Chapter 17 - Chapter:16 The Werewolf Secret

The next few days felt strangely tense.

Mei Lin noticed the change even if no one said anything out loud. The office atmosphere had become heavier, like everyone was quietly waiting for something to happen.

But what confused her the most was Liang Zhen.

He had always been a strict boss, cold and distant with everyone. Yet recently his behavior toward her had shifted in small but noticeable ways.

He asked if she had eaten lunch.

He made sure she left the office before it got too late.

And once, when a client spoke rudely to her during a meeting, Liang Zhen shut the man down so sharply that the entire conference room fell silent.

Mei Lin didn't understand it.

Why would the CEO care so much about a simple secretary?

One evening she stayed late at the office to finish some documents. Most of the employees had already left, and the huge glass building felt unusually quiet.

When she finally packed her bag and stepped into the elevator, the clock on the wall showed almost nine at night.

The elevator doors opened on the ground floor.

Mei Lin walked toward the parking area outside the building.

The air was cool and the streets were quieter than usual.

She had just reached the edge of the parking lot when she suddenly heard something.

A low sound.

Almost like a growl.

She froze.

The sound came again.

Her heart started beating faster.

Slowly, she turned her head toward the darker corner of the parking area.

At first she saw nothing.

Then movement.

Something large stepped out of the shadows.

Mei Lin's breath caught in her throat.

A massive black wolf stood there, its eyes glowing faintly in the darkness.

For a moment she couldn't move.

Her mind refused to believe what she was seeing.

Wolves didn't exist in the middle of Shanghai.

And yet the creature stood there clearly, watching her.

Her heart pounded loudly as fear rushed through her body.

She took a small step backward.

The wolf didn't attack.

Instead, it stared at her with strange intensity.

Then something even more unbelievable happened.

The wolf slowly moved behind a parked car, disappearing from her view for a few seconds.

When it stepped out again…

It wasn't a wolf anymore.

Mei Lin's eyes widened.

Standing there was Liang Zhen.

His black shirt was slightly torn at the collar, his breathing heavy as if he had just finished running.

For several seconds neither of them spoke.

Mei Lin's mind struggled to understand what she had just seen.

"That… wolf…" she whispered.

Liang Zhen didn't try to deny it.

He knew she had seen everything.

There was no point hiding the truth anymore.

He took a step closer.

"Mei Lin," he said quietly.

But she immediately stepped back, shock and confusion written all over her face.

"No," she said softly.

Her voice trembled.

"That's impossible."

Liang Zhen's expression remained calm, but his eyes were serious.

"It's not."

The silence between them felt heavy.

Mei Lin shook her head, trying to process the situation.

"You're telling me… that you…"

Her voice faded.

Liang Zhen finished the sentence for her.

"Yes."

He looked directly into her eyes.

"I'm a werewolf."

The words hung in the cold night air.

Mei Lin felt her entire world tilt slightly.

Werewolves were supposed to be myths.

Stories people told to scare children.

But she had just seen the transformation with her own eyes.

It was real.

And the man standing in front of her… her boss…

was not human.

Her heart beat faster, not only from fear but also from the overwhelming realization that her life had just become far more complicated than she ever imagined.

And Liang Zhen knew that this was only the beginning.

Because once the truth was revealed…

Nothing between them would ever be the same again.
