Occasionally, Skylar would recommend several menus of sushi rolls to Sienna as though he were introducing her to a restaurant she had never visited before, and she happily played along each time.
"This one with smoked salmon eggs is also good, Mom."
"Oh? Are you sure?"
"Very sure."
"What if you're secretly trying to steal the best one after I eat it?"
Skylar gasped dramatically. "Mom, I would never do that."
"You wouldn't?"
"I already ate the best one. I always eat the best one first. And I'm not going to keep it a secret. I just tell it after the fact."
Sienna looked at him in disbelief before shaking her head with a smile.
"Oh, big words for such a young boy! Smart! So that's your strategy."
He grinned mischievously. "It worked for me and everyone else."
Before either of them realized how full their stomachs were, most of the dishes on the table had disappeared.
Not long afterward, the waiter returned carrying their desserts.
