Chapter 21 - CHAPTER 20 — CRACKING THE MODEL

The room was still there.

The walls did not crumble.

The ceiling did not crack.

The lights still glowed with the same sterile white radiance.

However, the existence of the space itself… began to feel like something that had to be "maintained."

It wasn't standing naturally anymore.

Instead, it felt as if it were being held together by something greater than mere physics, preventing it from collapsing.

Lin Xuan stood in the center of the room.

His body was still.

But his mind was not.

He could feel the difference now with startling clarity—

between his body, which remained here…

and his consciousness, which felt as if it no longer occupied the same "layer."

The phone in his hand stayed lit.

📡 CORRECTION PROGRESS: 42%

The number did not change.

It did not move.

It was as if time had frozen for that specific segment.

Lin Xuan stared at the number for a long time.

Longer than before.

Not with confusion.

Not with fear.

But with observation.

"…It's not because they're finished," he said softly.

"…It's because they don't know how to proceed."

Long Yuer, standing a few paces in front of him, lifted her gaze slightly.

Her expression remained unchanged.

But there was something different in her eyes—

something more serious than before.

"…Yes," she replied.

"…You've caused them to lose their primary prediction path."

Lin Xuan exhaled slowly.

"…They've always had an answer until now."

"…Now… they don't."

Silence.

For the first time—

something that had always felt absolute…

began to show a crack.

The phone vibrated.

But not like before.

Not fast.

Not violent.

Instead, it was slow.

Like something massive moving with extreme caution.

📡 MODEL RE-EVALUATION IN PROGRESS

Lin Xuan read it slowly.

"…They're trying again," he said.

"…Not to fix… but to understand anew."

Long Yuer nodded.

"…Usually, that isn't necessary."

"…Because all nodes are the same?"

"…Because all nodes can be fitted into a single model."

Lin Xuan smiled faintly.

"…Which means I've fallen outside of that definition."

Silence.

Long Yuer did not deny it.

The air in the room shifted again.

But it wasn't like the pressure from before.

Now—

it felt unstable.

As if the space itself were shifting slightly every few seconds.

Invisible to the eye.

But felt.

Lin Xuan raised his hand slowly.

He opened his palm.

Closed it.

Opened it again.

And for a split second—

the movement was not entirely synchronized with the space around him.

"…It's clearer now," he muttered.

Long Yuer nodded.

"…Because the system is beginning to fail in maintaining local synchronization."

"…Because of me?"

"…Because you can no longer be mapped within their structure."

Silence.

Lin Xuan stared at the wall beside him.

He tried to touch it.

And for a fraction of a second—

the sensation of touch… was delayed.

He pulled his hand back.

"…It's not just me…"

"…Yes," Long Yuer answered.

"…The environment around you is being affected."

"…Because I don't fit the system?"

"…Because the system can no longer force you."

The phone changed again.

📡 ERROR: LOCAL REALITY ALIGNMENT UNSTABLE

Lin Xuan read it slowly.

"…So now… even this room cannot be maintained perfectly."

Long Yuer looked around.

"…This is the effect of the anomaly."

"…The anomaly?"

"…You."

Silence.

The word wasn't spoken with insult.

Nor with fear.

But with absolute clarity.

Suddenly—

that voice appeared again.

"SUBJECT LIN XUAN."

But this time—

it was unstable.

There was a lag.

There was interference.

Lin Xuan immediately tensed up.

"…This is different…"

Long Yuer stared straight ahead.

"…Because they no longer have a definitive response."

The voice emerged again.

"DEVIATION… UNRESOLVED…"

The last word sounded strained.

For the first time—

the thing that existed above the system… sounded imperfect.

The phone vibrated more violently.

📡 FORCED CORRECTION INITIATED

Lin Xuan stared at the screen.

"…They aren't stopping…"

Long Yuer stepped closer.

"…They won't stop."

"…Why?"

"…Because now, you aren't just a minor error."

"…You are a threat to their entire structure."

Silence.

The pressure returned.

But this time—

it wasn't subtle.

It was coarse.

Like something trying to force its way in without adjusting its shape.

Lin Xuan immediately gripped his head.

"…This is different…" he said.

"…It's… more aggressive…"

Long Yuer raised her hand.

A thin energy spread out.

But this time—

it was stronger.

More stable.

"…Focus," she said firmly.

"…Do not follow any pattern."

The phone changed again.

📡 COGNITIVE OVERRIDE: 23%

Lin Xuan saw the number.

"…They're trying to overwrite me…"

Long Yuer nodded.

"…This isn't synchronization anymore."

"…This is a direct replacement."

Silence.

Patterns emerged again.

But this time—

they were imperfect.

Cracked.

Unstable.

Lin Xuan furrowed his brow.

"…This is wrong…"

"…What do you mean?" Long Yuer asked.

"…It's not like before…"

"…It's like they aren't sure…"

Long Yuer looked at the screen.

"…Because they are forcing something they cannot model."

The pressure intensified.

But something strange happened.

The more they forced—

the more Lin Xuan felt… disconnected.

As if he were starting to "detach" from the system.

"…Wait…" he murmured.

Long Yuer looked at him.

"…What?"

"…It's not touching me completely anymore…"

Silence.

And in that moment—

Lin Xuan stopped using the old ways.

He didn't fight.

He didn't resist.

He simply… stopped following the concept of "structure."

"…If they need a pattern…" he whispered.

"…I'll simply have no pattern at all."

For a split second—

everything stopped.

The pressure.

The patterns.

The synchronization.

Like a hunter losing its target.

The phone flickered.

📡 ERROR: TARGET STRUCTURE NOT FOUND

Long Yuer immediately looked at the screen.

"…Impossible…"

She rarely looked like that.

"…This is outside their system…"

Lin Xuan looked at the screen calmly.

"…They can only read something that has a form."

"…I just stopped giving them that form."

Silence.

The voice appeared again.

But this time—

it was broken.

"SUBJECT… INVALID… UNDEFINED…"

For the first time—

they failed to define him.

The phone changed again.

📡 SYSTEM RESPONSE FAILURE DETECTED

And in that moment—

the room truly began to change.

The lights flickered for longer intervals.

Shadows were no longer in sync.

Lin Xuan looked at his hands.

For a split second—

his position was inconsistent.

As if he were in two places at once.

He looked at the floor.

His shadow was slightly late in following him.

"…This is starting to affect the world…" he said quietly.

Long Yuer looked around.

"…Because you have stepped out of their model."

The phone changed again.

📡 GLOBAL SYSTEM ALERT: ANOMALY DETECTED

Lin Xuan read it.

"…It's not just local anymore…"

"…The entire system knows…"

Long Yuer nodded.

"…And that means…"

"…What?"

"…The next step will be far more extreme."

Silence.

The pressure ceased.

But not because the system was finished.

Rather…

because they were preparing for something much larger.

The phone changed one last time.

📡 CORRECTION FAILURE: CRITICAL

Lin Xuan stared at the screen for a long time.

"…They failed."

Long Yuer looked at him.

"…Yes."

"…So, now what?"

A few seconds of silence.

Long Yuer answered slowly.

"…Now, they stop trying to fix you."

Lin Xuan looked at her.

"…And they start?"

Long Yuer spoke without hesitation.

"…To delete."

Silence.

And for the first time—

Lin Xuan realized that the next phase…

wasn't about surviving.

It was about…

remaining in existence.

Outside the room—

the world continued to turn.

But inside—

something that could not be modeled…

had emerged.

And the system—

had no way to deal with it without destroying something first.
