Chapter 3 - Grey Helm

Just as he equipped the grey helm he felt unbearable pain, a pain that attacks his mind.

"A-argh ahhhh! I-it hurts!! it hurts so much!! W-what is this?"

This is the first time Vyrel felt such a painful experience, it hurts more than ten Paraponera clavatat (bullet ant) biting you.

"G-grahh!!"

He shouted through the top of his lungs, realizing everyone who wears a helm experiences this same sensation.

As he shouts loudly, his mother, Kaelis heard him screaming and came rushing towards his room, but his room was locked.

His mother knocked hard on the wooden door loudly.

THUD! THUD!

Vyrel who's experiencing such unbearable pain suddenly fell off his bed and made a loud sound that startled his mother.

THUMP!

"Vy!! are you okay? why are you screaming?"

His mother kept saying his name wanting to know if he's alright.

After five minutes of excruciating pain, Vyrel who's sweating and panting heavily slowly got up to his bed and sat down.

His mother is still shouting his name outside the room, and he slowly says.

"I-i am okay mom, i-i was just having nightmares, and fell off my bed, that's all, so don't worry"

His breath ran out as he spoke those words.

His mother who was worried slowly and silently said to him.

"A-alright as long as you're okay, but eat breakfast as soon as you feel better"

Kaelis slowly goes back to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Vyrel was still panting and sweating profusely and his head felt like it was spinning, went to the mirror next to his cabinet and looked at himself.

"W-what happened to me.... I-it still hurts, the pain.... it hurts, I don't want to experience it again! it hurts!"

As he calmed down after a few minutes, he opened the door walking as if he was crippled from his sleep.

When he got to the kitchen, his mother was waiting for him and prepared his meat stew from yesterday's hunt.

While serving him stew, Kaelis noticed Vyrel wasn't in the right shape. His eyes were full of black circles, looking at his stew as if he saw his father's ghost.

When his mother finally spoke to him, he snapped back out of it. His mother with a worried look on her face, asked his son if everything was alright.

Vyrel struggling to look at his mother lied and said.

"Y-yeah! everything is fine! don't worry mom... I'm okay!'

His mother knew he was hiding something but still accepted that alibi.

"Alright! if you want to tell me something just ask me, okay?" his mother said.

"A-alright i will!' he replied.

When he grabbed the wooden spoon he suddenly saw something forming through the entire wooden spoon, a formation of lines that feels like the veins of the structure.

He squinted his eyes and brushed it off many times thinking he was hallucinating, but the vein-like formation wouldn't disappear. He flipped the utensil in his hand and saw a red spot full of cracked-like formation, he was curious about it and tried to touch and put pressure on this red spot, then suddenly the wooden spoon broke into pieces.

His mother noticed the spoon break into pieces.

"W-what happened vy? are you okay? why did the spoon break?" his mom said to him.

"I-it suddenly breaks, i didn't do anything" Vyrel said with an anxious voice.

His mother looked at him with a worrying expression.

"Vy. What's making you look like a shivering dog soaked in cold water? first you fell on your bed and now breaking spoons. Are you sure that you're okay?" his mother said with a worrying tone.

"Y-yes mom, i was just having memories of my nightmares, don't worry i will be fine after a few rest" Vyrel said with an anxious tone.

His mother, then picked up the jagged pieces of the wooden spoon. Still worrying about his son, but still accepted his reasoning to comfort him.

"As long as you're okay, and also can you run an errand for me later? i want you to go to your father's smithy to get an iron pot, uncle blaverisk will be waiting for you there"

"Alright mom, i will go later after i finish my meal"

He finished his meat stew and ran to his father's smithy, about a 10 minute walk from his home. He was exhausted by the time he got to the smithy, he knocked on the door.

Knock! Knock!

Noticing that no one opens the door, and it was unlocked. He opened the door and went inside the smithy, there he saw various metal made objects.

It was nothing compared to how he saw it before obtaining the helm, before it was just metals and tools. Now he sees them completely differently, every object he sees lying around has the same vein-like structure on them.

"Pant! Pant!" exhausted while resting on an anvil.

"T-these are the same lines I saw on the wooden spoon"

His eyes are curious about the change that was from just metal arts to seeing them as if it was a treasure of every blacksmith. He looked around more and more until he saw something that caught his eye, something that resembles a shield, but it was too small for it to be used as a normal shield.

He took a closer look and found that there was a green spot, before he only saw a blue and red. Now he sees something completely different, a green one that covers the handle of that small shield.

He had never seen something like this before, not until he got the grey helm. He picked up the shield and inspected the green spot. But before he could fully inspect the item, a large shadow was behind him.

He suddenly looked behind him and saw his uncle blaverisk.

"Hey, Vy, What are you doing with that spouchy?" says blaverisk

"Oh! hello uncle! I was just uh.. Looking at it, i was curious because it was too small to be a shield!" says Vyrel

"Hoo, that one there is what ye call a spouchy, it's not a normal shield that you'll see around. Used on your forearm to protect yourself without a giant shield"

"Hey uncle! you mind if I see it for a second?" Vyrel says with the tone he usually uses around who's familiar to him.

"Hm? What? got interested in smithy all of a sudden? Here! Take a look at how i made it, sturdy right?"

Grab!

"I'll wear it for a sec, is that alright?" Vyrel asked.

"Yeah, yeah. Just don't break em." his uncle replied.

He put it on his right forearm and saw the densest part of the green spot, he gently pressed it thinking if it would get destroyed just like the red one. But it didn't, the spouchy never reacted, he tried it again but this time with force.

The spouchy never reacted no matter what he did, so he gave up thinking the green color was useless.

"Here uncle, thanks!" he says with a disappointed face.

"Hm? what happened lad? got bored of it already?"

"N-no, i was just looking at it cuz i was curious about something. Hey uncle have you ever seen something like a vein that's forming on your crafts?"

"Veins? What are you talking about? says blaverisk with a confused face.

"O-oh it was nothing" says Vyrel

"Hold on! I've never seen this vein-like formation before, but you know what every blacksmith sees? A white and blurry point to everything we create!"

"A white point?" says Vyrel

"That's right lad! every blacksmith sees this white point, I myself can see it more clearly too. Unlike your father who can see blue ones, grahahaha!"

"My father can see a blue point? How is it different from you?" says Vyrel

"That's right a blue one, he thought it was useless and so do I! but what he sees is the entire structure of the craft, unlike mine that can see the weaknesses of the object, I can't really explain what he sees"

"I-I see, Hey uncle! can you teach me about smithing? i want to learn about the structure of every craft! and i want to learn how to create things!" he says with a bright smile.

Blaverisk suddenly shifted his usual easygoing aura, to an aura that you can feel pressure.

DOOM!!

His uncle looked at him with serious eyes, Vyrel got a feeling that if he decides to make him his mentor he'll prob experience hell.

"Teach? You? Hah! you have some gut kid! Even your father was scared of me! You sure you have some balls to be my disciple?"

Vyrel gutted his teeth and responded with pure confidence.

"Don't worry uncle! I will never give up until you teach me everything you've got! I swear to my father's name, I Vyrel son of Veronyl, swear to give everything i have to learn all your teachings!"

"Hah! never expected you to swear it upon your father's name! Very well, Lad! I will allow you to be my disciple, I will teach you everything i have earned"

"Come back tomorrow in the morning, I will teach you how to forge your first weapon! and also before you forget, the pot your mother asked you to fetch is in the basement"

"T-thank you uncle! i will do my best to work hard and learn!"

He then proceeded to go down the basement of the smithy, and when he opened the door of the basement he was shocked by the scenery he saw across the basement.

It was full of artifacts made from the sweat and blood of his uncle and his father, he saw something else that was neither glowing blue, red, nor green. It was a golden one.

"W-what are those crafts?"
