Chapter 84 - Preparing Twenty Years In Advance (1)

Even as the Dragonborn said this, both he and his fellow guests felt a sudden wave of worldly power wash over them. Norani's breakthrough had come just as Luca had expected it would, though it was not in the way he expected. Initially, he thought he'd have to prove it himself, but it seemed that the Dreamwalker had decided to take his words to heart. His open willingness to reveal his innermost secrets (though not all of them), coupled with his wholehearted desire to save Andor, made her accept the young lad's words. This made him feel gratified, knowing that he had already changed one person's fate to some extent.

After a few moments of godly power flowed through the interior of the Eye of Selene, the aura soon condensed itself back into Norani's body. She then opened her eyes from her sudden breakthrough, "My son still lives... I still have kin after all these years..." A small tear slid down her cheek as she gathered her wits and gave a small bow to the young boy that eased her burden, "Little Dragonborn, you have my most sincere thanks."

Luca was as surprised as the rest at the Dreamwalker's sincere action, stammering as he tried to speak, "J-just doing what I set ou-out to do." He then cleared his throat a little in an attempt to recollect himself, "At present, there is a number of things that can be done, but the most prevalent is actually coming up in a few weeks in the Valarion Kingdom's provincial city of Clearpine. One of the royal families of the Dark Elves is to make a move that convinces the other families that Bossen Province, the closest province to their territories, can be conquered and claimed as long as Clearpine City is crushed. In the original timeline in my memories, they succeeded spectacularly. So spectacularly, in fact, that they struck two birds with one stone by capturing First Princess Samantha Valar, who would then be corrupted and used as an assassin against her own kin. The culmination of this success came about when they successfully used her to kill her father."

Arthur suffered a heavy blow from Luca's words, and rightly so. He'd already known before that his eldest daughter would be corrupted into an assassin specializing in killing Valar royals, but he had not known that his own end came about at the twisted Samantha's hands. This made the human king wrathfully slam his fist on the table as he growled under his breath, "Damn them all..."

While startled from the sudden sound, Luca continued after the brief interruption, "However, that same Dark Elf royal family revealed themselves to be corrupted by demons since before Clearpine City's events. They were not like the mindless Tainted, but Dark Elves that had been willingly modified by demonic influence into a crueller, more vile version of themselves. In a sense, they were kin to the Ash Elves from their corruption but bore greater power and intelligence since their kin were unwillingly altered. That royal family became the race known as Abyss Elves, capable of wielding demonic magic with the same skill as Dark Elves had with Andorian magic. In fact, they were even more terrifying than Dark Elves with assassination skills, as most people couldn't sense demonic auras until later in the Second Andorian War."

At this point, Nesine spoke up, "A Dark Elf royal family becoming demonic servants, right under the nose of their own Pseudo-Sage? How daring can they be?"

The Dreamwalker nodded in concurrence, "Indeed. I doubt that Atlaros would overlook such a thing. After all, he was born before the start of the first war, while I was only born in the latter half of the three centuries the war spanned. He's lost much more than I have and has far greater experience in fighting demons than anyone I can think of." Her fellow Pseudo-Sage, Atlaros Uvelthyn, was one of the few people she deeply respected and understood more than others. His old monicker from the first war was simply Sanguine, a title that came about due to his almost berserk style of melee combat that rarely left any part of him clean of demon blood. As the only physical combatant of any Pseudo- or true Sage left in Andor, the ancient Martial God's combat prowess was considered to be unmatched, just like his fists.

"Actually, the Martial God did not know about it due to several factors. The first is that the leaders of that royal family made their headquarters outside of the capital city of Yamelune. Despite having an extremely powerful perception, he could not sense clearly at such a distance. Second, an expert in barrier spells was among the higher-ups of that family, which further protected their secret dealings. Third, they were always careful to never interact with their demon allies outside of their secret bases or their headquarters. Finally, they waited until the annual fortnight that the Martial God secluded himself completely to observe an uninterrupted vigil of the last two weeks of the first war."

Gethras absentmindedly scratched at the side of his jaw as he thought aloud, "This means that they are exceptionally good at strategising. Any changes to their plans would be disastrous, thus their great care in secrecy. Extraordinary... I doubt anyone else would have the guts to do such a dangerous operation under the nose of a demon-slaying war hero such as the Martial God." The others at the table all agreed in silence, as none of them could imagine anyone becoming so daring. A Pseudo-Sage was in one of the few beings in tune with the world will of Andor. Pulling the wool over the eyes of a borderline almighty being such as Atlaros or Norani would be a monumentally difficult challenge for even the best schemer.

"Based on your words, young lad, I assume you're willing to provide proof of your claims via memory, correct?" Norani had a hunch that the boy would agree, but decided to ask to be sure.

"Yes, absolutely. I'm aware that you can use your magic to place memories into a recording tool, so I am more than happy to assist. The most effective way to stop this faction war before it can begin is to alert the Martial God immediately. I am almost certain that hearing of members of his race cavorting with demons would thoroughly enrage him."

"Oh, my dear Dragonborn boy, you have no idea."
