Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Breathing Draconic Magic

'Ah, this Character Card is a bit of a waste.' Anser couldn't help but complain.

In games, there's no threshold to becoming a professional. In reality, one can't be a Wizard without Intelligence, and one can't be a Sorcerer without sufficient talent.

The two subclasses that lit up were Draconic Bloodline and Wild Magic.

Draconic Bloodline: "Breathing Draconic Magic".

Wild Magic: "Releasing the chaotic magic beneath the order of creation".

The former was because he possessed Silver Dragon blood, while the latter was due to the collapse of the Weave, the rampaging of raw magic, and the expansion of Wild Magic zones. This accidental and incidental convergence of factors gave ordinary people a sliver of a chance to master Wild Magic.

Chaotic magic is full of uncertainty; every Spellcasting could produce a random magical effect, such as turning oneself into a potted plant or summoning a demon.

The entertainment value was maxed out, but it could actually kill someone. Anser didn't dare to gamble.

A Draconic Sorcerer has no major weaknesses; they have strong Survival capabilities, can fly, and possess Spell-like Abilities.

Likely due to the influence of his bloodline, this subclass has high Spellcasting stability. Furthermore, it's spontaneous Spellcasting, different from a Wizard's, so there's no need to worry about being unable to cast a Spell.

'I'll choose you then.'

After confirming the subclass, the Character Card actually popped up an option to choose a Draconic Ancestry.

'Eh, what does this mean? Don't I already have Silver Dragon blood?' Anser was very surprised.

Draconic Ancestries are divided into three main categories: Chromatic Dragons, Metallic Dragons, and Gem Dragons.

Chromatic Dragons belong to the evil alignment, primarily consisting of Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White Dragons.

Metallic Dragons are generally of the lawful good alignment, primarily consisting of Gold, Silver, Brass, Bronze, and Copper Dragons.

Gem Dragons are mostly of the neutral alignment, including Amethyst, Crystal, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz Dragons.

Each Draconic Ancestry comes with a first-level spell, and their attributes differ. Gold and Red Dragons are fire, Silver and White Dragons are cold, Bronze and Blue Dragons are lightning... 'The original owner has Silver Dragon blood. If I choose Gold Dragon, can I activate both bloodlines at once?' Anser's eyes lit up.

Metallic Dragons are good dragons and have an excellent reputation on the continent of Faerûn. Choosing this would make it easier to mingle in the human world.

Moreover, the Gold Dragon is the strongest Metallic Dragon, with a high challenge rating, capable of easily thrashing the strongest Chromatic Dragon—the Red Dragon.

The bonus Draconic Spell, Disguise Self, was also very useful. If he accidentally fell into the Underdark, he could disguise himself as a Goblin or a Gray Dwarf to survive.

Anser confirmed with his mind, and the Draconic Bloodline subclass immediately lit up.

'It actually works. It seems the bloodline is just the trigger for obtaining the Draconic Bloodline subclass. The essence of a Sorcerer is an arcane Spellcaster, and the class's ceiling isn't limited by the bloodline.'

With no time to waste, he immediately selected professional skills and Spells with the goal of escaping the giant pit.

He chose Noble for his background because it added to his charisma attribute.

For his racial Feat, he chose Tough to increase his health; Survival was the priority.

"Mana Casting!"

"Creating character..."

Before Anser could react, a vast amount of knowledge and magic surged out from the dice like a storm. His brain throbbed with pain, his body trembled, and his skin glowed with a faint gold and silver light.

He quickly lay flat on the ground to prevent himself from falling off the stone platform.

This decision was absolutely correct; he lost control of his body the moment he lay down.

At this moment, his flesh seemed to have a life of its own, every cell cheering in joy. Vast magic surged and flowed within his body, and tiny soft scales appeared on his skin—nearly the color of his flesh, yet shimmering with a silver-gold glint.

Anser had no time to focus on that; he was receiving the knowledge and skills being funneled into him.

The feeling was novel, not as laborious as learning; it felt as if... he already knew it and had just remembered.

'Memories and inheritance from the bloodline, quite logical, isn't it!'

---

After an unknown amount of time, Anser slowly woke up.

'How did I fall asleep?'

He looked around; the sky was growing darker, and the distant battle was no longer intense, but he knew this was not a good sign.

The humans had been defeated and were retreating.

Sitting up, he felt his body was light and agile, brimming with vitality.

The swelling in his calf had subsided, and the small scars on his body had almost disappeared, not hindering his movement at all.

He lightly touched the skin on his arm; the soft scales were Tough and elastic, and his sense of touch was keen. They had a faint metallic luster, clearly different from an ordinary person's.

'These dragon scales are nice.' After the fusion of Gold and Silver Dragon bloodlines, the color was actually quite low-key.

Anser called up his status panel; his health had reached 11/12 points, including 6 base Sorcerer health, 1 from his constitution modifier, 2 from the Tough Feat, and 3 from Dragon Kin Physique.

In addition, his Armor Class had reached 14, his mana was 4, he had 6 Cantrips, 6 first-level spells, and he had mastered a bunch of skills like Acrobatics, Athletics, and Survival.

'A pity the mana is a bit low; I can only cast four first-level spells at most.'

There are two most common Spellcasting systems on the continent of Faerûn: the mainstream spell slot casting, and Mana Casting.

The spell slot system relies on the Weave and is more stable, safer, and has a lower difficulty for casting, making it the choice for most Spellcasters.

But now that the Weave was in disarray, as a Sorcerer, it was better to use innate mana for casting.

'I need to use it sparingly; I still don't know what the situation is like up there.' Anser stood up and carefully scouted the surroundings.

The humidity around was heavy, and his ears were filled with the rumbling sound of water. The waterfall overhead seemed closer, constantly eroding the pillar-like high slope beneath his feet. From time to time, earth and stone rolled down; a collapse was only a matter of time.

'I can't wait any longer.'

He felt his chest and pulled out a palm-sized cylindrical crystal from his robe. It was crystal clear and firmly hung around his neck by a metal chain.

'Good, good.'

This was his Arcane Focus, cheap but capable of assisting in guiding mana.

Most importantly, possessing it allowed him to bypass certain Spell components.

Like the Jump Spell, it required not only an incantation and gestures but also a grasshopper's hind leg. Without a focus, where would he go to find a grasshopper?

He tucked the focus back into his clothes, placing it close to his body. Then, after briefly warming up his limbs, he quietly climbed out from the shelter of the roof along a relatively gentle side, looking up to observe the situation above, much like a chicken thief.
