The next few days in the Breaker camp were calm but busy.
Kai helped repair the walls and draw new runes. His body was still sore from the big fight, but he felt stronger every day.
The nine Echoes inside him stayed quiet. They no longer fought for control. When Kai needed them, they answered calmly.
The small pieces of Nyxar and Veyra were even quieter. They slept like tired animals. Kai could feel them, but they did not speak.
He checked his status every morning.
Status Update
Fractured Echo Weaver Level 7
Active Echoes: 9/10
Overlap Risk: 28 percent Safe
God Fragment Status: Nyxar and Veyra still weakened (9 percent combined)
Note: The fragments are stable for now. Avoid strong new Echoes.
Kai smiled when he saw the numbers dropping.
"Twenty eight percent. That feels good."
Lira trained with him every afternoon. She taught him how to read fate threads and how to calm his mind when the voices tried to wake up.
"You are doing well," she said one day. "The threads around you are clearer now. There is a strong path where you stay yourself."
Kai wiped sweat from his forehead.
"Thanks to you and Mira. If I was alone, I would have lost already."
Mira spent her time making new cards. She had a whole collection now.
"Kai Normal Voice Card. Kai Punch Card. Kai Smile Card. And my favorite 'Group Hug Card!"
She threw the last one during training. A warm light surrounded Kai and Lira for a second. They both laughed.
Mira grinned.
"See? My cards are useful even when there is no fighting!"
In the evenings, they sat together by a small fire.
Kai told stories about his old life as a game tester.
"I sat in a dark room all day testing bad games. The pay was terrible. I never thought I would end up fighting gods."
Mira laughed.
"And now you are the boy who stole from gods! My collection is going to be legendary."
Lira listened quietly, then spoke softly.
"The big Quake is coming soon. When it arrives, many people will awaken and many will die. You will be tempted to collect again. We must be ready."
Kai nodded.
"I know. But I will be careful this time. No more rushing to ten Echoes. I want to stay me."
One quiet afternoon, Kai sat alone near the edge of the camp , he tried something new.He called one of the old Echoes on purpose. The rich snob voice came out smoothly.
"My dear fellow, the view from here is quite dreadful with all these cracks in the sky."
Kai switched to the fighter voice.
"Yeah, but we can still punch the sky if we want!"
Then he brought them back to his normal voice and laughed. "It feels good to choose when they speak."
A small shadow moved near his feet.
Kai looked down. A tiny shadow beast, no bigger than a cat, had appeared. It looked up at him with glowing eyes.
Kai felt the pull , the old temptation to collect.
But he pushed it away. "No," he said gently. "I do not need more Echoes right now." The small beast tilted its head, then disappeared back into the ground.
Kai breathed out slowly.
"I am getting better at saying no."
That night, the camp had a small celebration. They ate simple food and shared stories.
Mira performed with her cards, making lights and sounds that made everyone laugh.
Lira sat close to Kai.
"You have changed. In a good way. You are stronger, but you are still kind."
Kai looked at her.
"I could not have done any of this without you. Thank you for believing in me even when I was the Shadow King."
Lira's cheeks turned a little red.
"We are a team. Always."
Mira suddenly jumped between them.
"Group hug time!"
They laughed and hugged and for a few hours, the camp felt peaceful but peace never lasted long. In the middle of the night, a scout ran into the camp breathing hard.
"Elder! Hunters! A much larger group is coming from the east. They have awakened beasts with them. They will reach us by morning."
Elder Voss stood up quickly.
"Prepare the defenses. Kai, you should stay inside the inner circle. We do not want them to take you."
Kai shook his head.
"No. I will fight with everyone. This is my mess too."
Mira pulled out her cards.
"I am ready! My Kai collection is fully charged."
Lira's silver threads appeared around her.
"We protect what is ours."
Kai looked at the dark forest, he felt the nine Echoes waiting calmly. He also felt the small god fragments sleeping and he smiled with his old sarcastic grin.
"After fighting two gods, a bunch of hunters should be easy, right?". But deep down, he knew the real test was still coming.
The big Quake was getting closer and somewhere out there, the gods were still watching.
