Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Second Mission, Watching TV

Han Fei's brain reacted within a fraction of a second; he had absolutely no spare time to think, and his body moved on its own. Both sides were racing against time. Han Fei arrived at the Fourth Floor first, clutching that large ring of Key and began searching for the Key to the anti-theft door. The sound of footsteps behind him was getting closer and closer. What made him feel even more uneasy was that, besides the footsteps, he could also smell a thick, heavy scent of blood! That's right, that viscous, foul stench was almost enough to suffocate him."Faster! Faster!"The Actor's strict training in muscle and body control helped Han Fei a great deal. Although he was panicking internally at this moment, his hands did not tremble. The moment he found the Key, he inserted it into the lock in one go.Accompanied by the sound of the spring latch clicking, Han Fei pulled open the anti-theft door with force and rushed straight inside. He slammed the Room Door shut and covered his mouth.Separated by a door, he could clearly hear the beast-like panting outside."What the hell is this thing again?"Barely managing to stand straight, Han Fei looked outside through the peephole; the empty hallway was completely devoid of anything."The panting has stopped, but the smell of blood is still there!"Han Fei couldn't possibly open the door at this time. He kept adjusting his angle and finally saw, through the peephole, a small portion of a human face hidden beneath the anti-theft door. That guy from the Sixth Floor hadn't left! He was hiding in the blind spot of the peephole's field of view, guarding Han Fei's door!If the Old Woman from the Third Floor gave Han Fei a feeling of kindness mixed with a hint of eeriness, then this person from the Sixth Floor gave Han Fei a feeling of being deranged, bloody, and cunning."My Neighbors have some serious issues!"Han Fei took a step back and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead: "This guy is guarding the door, I can't get out at all. To exit the game, I must complete a mission. Do I have to do a Newbie Mission inside this room?"Honestly speaking, the seemingly simplest Newbie Mission had already left Han Fei with psychological trauma."Let's just wait out the three hours." Han Fei didn't know how to evaluate his current situation; there was a bloody Murderer blocking his door, and the Haunted House he lived in was haunted at night. "Between a rock and a hard place" couldn't even describe his miserable state."I've been playing for so long, and I'm still level one. Maybe after I level up, the situation will improve."The game was mandatory, and now Han Fei could only comfort himself this way.Staring at the clock on the wall, Han Fei didn't dare to walk into the room. He turned on all the lights and then stood next to the anti-theft door. The smell of blood in the hallway grew stronger and stronger, and occasionally strange sounds would drift over. The Neighbor from the Sixth Floor was very patient, but his way of "saying hello" was a bit too much for Han Fei to handle."When I completed the fuse replacement mission, the system hinted to me—a harmonious neighborhood relationship is the first step to a perfect life, which means this game wants me to establish good relationships with my Neighbors.""If I want to survive, I need to gain the friendship and help of my Neighbors." Smelling the pungent scent of blood in the air, Han Fei made a bitter face: "This really is a healing game. I'm autistic and have social anxiety, and it gave me a treatment plan where I'll die if I don't make friends."Time passed slowly, and in the blink of an eye, it was three o'clock in the morning. The three-hour time limit had passed, and now Han Fei could leave the game if he just completed one more mission. The "hospitable" Neighbor outside the door had not yet left, and Han Fei could not go out for the time being. After thinking it over, he decided to attempt a Newbie Mission."If that ghost chases me again this time, I'll open the anti-theft door. If by chance that Neighbor from the Sixth Floor gets killed by the ghost, then I'll figure out a way to take his Key, live in his house in the future, and live on for him. I can't let him sacrifice himself in vain."That was the ideal scenario, but in reality, it was more likely that Han Fei would be killed by the Neighbor the moment he opened the door.Opening the mission panel, Han Fei hesitated again and again, and finally selected Newbie Mission Two—Watching TV.When doing the sleeping mission, he had already discovered that there was a ghost in the Bathroom. If he chose the bathing task now, wouldn't that just be asking for an intimate encounter with the ghost?"Player No. 0000 has accepted a G-level Newbie Mission—Watching TV!""Mission Introduction: Since moving here, you have lost count of how many times you've had insomnia. Unable to fall asleep, you decide to watch some TV.""Mission Requirements: Please turn off all lights in the house, turn on the TV, and watch any channel for thirty minutes. Within these thirty minutes, do not avert your gaze from the TV screen at will."This Newbie Mission didn't seem difficult just by looking at the introduction, but Han Fei knew that some things couldn't be judged by their appearance.Unable to leave the room, Han Fei could only bite the bullet and proceed. He turned off all the lights in the house and turned on the TV at 3:05 AM.A static, rustling sound came from the old-fashioned box TV. It seemed that due to poor signal, many channels had no image, just black and white snow. The Newbie Mission had begun without him realizing it. Han Fei held the remote in his left hand and the Kitchen Knife in his right, sitting straight on the sofa, his eyes staring directly at the TV screen."It's okay, I just need to hold on for thirty minutes."He kept changing channels, and when Han Fei tuned to channel 44, the TV finally had a picture. The light was very dim, and the image playing on the screen was not very clear. It seemed to be a cartoon, but Han Fei had never seen a similar cartoon before because its art style was truly too eerie."Underworld Theater?"Han Fei leaned forward and tried to turn up the TV volume. At this moment, footsteps suddenly sounded by his ears. The gradually clearer sound did not come from the TV, but was ringing out in the Bedroom.Someone was walking around in the house! The footsteps were getting closer and closer to Han Fei. The other party walked out of the Bedroom and came straight toward him."Is it that ghost?""Will it be holding a knife?"Han Fei didn't dare to move. The footsteps finally disappeared behind the sofa.Watching TV at home at 3:00 AM, in a room without lights, footsteps suddenly sounded, and finally, the sound disappeared behind his back."Did it leave? Or is it standing behind me the whole time?"His Adam's apple trembled slightly. Han Fei forced himself not to turn around, his eyes fixed firmly on the TV.The cartoon on the screen had no sound. The physically incomplete little figure in the cartoon seemed to be avoiding something. It would only pause for a moment before a pair of invisible hands would grab it and drag it backward.Han Fei didn't know what this cartoon was trying to express. When the little figure was grabbed for the third time, Han Fei felt his left shoulder suddenly sink, as if something had rested on him.He did not turn his head, but glanced at his left shoulder with his peripheral vision, vaguely seeing a ghastly white arm.His heart began to beat wildly uncontrollably. Han Fei gritted his teeth, forcing himself to watch the TV, but when he shifted his gaze, he saw an even more terrifying scene.Behind the TV cabinet where the box TV was placed, a pair of legs appeared. There was more than one ghost in this Haunted House. Han Fei's body began to tremble. He really wanted to run over, open the anti-theft door, and invite the Neighbor from the Sixth Floor to watch TV together.
