His first stream ended with 30 viewers after fifteen minutes. Jaeyi wanted to continue, but he decided to stop when he actually did not know what to do.
Jaeyi planned to watch a few other people's streams to get an idea. After all, he did not think that this stream would yield any results.
The cat did not stop him either. It only yawned before it jumped to the ground and went to bed to sleep. Jaeyi followed it with his eyes, but as the other did not complain that he was wasting his time with this idea, the stream seemed not as useless as he thought.
He spent the whole day like that, and when night came, Jaeyi almost cried when he could finally sleep earlier than he used to.
This was not an exaggeration when he barely had four or five hours for months now.
Entering the office, Jaeyi braced himself for some nagging, but he found out that the team leader was not around. Everyone seemed okay with his absence the previous day.
Jaeyi continued with his work at his pace. This day was not different from his usual. If not for the black cat with horns that was waiting for him in front of the door, then he would truly think so.
Everything truly did happen... He had become a Demon Lord's heir.
He did not immediately start the stream but ate his dinner first.
"What is this?"
He nearly forgot this cat earlier, as it was still asleep when he left. Jaeyi also did not know what it was supposed to eat, but he bought cat food just in case.
"Cat food."
Virel glared at Jaeyi. "You want me to eat food meant for cats? Do you intend to insult me so much, heir?"
Jaeyi sighed. "Then what do you want to eat? You don't want human food."
Virel paused. Its gaze shifted to the cat bowl and then to the table. Slowly, it made a decision.
It jumped on the table and pointed.
"Give me a plate. I shall eat what you have for now."
Jaeyi's lips twitched. In the end, the two of them finished the simple meal. He ignored the constant complaints from the cat and continued without responding.
After everything was done, Jaeyi went to his room and opened his home computer.
"What are you going to do this time, heir?"
"Communicate with viewers? I watch how new VTubers do it. They introduced the character."
Jaeyi still did not know how he would do it. He did not want to prepare the script either. He preferred it to be a smooth interaction between him, the demon lord, and the viewers, potential cult followers... ahem, fans.
The cat hummed. "You can ask me. I'll help you."
Jaeyi could not help but look at it. Seeing the suspicion in his eyes, the cat rolled its eyes.
"I am the great companion of the Demon Lord. Naturally, you are now my new master, heir."
Although it was hard to believe from its tone alone, Jaeyi also thought it made sense.
Jaeyi simply nodded to indicate he understood.
He continued setting up his stream.
"Last night, did you feel the effect of the stream?"
Jaeyi forgot to ask last night. He was unable to tell if his stream had an effect; he could only ask the cat, who was more knowledgeable about this.
In fact, Jaeyi could not really feel a difference in himself after being the so-called Demon Lord.
Of course, it might not be much considering his stream was too short.
The cat, who was grooming itself, paused and looked at him. It seemed to think about and chose to be honest.
"It's effective. The influence will be slow."
Jaeyi sighed in relief at that. As he said, it was fine even if it was slow as long as it was effective. He could see that the cat was not as urgent, and so the enemies might be too far from this world.
He clicked on the Streamix site and logged in.
When he looked at his profile, Jaeyi saw his follower count was now 5. he only nodded at that and did not fuss over it.
With a deep breath, he went on live.
This time, he chose a simple study setup where the Demon Lord avatar was sitting, with his legs crossed, in a red office chair. Since Jaeyi was not verified and uncontracted, there were few assets available to him.
The background was much better than the last stream.
Jaeyi looked at the viewer count; he was anticipating viewers this time. Sure enough, the notifications started at the side, and the viewer count quickly increased to 3.
He assumed they were his followers who got the notification. Before he greets and speaks, comments pop up.
genubaby: AHHH! LET ME LICK YOUU SOOO HANDSOME!
Jaeyi's lips twitched. The avatar's expression followed, frowning faintly.
lckmyas: simp simp simp
fluffycloud: when did I follow you? I genuinely can't remember
genubaby: aww did I displease you, my lord????
Jaeyi ignored them for now and decided to greet them. This time, with a more in-line to his current identity.
"Hm... Quite a few lost souls have wandered here again. And... 'Genu baby,' was it? Your comment is a bit presumptuous."
Jaeyi held clasped hands tightly, feeling anxious, but he continued. He had to put on the role! He was not Jaeyi now, but the Great Demon Lord.
Of course, he was still awkward at his delivery. But it improved from last night.
genubaby: whaaattt im ded
fluffycloud: say my name too!!! atp I don't care how I followed you
Jaeyi ignored their nonsense and looked at the viewer count, which silently reached 15. He blinked and focused on it.
Wow, barely two minutes and there was already this much. For those big VTubers, this might be negligible, but for him, it was somewhat surprising.
Suddenly, he became pressured again. He could only distract himself by playing with his fingers.
Was it wrong not to prepare a script?
trollurlife: why are you a demon lord? It's too simple
haremseeker: if you're a demon lord, are we cult followers??? hahahaha
Jaeyi's brow arched up slightly, his eyes focusing on that comment and the account. One could see the person's personality in their account name sometimes.
This one must be here just to troll. The one comment before it had a decent question despite having a troll in their name.
Jaeyi focused his attention on the comment. Unbeknownst to him, the demon lord avatar also arched its brows and looked down as if looking at one particular ant in the stream.
"Haremseeker, this name... You don't seem worthy of following me. However, since you mentioned it first. I will permit it." Jaeyi just spouted bullshit. "From this moment onward, be my first follower in this world. Do not resist what you have already chosen."
He did not really take it seriously. He was just in character, and also, was this how he really wanted to expand cult followers in the guise of portraying a character?
As for the person behind the haremseeker account, Jaeyi doubts he would also take it seriously.
Just as he was about to move on and respond to other comments... "Haremseeker" commented again.
haremseeker: Understood, my lord.
