Chapter 28 - War begins

The name didn't leave the air.

It stayed there.

Heavy.

Unwelcome.

---

Veer stared at it for a long moment.

As if saying it out loud would make it real.

---

"It's him," Aarohi said quietly.

---

No hesitation.

No doubt.

---

Veer exhaled slowly, his hand tightening around the steering wheel.

"Since when?" he asked.

---

Aarohi shook her head. "I don't know how long… but long enough to know everything about us."

---

Silence filled the car.

But it wasn't empty.

It was building.

---

"That explains everything," Veer muttered.

"The ambush. The tracking. The timing."

---

Aarohi looked at him.

"And now?"

---

Veer turned the key.

The engine roared to life.

---

"Now," he said, his voice colder than before,

"We stop reacting."

---

That word again.

---

Aarohi didn't question it this time.

She understood.

---

Because this wasn't fear anymore.

---

This was war.

---

---

The location was familiar.

Too familiar.

---

An abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city.

One of Veer's old places.

---

"Why here?" Aarohi asked as they stepped out of the car.

---

"Because he'll think it's safe," Veer replied.

---

That said enough.

---

Inside—

the air was thick.

Still.

---

Footsteps echoed faintly as they walked in.

---

And then—

he appeared.

---

The man they trusted.

The one who had stood beside Veer for years.

---

"You shouldn't have come here," he said.

---

Veer's expression didn't change.

---

"You shouldn't have betrayed me."

---

Silence.

---

The man laughed nervously.

"You don't understand—"

---

"Then explain," Aarohi cut in.

---

Both men looked at her.

---

"You risked everything," she continued.

"For what?"

---

A pause.

Then—

his face changed.

---

"Power," he said.

---

Simple.

Ugly.

Real.

---

"Raghav promised you that?" Veer asked.

---

"He promised me more than you ever did," the man replied.

---

That line—

crossed something.

---

Veer stepped forward slowly.

Dangerously calm.

---

"I gave you everything," he said.

---

"And I took what I deserved," the man shot back.

---

Silence exploded between them.

---

Aarohi felt it.

The shift.

---

This wasn't just betrayal.

---

It was personal.

---

"You chose the wrong side," Veer said quietly.

---

"And you lost control," the man replied.

---

That was his mistake.

---

Because Veer didn't react with anger.

---

He reacted with decision.

---

In one swift movement—

he closed the distance.

---

The confrontation was fast.

Sharp.

Unforgiving.

---

Aarohi didn't look away.

Didn't stop him.

---

Because she understood now—

some choices couldn't be undone.

---

The man collapsed moments later.

Silence followed.

---

Heavy.

Final.

---

Aarohi's breath was steady.

But her thoughts weren't.

---

"This is what your world looks like," she said quietly.

---

Veer didn't deny it.

---

"Yes."

---

No excuse.

No justification.

---

Just truth.

---

Aarohi looked at him.

Really looked.

---

"And now I'm part of it," she said.

---

A pause.

---

Veer met her gaze.

---

"You chose to be."

---

That was the difference.

---

Not forced.

Not trapped.

---

Chosen.

---

Outside—

the night felt darker.

Heavier.

---

Because something had shifted.

---

The line had been crossed.

---

And there was no going back.

---

As they walked out—

Aarohi didn't hesitate.

---

Didn't step back.

---

She walked beside him.

---

Not behind.

---

Because this wasn't just his war anymore.

---

It was theirs.

---

And this time—

they weren't waiting to be attacked.

---

They were ready to fight.
