Gino was getting impatient. But I stopped him. Now he was pacing back and forth waiting for the girl to come towards us.
Gino was seeing everything clearly now. The shadowman, sucking energy from her. The vengeful spirit was approaching her in slow...
Very slow... Pace.
She's walking... Creepily.
Bloody as hell, pale, and limping.
Every step was making her stumble on the floor, then up again, fell down and back up.
Every crackling bone could even be heard.
My stomach started hurling again. But... I held it in.
And Gino?
Wasn't even fazed at all.
"Don't your stomach hurl at that?" I asked already looking pale.
Gino looked at me like I've said something utterly unbelievable.
"How weak can you be." Gino blurted it out.
I looked at him and then stared.... glared... Frowned.. whatever expression I was making.
"Oh wow. Sorry for being built weak. I'm a coward you know. I'm easily scared. But I can see things I don't want to." I exclaimed.
I wasn't trying to vent. But Gino was the first one alive, I was able to express myself.
He was stunned.
It was the first time I raised my voice like this.
"Didn't mean it that way." Gino's voice softened.
But I was already angry.
"Let's just do this the right way."
I didn't say more.
"Anthony, I can dispell the illusion, the girl's already about to faint." Millien offered, looking towards the shadowman.
Gino looked down and finally saw Millien. The little guy I always mentioned.
"That's sick. That's the guy who's always with you?" Gino crouched staring at Millien.
"Shoo. Keep your distance away from me." Millien turned his back and hopped back on my shoulder.
Gino felt sad about it. He wanted to get close to Millien but the little guy's showing disinterest on him.
"Why? I haven't done anything bad." Gino didn't give up getting close to him.
So, Gino could hear and see them. That's better than expected. My 500 points was worth it.
"You called Anthony weak. He's my companion. Your insult is an insult to me too." Millien declared.
The loyalty effect was really working. And I'm so touched.
Millien was opening his hand.
"What?"
"Cookie."
Wow. He wants a bribe. Fine. I was touched by his declaration he deserved a cookie.
I handed him two. Because I'm feeling generous.
Gino envied our connection. Not in a bad way.
"I want a companion like that." Gino said, poking Millien's cheek.
He didn't even react because he was busy munching on a cookie.
Millien raised his hand and dispelled, the illusion done my the shadowman, when the girl was a few meters towards us.
"Gino, let's grab her immediately and take her to the club room. Ready?"
I crouched, preparing to hold her when she's within my reach.
Gino nodded and also crouched.
"The illusion's gone. Grab her." Millien said.
Gino and I reached for her and scooped her up.
Well... Gino did the lifting and I was just running with them.
We reached the club room and the shadowman was still stuck to the girl.
We settled her to the sofa, and gave her water.
"She's on me. She... Was chasing me..."
The girl looked terribly pale. And trembling..
"Gino, call Sarah here now." I said, discreetly taking out my dagger from the system.
When Gino was busy with the call, I slashes away the essence the shadowman was sucking away.
Cutting him off completely.
"You! How dare you cut off my food!" He was growling.
Gino heard it and looked at me. While the girl has fainted.
"Anthony, where do you get that?" He pointed at my dagger.
"Millien gave it to me. They're my weapon against creatures."
I totally heard Millien sighed but didn't say anything.
Then stabbed the shadowman while it was savoring his meal.
His last meal.
The shadowman shattered and disappeared.
[TASK COMPLETED.]
[GAINED +100 POINTS]
I returned the dagger back to the system, pretending to give it to Millien.
Millien's been observant lately. I know he have a lot of questions regarding the items I got, or the knowledge I have.
But he was patient. Or maybe the loyalty he have for me, keeps him from asking.
I finally was able to finish the task for the shadowman.
Right now, the vengeful spirit just needed one more trouble to make to enter her vicious phase.
I sat in the chair letting out deep breaths. Then Gino grabbed a blanket from on fot he drawers, and covered the girl's body.
Moments later, Sarah arrived and was shocked to see the girl in the sofa.
"What happened?" She asked as she checked in the girl.
"She was chased by the vengeful spirit. Causing her to sprain her ankle. And the shadowman was taking advantage of the situation and sucked her energy." I explained.
Then Sarah looked at Gino, with the glasses.
"What's with the look?" She tilted her head trying to make out what's Gino's style aims for.
"This? This is dope. I can see everything and hear them now. Clearly." Gino looked smug about it.
"What? Let me borrow that."
Without even waiting for a response, Sarah took the glasses away from Gino and used it. S
She blinked, and then the first thing she looked at was my shoulder.
"Oh wow. I can really see clearly with this. Is that the duwende you're always with? The little guy Millien?" She said quite excitedly.
Like someone who finally sees her bias.
I just nodded.
Sarah walked towards me and smiled at Millien.
"Hi little guy. It's nice to see you clearly now." She offered a finger.
Millien looked at her then accepted it. Wrapping his little fingers around her index finger.
Sarah even squealed. To have a contact with an entity physically.
Seems like the glasses were more than just the truthseeker.
But a medium for an ordinary human to connect to the other beings.
Gino on the other hand groaned. Seeing how Millien accepted Sarah's shake hands, while he was treated coldly.
Well... Sometimes, status doesn't matter.
