Chapter 9 - Vice Captain: Beast Girl Charlotte

One hundred half-orcs sat on the ground, holding their meal boxes and eating directly with their hands. Although it was just some tasteless artificial food, these half-orcs still devoured it voraciously. Because as slaves, they had basically never eaten their fill in the past—after all, slave traders were never merciful to slaves.

"After dinner, you arrange for them to take a shower and change into new clothes. Then they can board the starship and get familiar with their future workstations." Zachary sat next to Charlotte, holding the same meal.

Charlotte, after all, was once a fleet commander, and compared to other half-orc soldiers, she paid more attention to her demeanor; she still chewed slowly when eating. She looked at the same food in Zachary's hand and was a little surprised: "You eat this too?"

"Otherwise? I'm not afraid to tell you, your captain is very poor right now. My current food storage is only enough for us for half a month at most. As for whether we will have food in the future, it depends on your performance next." Zachary said pitifully from the side.

Charlotte saw that Zachary had no airs, and her attitude toward Zachary improved a lot, but she squinted at him: "Why did you only recruit female half-orcs? Logically speaking, for combat and warfare, everyone would be more inclined toward males.

"I warn you, if you make any rash moves toward them, our previous agreement will be void! I cannot let them sell their dignity and flesh for freedom…"

Zachary waved his hands repeatedly and said helplessly: "Don't worry about this. I won't have any ulterior motives toward them. It's just that for certain reasons, I only recruited female soldiers this time. As for the reason… I'm not convenient to explain right now."

Zachary was also very helpless about this point. Who told the system to have restrictions?

"I can not ask for the reason, but if I find out that you have ill intentions toward them… snort…" Charlotte glared at Zachary.

And don't say it—looking at this white-haired half-orc's warning look, it was a little cute. However, the wounds and scars on her body were indeed a bit of an eyesore.

"Those scars on your body were self-inflicted, right?" Zachary chatted.

Charlotte did not hide it, nodding: "Yes. At that time, my rebel army was framed by a traitor and completely annihilated. Under those circumstances, if I didn't do that, if I was recognized by those people, I would never have appeared here. They would never be so merciful as to sell a rebel general as a slave."

Zachary understood the reason behind it. If Charlotte had been recognized by the enemy, she would definitely not have had a good outcome after being captured. Even if she wasn't recognized, with her original appearance, her fate would definitely not have been much better.

"It's quite surprising that you could recognize me." Charlotte looked at Zachary, a little curious.

Zachary recognized her at first glance before, which directly proved that he had come specifically for her.

"When I was studying at the academy, I researched some of your battles and saw some of your image photos. Actually, when I saw your appearance on the slave list, I wasn't sure yet. After all, the difference between you now and you then is too great… The old you… was like the morning light… It wasn't until I tricked you a bit that I confirmed you were General Charlotte." Zachary said with a smile.

Actually, this was also thanks to the memory of this body, which was a bookworm and loved to browse battle data of various races.

Charlotte rolled her eyes, realizing that she had exposed her own identity.

"Actually, with current medical technology, repairing these wounds and scars on your body is completely possible." Zachary said. He had seen Charlotte's previous image data. That was definitely a beauty, even by human aesthetic standards. In the academy, she could even be considered the campus belle.

"No need. A warrior doesn't care about her skin." Charlotte coldly rejected the proposal.

Seeing Charlotte's determination, Zachary didn't say anything more; he didn't have the conditions for it right now either. After all, that kind of medical repair technology was also very expensive.

After eating, Zachary said: "Let's go to your future workstation first."

He pointed to the steel starship.

Charlotte did not refuse and followed Zachary aboard the Blizzard Zero.

"Is this the starship you assembled?" Charlotte walked along the corridor inside the starship.

Zachary nodded: "That's right. I assembled it using modules from the T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer, T2 Gray Wolf-class Light Star Cruiser, and T2 Devil Crocodile-class Medium Interstellar Battleship. I named it Blizzard Zero."

"I'm not very familiar with these three starships, but judging from the interior of the hull, they are relatively old starships, and many parts are quite outdated. The combat effectiveness of such a starship is not optimistic." Charlotte said bluntly.

"No, no, no. I believe you will soon retract your current thoughts. You will fall in love with this starship." Zachary smiled mysteriously.

Charlotte didn't care. She accepted her fate; no matter what kind of starship this guy had, she had no other choice now. At least this guy, so far, hadn't revealed any disgusting qualities. Although the fact that he only recruited female half-orcs raised considerable suspicion.

Soon, the two arrived at the Bridge of the Blizzard Zero. This was Charlotte's first time, and Zachary's second. The last time was when he came with his younger sister, Wendy.

Charlotte surveyed the Bridge. It was a very conventional layout, with no particular highlights.

"Next, you will be responsible for arranging the positions of those half-orc crew members. I need them to form effective combat power in the shortest possible time." Zachary demanded.

Charlotte looked at Zachary and made a request: "If that's the case, I need to understand some performance modules of this starship…"

Before Charlotte could finish speaking, Zachary handed a handheld terminal to Charlotte.

"I have already registered your information in it. You now have the highest authority over this starship, apart from me. You can access most of this starship's data. From now on, you are the Vice Captain of this starship."

Charlotte looked at Zachary with some surprise. She took the handheld terminal and looked at him suspiciously: "You trust me that much? Aren't you worried I'll betray you?"

Zachary wore a faint smile. In fact, as soon as Charlotte entered this starship, he had used the system skill 'Eye of Insight' on Charlotte. Because Zachary was the captain of this starship, it met the usage conditions for 'Eye of Insight'.

Under the observation of 'Eye of Insight', Charlotte currently had no killing intent or hostility toward Zachary. As for loyalty, it could not be determined. But that was enough. Zachary didn't expect Charlotte to pledge allegiance to him in such a short time; as long as she was willing to work for him, that was enough.

However, Zachary still had to maintain his outward demeanor. He sat in the Captain's chair with a relaxed posture: "I trust the person I chose. My dear Vice Captain, it's time for you to work."
