly, calm as ever. "Do you feel lost?" he asked softly.

Ken's face twisted. "What… what do you want from me?"

Rei tilted his head. "Nothing. I'm just… watching."

By morning, Ken didn't show up at school. Rumors spread. Some whispered he had run away, others that something worse had happened. No one knew the truth.

Aiko, standing near the window, observed Rei from across the room. He was unreadable, calm, emotionless, like nothing in the world could touch him. Her brow furrowed.

"This isn't normal…"

That evening, on the school rooftop, Rei stood alone. The sky bled red as the sun sank. The wind ruffled his black hair. He tilted his head slightly, revealing the faint glow in his left eye: black sclera, deep red iris, alive and calculating.

"Subject 1… terminated."

No scream. No blood. Just the subtle destruction of a mind.

He smiled faintly. Quietly.

"Humans are disappointingly fragile."

And with that, the shadows swallowed him again.

Chapter 1 ends — the first kill is done. The first mind is broken. And Rei Kuro, the transfer student with the corrupted eye, has just begun.
