Chapter 1 - From Laughed-At Trash to Destiny’s Worst Nightmare

Kai Ren died like a background character in someone else's story.

It was a rainy Tuesday night in Seoul. Twenty-three years old, broke, exhausted, and scrolling through another empty motivational quote on his cracked phone while crossing the street. "The universe rewards the bold," it said. Kai snorted. The universe had spent years kicking his ass—dead parents, dead-end jobs, relationships that always ended with "it's not you, it's me."

Headlights blinded him. Brakes screamed too late. One second of crushing pain, then blessed darkness.

Finally, he thought. Peace.

But the universe wasn't done with its joke.

A freezing torrent of energy slammed into his soul. Foreign memories crashed over him like a tidal wave: the Eternal Realm, a brutal fantasy world ruled by Classes, Bloodlines, and dungeons that vomited monsters every full moon. He was now Ren Kai — the pitiful adopted son of the once-powerful Ren Clan. Taken in out of pity after his real parents died defending the clan. Raised more like a servant than a son. Engaged since childhood to Lady Elara Voss, the genius elven princess whose bloodline was prophesied to save the continent.

Everyone had called him trash for years.

And today, the world would make it official.

Kai opened his eyes.

He stood in the heart of Valoria Academy's Awakening Plaza — a vast circular arena of pristine white marble gleaming under three blazing suns. Golden banners snapped in the wind. Hundreds of eighteen- and nineteen-year-olds in luxurious academy uniforms stood in perfect formation, their silk robes embroidered with proud family crests, enchanted weapons at their sides, and jewels that could feed a village for a year.

Every eye turned toward him.

A deep, magically amplified voice rolled across the plaza like thunder:

"Students! Today is your Class Awakening Ceremony! Your Destined Bloodline will decide whether you rise as legends… or become fodder for the dungeons!"

Kai's new body felt weak and unremarkable — thin arms, average height, messy black hair falling over his forehead. Just another forgettable face.

"Ren Kai!" the silver-haired instructor barked, pointing with open disdain. "You're next. Try not to waste everyone's time."

Kai walked forward. His footsteps echoed loudly in the sudden silence. Whispers followed him like venomous insects.

"There's the Ren Clan's charity case." "Still engaged to Lady Elara? Pathetic." "I bet he gets Null. Again."

He stopped before the massive floating crystal orb that pulsed with shifting rainbow light. Kai placed his palm on its cool surface.

The orb flashed once… twice… then faded into a dull, lifeless gray.

[Bloodline Analysis: Complete.] [Destined Class: NULL] [Affinity: None.] [Talent: None.] [Future Value: None.]

The mechanical voice boomed across the entire plaza for everyone to hear.

For one heartbeat, silence.

Then the laughter erupted like a breaking dam.

"NULL! He got NULL again!" "Hahahaha! Even the crystal knows he's worthless!" "Trash! Absolute fucking trash!"

Rotten fruit and small stones rained down on him. An apple core struck him in the chest. A tall blonde noble in shining golden armor doubled over laughing. "Hey, Null! Need a broom? We'll make you the academy's official janitor!"

Kai stood perfectly still, letting every insult wash over him. His face remained calm, almost bored. But deep inside, something ancient and dangerous stirred.

Keep laughing, he thought coldly. Every single laugh is fuel.

His so-called fiancée stepped forward like a goddess descending from on high. Lady Elara Voss — tall, elegant, with silver hair that cascaded like moonlight and pointed elven ears adorned with sapphire earrings. Her emerald eyes burned with pure contempt.

"Our engagement ends here," she declared, her voice cold and clear. A glowing golden contract materialized in her hand, the same one their families had signed when they were children. "I, Elara Voss, daughter of the Eternal Forest, dissolve this engagement. No noble of worth will chain her destiny to garbage."

She snapped her fingers. The contract burst into golden flames and dissolved into sparkling ash that scattered in the wind. The crowd cheered wildly, clapping as if she had just slain a dragon.

Kai slowly lifted his head. His dark eyes met hers without flinching. A small, dangerously charming smile curved his lips — the kind that didn't belong on a "null."

"Wow," he said, his voice smooth and carrying much farther than his weak body should allow. "No tears? No dramatic speech about how I was never worthy? You're really phoning it in today, princess."

Gasps rippled through the crowd. How dare the trash talk back?

Elara's perfect cheeks flushed with anger. "You dare mock me, you worthless—"

Kai cut her off with a soft, confident chuckle that somehow silenced half the plaza.

"You people are pathetic," he said, turning slowly to address the entire crowd. "You've trained your whole lives, praying, sacrificing, licking your ancestors' boots just so your precious Bloodline would give you something shiny. Warriors, Mages, Saints, Assassins…" He spread his arms. "And here I am — the guy who died yesterday — getting handed something far better than your little Classes."

He tapped his temple. "I got the keys to the entire game."

The blonde noble sneered. "Big words for a Null! Let's see you back them up!"

Kai's smirk widened, his eyes gleaming with quiet menace. "Give me thirty days. Just thirty. And every single one of you who laughed today will kneel. Not because I'll force you…" He looked straight at Elara, his voice dropping to a velvet whisper that still carried. "But because you'll want to. The world itself is going to make you regret throwing me away."

Dead silence.

Then the laughter returned — louder, meaner, but now it sounded forced. Nervous.

A few girls in the back rows stared at him with wide eyes and flushed cheeks: a fiery red-haired warrior beauty, a quiet bookish girl with glasses hiding mysterious power, and a graceful elven attendant. Something in his unshakable confidence had struck a chord.

The instructor had finally had enough. "Security! Remove this delusional failure from academy grounds! The Ren Clan has already made it clear he is no longer part of them."

Two armored guards seized Kai's arms and began dragging him toward the massive golden gates.

Kai didn't resist. He walked with them, head held high, that same infuriating smirk on his face. As they passed Elara, he leaned in just enough for only her to hear:

"See you soon, future wife number one. Try not to miss me too much when the nightmares start."

Her eyes widened — rage, confusion, and the tiniest flicker of intrigue flashing across her face.

The guards shoved him through the gates. The heavy doors slammed shut behind him with a final, echoing boom.

Kai stood alone on the wide stone road leading down from the academy hill. The three suns warmed his skin. For the first time since arriving in this world, he felt truly alive.

Then the voice spoke directly into his mind — smooth, playful, and dripping with power.

A warm, intoxicating surge of power exploded through his veins. His muscles tightened. His senses sharpened. Threads of glowing purple fate energy became visible, floating around people like puppet strings. Even from here, he could see Elara's thread pulsing with anger… and the faintest hint of reluctant curiosity.

Kai threw his head back and laughed — a rich, genuine, slightly unhinged sound that echoed down the empty road.

"System," he said out loud, grinning like a madman. "You beautiful, magnificent bastard. You really waited until they kicked me out to show up? Dramatic timing. I like it."

[Glad you approve, Host. Ready to rewrite destiny?] the system replied, sounding suspiciously amused.

Kai started walking down the hill toward the bustling city below. His black academy robe fluttered behind him. Every step felt lighter. Stronger.

He already had plans.

First: Find a quiet place to test his new Shadow Sovereign powers. Second: Locate the three girls who had looked at him with something other than disgust back in the plaza. Their bloodlines had felt… interesting. Third: Make the entire continent regret the day they called him trash.

As he descended, distant laughter from the academy still drifted on the wind. But Kai knew the truth.

The laughing would stop soon.

And when the first World Announcement shook the sky because of him?

They would remember the name Kai Ren forever.

He whispered to the empty road, eyes glowing faintly purple:

"Let the game begin."
