Chapter 1 - The Man Who Didn’t Stop

They didn't speak his name out loud.

Not because it was unknown—but because it carried weight. The kind of weight that made people lower their voices without realizing it.

Darian Korr.

A man who existed in the spaces between fear and silence. Wherever he went, conversations slowed. People stepped aside. Not because he demanded it—but because something in him made hesitation feel like survival.

He had no need for attention. No desire for connection. No tolerance for noise.

His life was built on control. Clean distance. Predictable emptiness.

That was how he stayed untouched.

At least… that's what he believed.

That afternoon, the city was too normal.

Too bright.

Too loud in ways that meant nothing.

Darian stepped out of his black vehicle, adjusting his coat slightly. His eyes scanned automatically—movement patterns, exits, blind spots. Not because he expected trouble.

Because he never stopped expecting it.

That's when—

a voice interrupted the structure of his thoughts.

"Hey… you're really scary, you know?"

He stopped.

Not because he was surprised.

Because nothing ever addressed him so casually.

Slowly, his gaze lowered.

A small girl stood near the roadside railing. Barely old enough to understand distance or danger. Her legs swung as she sat like she owned the place. Dust on her shoes. Hair slightly messy. Eyes too awake for someone so small.

She tilted her head at him.

"You're really, really scary."

There was no fear in her voice.

Only observation.

Darian stared at her for a moment.

"…Where are your parents?"

The girl blinked.

"My mom told me to wait here," she said casually. "She went somewhere a long time ago. She didn't come back yet."

A pause.

Then she added:

"My dad doesn't live with us. He doesn't love my mom anymore. So we don't live together."

No emotion.

Just facts, as she understood them.

Darian's expression didn't change, but something subtle shifted in his attention.

"…You're alone."

The girl shook her head immediately.

"I'm not alone."

She pointed at him.

"You're here."

That answer should have meant nothing.

It didn't.

Darian exhaled slowly, as if adjusting something internal.

He crouched slightly in front of her, lowering himself to her level.

"What's your name?"

Her face lit up instantly.

"Oh! I forgot to tell you!"

She leaned forward proudly.

"I'm Lina Veyra."

As if that explained everything.

Darian repeated it once in his mind.

Lina Veyra.

Too small a name for something that loud.

"How long have you been here?" he asked.

She thought seriously.

"…A long time. The sun moved a lot."

Silence stretched between them.

Then Lina looked at him again.

"You don't smile much."

"…No."

"That's sad."

Darian didn't respond.

Instead, he stood.

A decision forming without permission.

Ten minutes later, Lina was still talking.

About clouds. About cats. About how silence feels weird when you listen to it too long.

Darian said almost nothing.

But she followed him anyway.

Like it was already decided.

And for the first time in a long time—

he didn't stop her.
