Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Food Lure is not working

"Vegeta, aren't you going to save Gran?"

"An elite Saiyan like him got ambushed by a native and even had his tail cut off. Why would I save such a piece of trash?"

"But..."

"Hmph. One more word out of you, and I'll leave you here too."

Soon, seven or eight small, fiery spaceships lifted off from the ground and vanished into the cosmos.

Left behind on the planet's surface was a young boy. He appeared to be about six years old, with a sturdy, robust build, though he was short and slightly chubby.

However, he was covered in wounds, and the tail behind him had been severed. He was clearly critically injured.

"Hiss...!"

Gran suddenly awoke from unconsciousness, his mind reeling from a flood of new information.

The intense pain in his head caused him to let out a muffled groan before he passed out once more.

Just before losing consciousness completely, a single thought flashed through his mind: I've been reincarnated!

Night fell and day broke, again and again.

During this time, Gran's soul from his past life was steadily consuming the original owner's soul, and a strange transformation was also occurring within his very dimension.

Unaware of this, Gran finally awoke again after three days.

"Ha... Hahaha!!"

"I've been reincarnated!!"

Lying on the ground, Gran had finally sorted through the memories in his mind. He laughed with genuine delight.

Dragon Ball was his favourite anime, and he never imagined he would wake up one day in its world.

He hadn't discovered any special system or cheat ability during his transition, but he had become a Saiyan!

His Saiyan identity, combined with the memories of his past life, was his greatest advantage.

The potential of Saiyan blood was incredibly overpowered. Transforming into a Super Saiyan would boost his power by 50 times.

Transforming into a Super Saiyan 2 would increase it by 100 times.

Although the highest form shown in the anime was Super Saiyan 4 for mortals, who was to say that was the absolute limit for a Saiyan?

Limits are made to be broken, and Gran didn't believe for a second that Super Saiyan 4 was the pinnacle.

Besides, there was also the path to godhood!

With the combination of Saiyan transformations and divine power, the dream of one day overwhelming a God of Destruction and kicking Zeno might not be impossible!

Just as Gran was fantasising about his future moments of glory, he overlooked a very important fact.

"Aaaahhh! It hurts so much!" The searing pain from his injuries snapped Gran out of his daydream.

The current year was Age 737. Planet Vegeta had just been destroyed, and Frieza had spared Vegeta's squad.

Gran was a member of that very squad.

However, during a mission three days ago, he was ambushed by the natives of this planet, and his tail was cut off.

To be a member of Vegeta's squad, Gran was, of course, an elite Saiyan.

But it was precisely because he was an elite that being successfully ambushed and de-tailed by a native was, in Vegeta's eyes, an utter disgrace to the Saiyan race.

Therefore, Vegeta showed no mercy. He destroyed Gran's spaceship, leaving him to die on this planet.

"So painful!"

"Vegeta in the early story is truly ruthless!"

Lying on the ground, Gran's face was pale from the excruciating pain.

He wasn't surprised at all that Vegeta could be so cruel to his own comrades.

In the early arcs of the story, Vegeta was a ruthless villain. For instance, when he and Nappa invaded Earth, Nappa was severely injured by Goku.

When Nappa pleaded for Vegeta's help, Vegeta deemed his weakened partner a liability and killed him with his own hands.

"Damn you, second fiddle! One day, I'll beat you until you're begging for mercy on your knees!"

Gran's expression grew darker.

Besides his severe injuries, he felt an intense hunger gnawing at his stomach.

He had been unconscious for three days without a single drop of water.

In his immobile state, forgetting about getting revenge on Vegeta, he probably wouldn't even last another hour.

The situation was critical. Will I die immediately after being reincarnated?

Gritting his teeth against the pain, Gran began to brainstorm furiously.

The natives of this planet had been completely wiped out, so there was no one left to save him. His ship was destroyed, leaving him stranded.

The Dragon Balls? Senzu Beans? That was even more unrealistic.

"Damn... it!"

Gran could only move his mouth; the rest of his body was paralysed, and blood continued to trickle from his lips.

In this desperate situation, what could he possibly do to survive?

Wait a minute!

It's Age 737, not long after Planet Vegeta's destruction—a spark of insight ignited in Gran's mind.

That's it! If there's one person who can save me now, it has to be him!

"Wh... Whis!" Gran called out weakly toward the sky.

That's right. In this situation, only the Angel of Universe 7 could save him.

According to the Dragon Ball Super storyline, Beerus had ordered King Vegeta to find him the best pillow in the universe.

King Vegeta kept the best one for himself and gave the second-best to Beerus.

This act infuriated the God of Destruction and was one of the reasons he allowed Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta.

Gran also knew that at this time, Beerus despised Saiyans.

But since it was Age 737 and Planet Vegeta had just been destroyed, it meant that Beerus had also just recently entered another long slumber.

Therefore, Gran didn't have to worry about summoning Beerus.

As for whether Whis would hear his call, he probably would.

"Mr... Mr Whis! I have the most delicious food in the entire universe here! Would you like to try some?" Gran shouted feebly.

From what he knew of Whis, the Angel would never pass up an opportunity for such a delicacy.

You have to come, Whis!

......

In a distant galaxy, within a world shaped like an inverted pyramid, an aura of destruction permeated every corner.

Standing by a lake was an elegant man with a tall, slender figure, light blue skin, and long, white, upswept hair.

A divine halo floated around his neck, giving him a bright and sacred appearance.

Beside him hovered a cup, inside which swam a small, loach-like fish. The Angel and the fish both gazed toward a distant palace.

The Oracle Fish leaned against the side of the cup and said with exasperation, "He's barely destroyed a few planets, and Lord Beerus is already asleep again. What a lazy bum!"

As a member of the God of Destruction's realm, the Oracle Fish was well aware of Beerus's power.

Years ago, during Zeno's game of hide-and-seek, the twelve Gods of Destruction fought. It was less of a struggle and more of the other eleven ganging up on Beerus.

The result, however, was Beerus single-handedly defeating all the other Gods of Destruction.

In the end, the only ones who left with their dignity intact were Beerus's own brother, Champa, and that rat, Quitela.

It was that battle that earned Beerus the title of "The Strongest God of Destruction."

Unfortunately, despite his immense power, his laziness had caused his universe to rank second-to-last.

It's so embarrassing! the Oracle Fish thought.

"Ohohoho~"

Whis, holding a long staff in his right hand, chuckled. "If Lord Beerus heard you call him a lazy bum, you'd be finished."

His laugh instantly shattered his divine image, making him seem rather comical.

"No worries, Lord Beerus is asleep. He can't hear me, and how do you know I won't tell him when he wakes up?"

"Whis, you..." The Oracle Fish's eyes widened in alarm. "You wouldn't really tell Lord Beerus, would you?"

Whis covered his mouth, snickering. "Well, that depends on how you behave."

"..."

The Oracle Fish was speechless.

This master-and-servant pair was truly one of a kind. One loved to sleep, and the other loved to eat. To put it bluntly, they were gluttonous and lazy.

In truth, the Angel before it was the more terrifying of the two.

Beerus might be the Strongest God of Destruction, but he couldn't even handle a single casual move from Whis.

This was because Whis was the one who had taught Beerus everything he knew; Whis was, in fact, Beerus's master.

As for Whis's true power, no one knew its full extent.

"Fine! I'll give you all the delicacies I've been saving. But you can't tell Lord Beerus!" the Oracle Fish said, clearly pained by the sacrifice.

Whis licked his lips, his eyes filled with anticipation at the thought of another tasty meal.

Suddenly!

A faint voice reached him: "Wh... Whis!"

As the Angel of a universe, Whis naturally heard his name being called, but he paid it no mind.

He and Beerus had left countless legends throughout Universe 7; it was normal for someone to call out to him. As usual, he would ignore it.

However, the next second...

"Mr... Mr Whis! I have the most delicious food in the entire universe here! Would you like to try some?"

This second sentence made Whis's eyes instantly light up with fervour.

"Whis, what's wrong?"

The Oracle Fish had just retrieved its long-hidden treats from a pocket dimension when it noticed something was off with Whis.

Why does he look so excited?

Wait a minute!

Whenever he makes that face, it means he's found something delicious!

The Oracle Fish immediately understood. Just as it was about to speak, Whis transformed into a streak of rainbow-colored light and shot into the sky.

He left a single sentence behind:

"Me leaving and you insulting Lord Beerus will cancel each other out. Neither of us will say a word to him."

"Damn it! Going off to eat something good without me!" the Oracle Fish grumbled at the sky.

But just after it finished complaining, it abruptly fell into a deep sleep. It was just that sudden.

If Whis hadn't left, he would have been surprised, as this was the state the Oracle Fish entered when it was about to make a prophecy.

.......

Meanwhile, back on the planet.

Gran lay on the ground. Two minutes had passed since his first call, but Whis still hadn't appeared.

"Don't... Don't tell me Whis didn't hear me?"

Gran coughed up another mouthful of blood.

Based on the anime, it took Whis 26 minutes to travel from the God of Destruction's planet to North Kai's planet at normal speed. But at Beerus's insistence, Whis made the trip in just three minutes.

By that logic, with Whis's craving for delicious food, he should have arrived here in under three minutes as well!

As time ticked by, another ten minutes passed, and Gran's life force grew weaker and weaker.

"Damn... it! Am I... Am I going to die? I'm... so unwilling... I haven't even punched Beerus or kicked Ze..."

"Punch Lord Beerus? And kick who?" A voice entered Gran's ears, and his pupils contracted sharply.

Is it him? Lying on the ground, Gran tried to turn his head, but he was completely immobile.

Soon, a figure walked over and came into his line of sight. Light blue skin, white hair, and a staff in hand...It was an Angel!

Looking at his face, it was really Whis! 'Whis actually heard me and came here himself!'

In that moment, Gran forgot all about his pain; his heart filled with ecstatic joy. Whis looked down at the child on the ground, his brow furrowed in concern.

A Saiyan?

That shouldn't be. Weren't the Saiyans wiped out along with Planet Vegeta by Frieza? How is there another one alive?

Could it be that Frieza disobeyed Lord Beerus's orders? Whis shook his head again.

Whether Frieza had disobeyed Lord Beerus or not, it had nothing to do with him.

He was an Angel. His duty was to serve and train the God of Destruction, and he had to remain neutral, never interfering in the affairs of the universe.

So, even if he knew Frieza had gone against Beerus's wishes, Whis would not react.

However...

"You said you were going to punch Lord Beerus and kick who, exactly?" A playful glint flashed in Whis's eyes.

He was fairly certain the little fellow was about to say he would punch Beerus and kick Zeno.

My, my. How dare such a small fry say something like that?

"..."

Gran desperately wanted to say, 'Could you save me first?' but he no longer had the strength to speak.

"Oh, dear. I forgot you're on the brink of death," Whis said, but he made no move to heal Gran.

What?

Panic surged in Gran's heart.

This shouldn't be happening. Whis is here. Given his love for food, why hasn't he saved me yet?

"I don't know how you managed to survive Frieza, nor do I know where you learned of my fondness for fine cuisine."

Holding his staff, Whis seemed to read Gran's thoughts.

He looked down from his superior position and said, "You lured me here with the intention of having me save you, but you've miscalculated."

Why would anyone think an Angel would randomly save a stranger he doesn't know, just for the promise of some food?

Angels are neutral beings. They serve only the Gods of Destruction and do not interfere in the matters of the universe.

Save a strange child? Don't be foolish.

If it were someone he knew, it might be a different story. But he didn't see this child on the ground. Moreover, he was a Saiyan, a race that Lord Beerus detested.

Whis loved delicious food, which was the only reason he had come.

But he would never save this Saiyan, Gran, just for the sake of a meal.

Gran had no idea what Whis was thinking. If he did, he would have surely protested, 'That's not how you acted in Dragon Ball Super!'

'Bulma just mentioned that Earth had good food, and you immediately rushed over to help them with all sorts of things. Why is it that when I say food, you won't even save my life?'

"..."

Hearing Whis's words, Gran's mood plummeted from exhilaration to despair.

He had thought that with Whis's arrival, his life would be saved. Who knew it would turn out like this?

Is fate really determined to kill me?

Gran's life force weakened to a critical point. He slowly closed his eyes, a prelude to death.

Whis looked down at him. The little one was clever to think of a way to lure him here in such a grave condition.

What a pity.

Angels cannot arbitrarily intervene in the universe's affairs. He could not save this child.

Whis was just about to turn and leave.

Boom!

A powerful energy erupted from Gran's body, accompanied by a ripple in the fabric of space-time.

'Hmm? There is something unusual about this little one.' Whis looked down at Gran, his gaze suddenly becoming serious.
