Chapter 1 - Prologue.

Alone, a young man sat in his new study. The lights of every other room had already gone out. The house had been redecorated. White and brown was his choice. A fresh start was what he needed. Memories haunted him. But he knew they'd never go away.

The room was a mess: shattered glass, papers, pens, and books were scattered all around. The desk he was slumbered on was leading a consistent trickle of wine that the laminated floor collected in a growing puddle, but suddenly, the brown double doors creaked open slightly, and slowly a maid stepped forth from the dark.

She scanned the room before staring at the young man for a brief moment. It isn't his fault Tracy, It isn't his fault, she thought, before beginning to clean up the mess he had made.

It didn't take long her long to do so as she was used to the chore by now, but when she was done, she walked over to the window to look at the beautiful view that the countryside offered, something that she did every night to relax her mind before she took herself off to bed.

The house was stood on a slight hill, you could see dense forests on the right and left, beautiful hills and open fields were clear to the eye in the centre, and the moon shone bright with stars hovering alongside. Madam Tracy, as she was known, thought about nothing in the moments that she was able to stare out and take in the natural wonders of life, but then she felt him. Body to body. His hands wrapped around her waist and lay softly on her stomach. Her body tightened slightly at the unexpected contact, the young man had moved as quiet as a mouse.

Moving her hands down carefully, she slowly broke his grip and turned to face him front on. He was a handsome man, small hazel eyes, well defined facial features, black curly locks that hung about his shoulders, and his skin was mostly clear.

"When will you see that you aren't well, Mr. Ward Junior?" Madam Tracy whispered softly.

She waited.

Expecting something.

Anything.

But no reply.

For a few moments they stood looking at each other in this fashion. The young man was so unpredictable that Madam Tracy never knew what to expect from him. Everybody had heard of him. Unstable, but smart. Everybody had heard rumours. But nobody really knew him.

Madam Tracy was the first to break the eye contact and her swift retreat left Mr. Ward Junior alone again. After he had watched her walk away, he downed a glass of wine that had been on his desk since earlier that day, and then he walked over to the double doors and out to the grand entrance hall before retreating to his private bathtub. He quickly ran the water, undressed, and slipped in. The silence was something he longed for. Alone he felt comfortable. Alone he knew he didn't have to hide.
