Thanks to the fact I didn't have my soldier guy out I had no reason to slow down. This meant what would normally be an hour long trip on foot to reach Primm only took about ten minutes. And even then only because the road was all torn up so I tried to not risk flipping the bike.
"That was ..... surprisingly smooth?" the courier said confused.
I patted the bike fondly "Custom suspension and shock absorbers. Anything short of half the tires falling or rising at once will barely be felt even at top speed." I said proudly.
"Might need to look into seeing if I can get me something like this then. Only makes sense right? I am a Courier after all." she said thoughtfully.
"That reminds me but I can't keep calling you "Courier" now can I? You got a name beyond that?" I asked only now realizing I hadn't learned the name of this rather important person, awkward.
"It's Jess, just Jess." she said with a shrug.
"Well then Just Jess, you should head on in if you want to question the locals. I'll wait here." I said chuckling at my little joke.
She rolled her eyes "What are you, five?" she said exasperated.
"Thirty actually. You never grow out of a proper sense of humor though." I said sagely.
"I apologize for my partners behavior. I am sixty three point two percent certain he is in fact a high functioning maniac." Adam chimed up earn a startled look from Jess.
"Rude! I am worth at least seventy percent. " I said with mock offense.
"Are you hiding another guy in that suit or do you just have two personalities?" Jess asked warily.
"I am Adam. You can consider me someone speaking through this suit of armor from far away if it helps." Adam said calmly.
"Right, of course it's the suit that talks. Why am I genuinely not surprised?" she said with a sigh.
"To be fair the wasteland is a weird place." I said with a shrug.
"Fair." she said giving up and heading into the Vikki and Vance casino to get information on Benny.
"Are you going to show her your magic?" Adam asked curiously.
"Haven't decided yet. I mean I might but we'll see." I said honestly.
"What about that last pack token you have?" Adam asked.
"I'll hang on to it for now. Never know when I might need to gamble for a card." I said with a shrug.
"Very well. What about the eyebot you bought previously that has been sitting in your inventory this whole time?" Adam asked moving on.
"Oh shit! That totally slipped my mind! Gotta get an excuse to separate from Jess to whip it out without drawing questions." I said slapping the face of my armor.
"You could have phrased that better." Adam pointed out.
"My, whatever do you mean? Are you implying I would knowingly say something that could be misconstrued as inappropriate? Because that's slander." I said with a grin.
"I believe you have earned that seventy percent." Adam said blandly.
I clenched my fist "Yes! I'm going to put that shit on a T-shirt!" I said with a laugh.
"How though?" Adam asked confused.
"No clue but I'll let you know once I do. Maybe creative use of tye dying?" I said rubbing my armors chin thoughtfully.
Jess didn't take long to get the basically nonexistent information on Benny found in this town and return.
"The guy who shot me sounds like he was planning to stiff the Khans with him. Apparently he left his money at home or something. They headed to Novac next. We'll also need to make a detour along the way." she said as she mounted the bike.
"What for?" I asked curiously.
"Apparently the powder gangers killed the previous sheriff of the town and the deputy doesn't want to step up so the town needs new law enforcement. I decided to get it done so they aren't defenseless. The options were the NCR and some guy in the correctional facility named Meyers." she said with a shrug.
"Just reprogram the robot in the casino, it'll save time." I said lazily.
"Nobody said that was an option." she said with a frown.
"Of course not. They are probably so used to the robot being little more than a walking advertisement that they forgot that it's a protectron, a model of bot literally made for the role. Maybe a bit narrow on the definitions of justice but good enough given the amount of work the other options ask for." I said with a shrug.
Once that was done and we were ready to leave I backed the bike off the parking spot and carefully drove it down the ramp to the road while avoiding the mini minefield the NCR encampment set up. We headed south following the highway and were about to head into Nipton that had smoke rising from it ominously. Jess tapped me on the shoulder since trying to talk over the wind just got sand in her mouth.
"Is that smoke normal? " she asked once I stopped the bike.
"Nope, place was definitely less smoky when I passed by a couple days ago. You think something might have happened?" I asked despite know what was going on.
"I don't know but I've got a bad feeling about it." she said seriously.
"If you want I'll go first since my armor makes me basically unstoppable. Fair warning though if I see anyone wearing sports equipment and red i'm shooting first and asking questions never." I said seriously.
"Something wrong with that oddly specific combination of things?" she asked confused.
"Fuck yeah, Caesar's legion. More commonly just called the legion is BAD news. Famously not very fond of advanced technology or anyone who uses it. In other words DEFINITELY not friends of mine. Really it just saves time to kill them on sight." I said seriously.
"Maybe I should go first then, try and talk us out of a fight." she said shifting uncomfortably.
I shrugged "They might talk, or they might strip you down and rape you in the dirt. Then again you could get "lucky" and get crucified instead. At least then I could rescue you without trouble. If you think the words "reason" and "legion" go together then I'm afraid you are in for quite the disappointment." I said flatly.
