Chapter 96 - Saturday Dinner

Riven chose the restaurant.

This was either very considered or a test — a place in the city that was good without being performative, the kind of room that said I paid attention to what would work rather than I wanted to impress you. Small tables. Good light. The specific quality of somewhere that understood the difference between atmosphere and noise.

Seren had been there once.

Caelan had found it six months ago and filed it under useful.

Of course he had.

They arrived before Riven and Adrian.

Seren sat across from Caelan at the table for four and looked at the two empty chairs and thought about the specific improbability of sitting here waiting for his brother and Caelan's cousin to arrive together.

"Stop thinking so loudly," Caelan said.

"I'm not saying anything."

"You don't have to."

Seren looked at the menu.

He was not reading it.
