Chapter 65 - Soft Things Don’t Need to Be Proven

The morning didn't ask for attention.

Shen Yichen didn't give it any anyway.

That small absence of urgency had become his normal now.

Not something he practiced.

Something he lived.

Lu Han stood near the doorway, watching him for a while before speaking.

"You don't check anything anymore," he said quietly.

Shen Yichen didn't deny it.

"…I don't feel the need," he replied.

A pause.

"It doesn't feel important the way it used to."

Silence.

Lin Yue looked at him softly.

"And what feels important now?" she asked.

Shen Yichen thought for a moment.

"…This," he said quietly.

A pause.

"Being here."

Silence.

That answer used to be unreachable without fear attached to it.

Now it stood alone.

Lu Han stepped forward slightly.

"You're no longer defining safety through vigilance," he said.

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"I think I stopped doing that a while ago," he said quietly.

A pause.

"It just took me time to notice."

Silence.

Lin Yue stepped slightly closer.

Shen Yichen noticed—but there was no reaction spike anymore.

Just awareness.

She was here.

And she stayed.

Lin Yue spoke softly.

"You don't hold on tightly anymore," she said.

Shen Yichen shook his head once.

"…No," he said quietly.

A pause.

"But I also don't feel like I'm letting go."

Silence.

That was the most accurate part.

Lu Han exhaled slowly.

"You've reached emotional balance," he said.

Shen Yichen looked at him.

"I don't think I feel balance as a concept," he said quietly.

A pause.

"It just feels… steady."

Silence.

Lin Yue tilted her head slightly.

"What do I feel like to you now?" she asked softly.

Shen Yichen looked at her for a long moment.

"…Home," he said quietly.

A pause.

"And something I don't need to protect to keep safe."

Silence.

No distortion.

No fear.

Just clarity that didn't shake anymore.

Lu Han stepped back slightly.

"You've completed full integration," he said quietly.

Shen Yichen didn't respond immediately.

Then softly:

"I don't think I changed into someone else," he said.

A pause.

"I think I just stopped fighting myself."

Silence.

Lin Yue smiled faintly.

"And now?" she asked.

Shen Yichen looked at her.

"…Now I stay," he said quietly.

A pause.

"Not because I'm afraid of losing anything."

Silence.

"But because I finally understand that nothing real needs to be held tightly to remain real."

And in that final stillness—

peace wasn't something he reached.

It was something that had always been there.

He just finally stopped getting in its way.
