"Alright everyone!" the park staff announced cheerfully, holding up a wooden box like it contained cursed relics instead of metal tokens. "The Haunted Mansion is very full today, so we'll again be using random number pairing!"
Vince gasped dramatically.
"YESSS. CHAOS RETURNS."
Jeff groaned like a soul leaving his body.
"I want a refund."
Kate whispered to Lara, "Brace yourself."
Lara crossed her arms, jaw tight. "If this box separates me and Steven again, I swear—"
Steven stood beside her stoically, hands in pockets, face unreadable.

I was trying to pretend my heart wasn't still jumpy from having just ridden a roller coaster with him.
