When Li Jinshui and Monkey entered, the lobby was already packed with people, all in military uniforms, drinking, playing drinking games, and boasting—it was so noisy it was almost as if the roof was about to fall off.

The waiter weaved through the crowd, sweating profusely, but his smile was brighter than ever.

"Gentlemen, please come upstairs!" The waiter, with sharp eyes, spotted the token on Li Jinshui's waist and immediately approached him obsequiously. "We have private rooms upstairs!"

"No need for private rooms," Li Jinshui glanced around the lobby. "Downstairs is fine."

[At this point, I hope readers will remember our domain name: Taiwan Novel Network. We have a large library of books; t̲̲̅̅w̲̲̅̅k̲̲̅̅a̲̲̅̅n̲̲̅̅.c̲̲̅̅o̲̲̅̅m̲̲̅̅ for you to choose from.]

  He saw a familiar face.

At the large table by the window, Qin Lie, Zhao Tieniu, Zhou Tai, and several others were drinking. The table was laden with dishes, and two wine jars were already empty.

Qin Lie was the first to see him, jumped up, waved, and shouted, "Commander Li—no, now I should call him Li the Personal Guard! Come here!"

Li Jinshui walked over with Monkey, and Qin Lie shoved him back into his seat. Zhao Tieniu had already filled his glass with wine.

"You're something else, kid!" Qin Lie patted his shoulder with enough force to break him apart. "Personnel Guard Battalion! The most awesome place in Jubei City! Don't forget us when you make it big!"

Li Jinshui picked up his wine bowl and clinked it against his: "I won't."

Monkey chuckled beside him, poured himself a bowl, and downed it in one gulp.

"And this is?" Zhou Tai asked, looking at Monkey.

"My brother, Monkey," Li Jinshui said, "just came from the Daredevil Camp, and now he's with me."

Qin Lie's eyes lit up, and he also toasted Monkey with a bowl of wine: "Those who come out of the Daredevil Camp are all heroes! Come on, drink!"

After a few bowls of wine, the atmosphere became lively.

Zhao Tieniu, his face flushed from drinking, put his arm around Monkey's shoulder and boasted, "Let me tell you, your squad leader—no, your Li Jinshui, he's no ordinary man! That night, he killed three Inner Strongholds all by himself! Three! I saw it with my own eyes!"

Monkey's eyes lit up, and his gaze towards Li Jinshui became even brighter.

Li Jinshui didn't say anything, just picked at his food and ate.

The meal lasted for two hours.

It was already dark when they left Zuixianlou. Monkey was staggering from drinking and had to be supported by Zhao Tieniu.

Qin Lie leaned close to Li Jinshui and asked in a low voice, "Want to go to Wenrouxiang?"

Li Jinshui glanced at him, then at Monkey.

  "Yes."

Wenrouxiang was still the same as before, with red lanterns hanging high and several heavily made-up women standing at the entrance. Upon seeing their group, they immediately greeted them with smiles.

"Master Qin! It's been a long time!"

"This military officer looks unfamiliar. Is this your first time here?"

Li Jinshui was pulled inside by a girl in a green dress, and this time he didn't refuse.

They went up to the third floor and entered a private room. Food and drinks were served, and the girls sat down around them.

Li Jinshui leaned against the soft couch, with the girl in the green dress sitting next to him, pouring him wine and serving him food.

He took a sip, ate a bite, occasionally saying a few words to her, but otherwise just watching the lively scene in the private room.

Qin Lie was playing drinking games again, Zhao Tieniu was boasting with his arms around two girls, and Zhou Tai was leaning against the window with a wine glass in his hand, lost in thought.

The monkey, its face flushed red like a monkey's bottom after being forced to drink several cups of wine by a girl, kept grinning foolishly.

Li Jinshui watched them, a slow smile playing on his lips.

  This feeling was wonderful.

No need to think about killing, no need to think about war, no need to think about those wretched things.

Just drink, eat meat, and watch girls.

He picked up his wine cup and downed it in one gulp.

"Sir, you have a good capacity for alcohol," the girl in the green dress said with a smile, refilling his cup.

Li Jinshui turned to look at her; her face appeared soft in the candlelight, her eyebrows curved, and her smile was beautiful.

  "What's your name?"

  "My name is Wan Niang."

Li Jinshui nodded and took another sip.

Night fell, and the group rested in the idyllic retreat.

Li Jinshui lay beside Wan Niang, listening to the teasing sounds coming from next door, gazing at the roof.

Wan Niang was curled up in his arms, breathing evenly, fast asleep.

He reached out and gently stroked her face.

Her skin was smooth, her eyes soft.

He remembered himself three months ago, curled up in that dilapidated carriage.

Back then, he thought it was a miracle he was even alive.

  Now—

he smiled and closed his eyes.

  …

  A haven of tenderness.

  The night was deep.

Qin Lie's snoring from next door rolled back and forth through the thin wall. Wan Niang slept soundly, her breathing even.

Li Jinshui opened his eyes, sat up gently, dressed, and slipped out.

After turning two corners, he retrieved the bundle he had hidden during the day under the old locust tree—night clothes, sleeping incense, a short blade, and the antidote. He quickly changed his clothes and put the antidote under his tongue.

The back gate of the Li family courtyard was dilapidated and opened easily.

Li Jinshui crept into the courtyard, lit the sleeping incense, and first blew it into the main room—the clan leader's bedroom.

A wisp of smoke silently seeped in through the crack in the door, like an invisible snake.

Then came the east wing—his second uncle's family.

The west wing—his third uncle's family.

Then came the back room—Wang Shi and Li Jinbao's residence.

Wisps of smoke silently seeped into each room.

After a cup of tea, the entire courtyard was deathly silent.

In the back room, Wang Shi and Li Jinbao

were fast asleep. Li Jinshui stuffed the antidote into the mouths of Wang Shi, Li Jinbao, and the neighbor's second aunt, while the others remained unconscious.

  Wang Shi woke up first.

She groggily opened her eyes, propped herself up, and rubbed her eyes.

The moonlight was bright, illuminating the room in a dim light. She saw Li Jinbao still lying on the couch, seemingly still asleep.

  "Awake?"

The voice was soft and flat, as if asking what she had eaten that evening.

  Wang Shi stiffened.

She slowly, inch by inch, turned her head.

In the shadows where the moonlight couldn't reach, stood a person.

In the moonlight, she saw a man in black standing three steps away, his eyes as cold as knives.

She opened her mouth to scream—a hand gripped her throat like an iron clamp.

"Don't scream." Li Jinshui's voice came from behind the black cloth. "If you scream, I'll kill you first, then your son."

Wang's scream caught in her throat, her eyes widened as if they were about to burst, and tears instantly welled up.

She collapsed to the ground, trembling all over, her teeth chattering.

Li Jinshui released her and walked towards Li Jinbao.

Li Jinbao had just woken up. He saw those eyes at once, his pupils contracted sharply, and he opened his mouth to scream—Li Jinshui punched him in the temple, gagged him with a rag, and tied a rope around his wrist in a tight knot.

Li Jinbao was lifted up, the rope swinging over the iron hook on the window frame, hanging in mid-air.

He was like a piece of meat hanging on a rack, his feet two feet off the ground, his crotch already soaked, the stench of urine filling the air.

Wang, like a madwoman, lunged at Li Jinshui and grabbed his legs, crying, "Don't kill my son! I'll give you money! I'll give you anything you want!"

Li Jinshui kicked her away, saying, "What I want, you can't afford."

He drew a short blade from his waist, took a candle from his lantern, lit it, and held it on the tip of the blade, raising it above Li Jinbao's head.

Li Jinbao, his mouth stuffed with cloth, let out muffled screams, tears and snot streaming down his face, crying, "No—no—Jinshui—brother—I was wrong—!"

The flame touched his hair and instantly flared up. Amidst the sizzling sound and the smell of burning, Li Jinbao's screams changed tone, like a wild beast having its throat stomped on.

Flames burned on his head, his hair curled, his skin blistered, and oil dripped, making a soft hissing sound.

Li Jinshui added some kerosene, and the flames instantly spread throughout his body.

Wang desperately tried to pounce, but Li Jinshui pressed her to the ground with one hand, her face pressed against the blue bricks, unable to move.

She screamed, cried, and begged for mercy, her voice growing increasingly hoarse.

Two cups of tea later, Li Jinbao fainted from the pain.

His entire body was burned beyond recognition.

Li Jinshui extinguished the fire and lifted Wang Shi up: "Did you see clearly? Your son, I've taken him away."

Wang Shi's eyes were already glazed over, she was completely terrified.

At this moment, the door was pushed open.

  It was Second Aunt.

She lived next door, and after the antidote took effect, she got up in a daze. Hearing the commotion, she put on her clothes and came over.

The door wasn't closed properly, and she pushed it open to see—

moonlight shone in, shining on the masked man in black, on the short blade at his waist, and on Li Jinbao's face, who was bound on the bed.

Second Aunt let out a scream.

The scream was only half-finished when Li Jinshui was already in front of her, slapping her across the face.

Not hard, but accurate—just enough to interrupt her scream, making her head buzz and her vision blur.

He grabbed her hair and dragged her into the house like a sack of grain.

The door closed behind him, shutting out the moonlight. Only two women and a bound man remained inside.

"Second Aunt," Li Jinshui called, crouching down.

Second Aunt's eyes were filled with terror—she remembered how he'd poured porridge on the ground to feed the dogs rather than give him a bowl.

Li Jinshui grabbed her left hand, pressed it to the ground, and brought the knife down

  cleanly .

His left hand was completely severed.

Second Aunt's eyes widened in shock, the sound of blood escaping her mouth muffled by the gag.

A sharp pain exploded from her very bones; her body arched, held down by Li Jinshui, convulsing violently like a fish nailed to the shore.

Blood sprayed onto the blue bricks, splattering onto Li Jinshui's black clothes.

He didn't stop. He grabbed her right hand and brought the knife down again.

Both hands were on the ground. Second

Aunt couldn't scream anymore, her mouth agape, emitting hissing sounds, her pupils dilated, half-conscious.

Li Jinshui lifted her up and dragged her into Second Uncle's room in the east wing.

Second Uncle was still asleep, a slight smile playing on his lips.

Li Jinshui placed his second aunt next to his second uncle, pulled the blanket over her severed arm wound—to slow the bleeding, to let her suffer and die slowly in bed.

He returned to the back room.

Wang was paralyzed on the floor, trembling.

Li Jinbao hung motionless from the beam, yellow fluid still seeping from the scorched pit above his head.

Li Jinshui grabbed Wang's hand and stabbed her.

His left hand landed on the blue bricks with a dull thud.

Wang didn't scream—her mouth opened as wide as it would, the sound caught in her throat, turning into a faint, babyish cry.

Blood splattered on her face, and her teeth began to chatter, the chattering growing louder and louder.

  The second cut.

Her right hand fell to the ground.

Wang's body arched like a shrimp, her severed arm tucked into her bosom, trying to suppress the wound.

She let out a small groan, a gurgling sound mixed with blood and foam.

Li Jinshui dragged her back to her original bed and covered her with a blanket.

Then he untied Li Jinbao, who was hanging there, and carried him into the main room of the clan chief, Li Houde.

Li Houde was sleeping on the bed, snoring steadily.

Li Jinshui hung Li Jinbao from the beam in front of the bed, leaving him suspended half a foot off the ground, his charred face facing the clan chief.

Then he retrieved Li Jinbao's two hands from the back room—he had just finished the cut—and placed them neatly beside the clan chief's pillow.

After doing all this, Li Jinshui wiped the short blade clean, took off his night clothes, and went out through the side gate.

The moon was setting in the west.

The night in Jubei City was still so quiet.

He returned to his lap, undressed, and lay down.

Wan Niang turned over in her sleep, her arm draped over his waist.

  Li Jinshui closed his eyes.

  ...

  Dawn was approaching.

  At 3:45 AM.

  Li Houde woke up first.

He turned over, feeling parched and his head heavy. Then he smelled a strong acrid smell of burning and blood.

  He opened his eyes abruptly.

Morning light streamed into the room. Hanging before the bed was a dark, charred mass—a human figure. A charred face, lips burned away, revealing gums and teeth, the nose reduced to two black holes.

  But he recognized the clothes.

  Li Jinbao.

Li Houde opened his mouth, but nothing came out. His eyes were fixed on the charred face, his pupils contracting sharply.

Then he saw beside the pillow—two hands, painted with nail polish, fingers still slightly curled, silver rings gleaming in the morning light.

  His second aunt's hands.

Li Houde's body trembled violently, his teeth chattering, his vocal cords emitting only a faint hiss.

His eyes rolled back, and with a thud, he rolled off the bed, fell to the floor, and passed out.

  His body was still trembling.

Second Uncle Li Houyi was awakened by a dampness.

He reached out and touched it—his hand was covered in blood. He turned sharply and saw his wife lying beside him, the blanket covering her neck.

He pulled back the blanket—both arms were severed cleanly two inches below the shoulders, the cuts haphazardly stuffed with cloth, the blood soaking through the blanket.

Second Uncle let out a long, mournful howl, like the mooing of a cow.

Third Uncle Li Houli rushed in, saw the scene on the bed, his legs went weak, and he knelt on the floor, his knees hitting the bricks with a dull thud. His face was as white as a corpse, his lips trembling, unable to speak.

Then he remembered something, turned, and ran towards the main room.

Pushing open the door—Li Houde lay naked on the floor, his face ashen, his body convulsing.

Li Jinbao's charred body hung before the bed, two hands resting beside the pillow.

Uncle San stood rooted to the spot, mouth agape, emitting a faint, drawn-out hiss, his eyes rolling upwards, revealing the whites.

He wanted to faint, but couldn't.

His legs felt nailed to the ground, unable to move an inch.

Screams echoed in the courtyard, one after another, like firecrackers being lit, then suddenly falling silent—the screamers themselves were gripped by fear.

  Uncle San could finally move.

He walked out of the main house, passed by Uncle Er's room, and glanced inside: Uncle Er was holding half of his wife's body, his mouth opening and closing as if he were saying something, his face smeared with tears and snot.

Uncle San smiled—his lips twitched upwards, his eyes downwards, his whole face contorted like a crumpled rag.

After smiling, he bent over and vomited, then sat on the ground, staring blankly at the sunlight in the courtyard.

  Spring had arrived.

The old locust tree had sprouted new buds, tender and green.

  But Uncle San felt cold.

Cold from the very marrow of his bones, his teeth chattering, his whole body trembling.

He remembered Li Jinshui's words: "I'll come back to see you after I'm done with this busy period."

He thought it was a threat.

It turned out to be a notification.

He didn't know when the next time would be.

  Maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight.

Maybe some morning when he opened his eyes and saw his hand lying on his pillow.

  He would never know.

  He would always be waiting.

  He would always be afraid.

In the courtyard, screams, cries, and shouts mingled into a boiling pot of fear.

  ...

  A gentle haven.

When Wan Niang woke up, Li Jinshui was already dressed and sitting by the window drinking tea.

The morning light shone on his profile, his expression calm.

"Did you sleep well last night, sir?" Wan Niang asked.

Li Jinshui took a sip of tea, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Very well. I slept very soundly."

Outside the window, the rising sun bathed the rooftops of Jubei City in gold.

In the Li family compound in the east of the city, the crying had not yet stopped.

Chapter 28 Regular Army

When Li Jinshui returned to the camp, it was just dawn.

Wan Niang was still asleep; he hadn't woken her when he left.

The girls in the "gentle haven" were used to guests coming at night and leaving at daybreak, and they wouldn't even lift their eyelids.

Monkey followed behind him, his steps unsteady, muttering things like "that sister is really nice." Li Jinshui ignored him and hurried towards the camp.

  Just

as he reached the camp gate, he heard a rapid war drumbeat.

  It wasn't the usual alarm.

It was the kind of deep, urgent war drumbeat that pounded on the heart.

  Everyone was on the wall.

Li Jinshui stopped, his face instantly changing.

  "Go!"

He grabbed Monkey, and the two of them ran towards the camp.

Rushing into the barracks, donning his armor, grabbing his sword, and running out, he saw the northern sky ablaze with firelight.

It wasn't just one fire, but countless others.

The Di people's regular army had arrived.

Chaos reigned on the city walls.

Li Jinshui froze as he charged forward.

Outside the walls, a vast, dark mass of Di soldiers stretched to the horizon like a tidal wave. Not five thousand, not ten thousand, but at least thirty thousand.

  Thirty thousand Di soldiers.

Battle flags stood in dense array, siege towers stood shoulder to shoulder, ladders were as numerous as a forest, and battering rams, catapults, ballistae—everything was there.

  The regular army.

This was the Di people's regular army.

  "Form ranks!!!"

A hoarse roar echoed from the city walls. It was Zhou Kui's voice; his injuries hadn't fully healed, yet he was already at the forefront.

Li Jinshui took a deep breath, gripped his sword hilt, and glanced back at the monkey who had followed.

  "Stay close to me."

Before the words were even finished, a rain of arrows blotted out the sky.

This volley of arrows was denser than any before.

Li Jinshui held up his shield to protect the monkey, but his left arm was hit by three arrows. His Iron Shirt skill allowed him to withstand the damage, but a new recruit next to him couldn't block the arrows and was shot into a pincushion.

  "Kill!!!"

The ladder was placed on the wall, and the Di soldiers began to surge upwards.

The first one to emerge was at the eighth level of Body Tempering.

Li Jinshui slashed down with his sword, and the man fell without even a groan.

[Killed a Northern Di soldier, +1 point]

The second, the third, the fourth...

He guarded the gap in the middle of the city wall, not retreating an inch.

The Wolf Killing Seven Forms were perfected, the sword light was like a bolt of lightning, each strike taking a life. The sword energy was so solid that it seemed tangible, one strike cut through armor and flesh, even bones could not withstand it.

  [+1]

[+3, Killed a Northern Di Ten-Manager (Ninth Level of Body Tempering)]

  ...

But there were too many Di soldiers.

Kill one, and two more came up. Kill two, and four more came up.

The Zhou soldiers around him fell one by one, and new ones came to their place.

Qin Lie was not far to the left, surrounded by three Di soldiers, covered in blood but still fighting desperately. Zhou Tai's knife broke, but he picked it up and continued hacking. Zhao Tieniu was stabbed in the right shoulder, but his left hand still gripped the knife and swung it.

Monkey was behind him, at the fifth level of Body Tempering, his swordsmanship still rough, but he didn't retreat an inch, desperately protecting Li Jinshui's back.

  [+1]

  [+1]

  [+1...]

  The points were jumping wildly.

Li Jinshui killed while roaring in his heart:

  "Add Rock Body!"

[Rock Body: Not yet mastered (0/100)]

[Consumed 100 points, Rock Body mastered]

  Boom—

The energy in his body suddenly became heavy, flowing slowly like lead.

A faint layer of turquoise appeared on the surface of his skin, quickly disappearing.

He could feel that his flesh and bones were being strengthened by some kind of power, becoming denser and more resilient.

  Rock Body, beginner level.

But the Di soldiers were still surging forward.

  "Add White Tiger Saber Technique!"

[White Tiger Saber Technique: Not yet mastered (0/50)]

[Consuming 50 points, White Tiger Saber Technique beginner level]

A flood of memories rushed into his mind—a huge white tiger pouncing on its prey in the mountains and forests, every pounce, every slash, every sweep carrying the force of thunder.

  The saber technique changed!

It was no longer the cunning and ruthless wolf, but the fierce and domineering tiger!

With one slash, the Di soldier in front of him was cleaved in two, sword and man!

  [+1]

  [+1]

  [+2...]

  "Add Inch Step!"

[Inch Step: Not yet mastered (0/40)]

[Consuming 40 points, Inch Step beginner level]

A strange feeling suddenly appeared under his feet. Within a small space, he could burst out with astonishing speed in an extremely short distance.

A Di soldier's saber was already slashing in front of him—he moved his feet slightly, and his whole body instantly shifted three feet to the side, the blade grazing past his ear. With a backhand slash, the Di soldier's head flew off.

  "Iron Wire Fist!"

[Iron Wire Fist: Not yet mastered (0/40)]

[Consumed 40 points, Iron Wire Fist mastered]

Memories of the fist technique flooded in. Iron Wire Fist, combining hardness and softness, the punches are like iron wires, seemingly light, but actually penetrating to the bone.

A Di soldier rushed in front of him, his curved blade slashing down. He dodged to the side and punched the man in the chest.

  "Crack!"

The sound of the ribcage shattering was clearly audible. The Di soldier spat out blood and flew backward, knocking down two people behind him.

  [+1]

  [+1]

  [+1...]

  All four techniques were mastered.

Li Jinshui took a deep breath, feeling the surging power within his body.

The Rock Body made his defense stronger, the White Tiger Blade Technique made his attacks more ferocious, the Inch Step made his movements faster, and the Iron Wire Fist made him more confident in close combat.

He was now more than twice as strong as he was an hour ago.

He could easily kill five times his previous self.

  "Kill!!!"

He charged at the Di soldiers again.

From dawn till noon, from noon till dusk.

The sun rose and set, and wave after wave of soldiers came and went on the city walls.

Li Jinshui didn't know how many he had killed; he only knew the points indicator kept jumping, jumping, until he lost count.

  [+1]

  [+1]

  [+3]

  [+2]

  [+1...]

He only knew that his comrades were dwindling.

Qin Lie was wounded, and as he was carried away, he was still shouting, "I can still fight!"

Zhou Tai was dead, his neck severed by a Di centurion, his head rolling far away. Zhao Tieniu was missing; he didn't know if he was dead or had been carried away.

  Monkey was still there.

The kid was covered in blood, his own and his enemies', indistinguishable. Yet he kept killing, his swordsmanship becoming increasingly skilled, reaching the sixth level of Body Tempering.

  "Jinshui!" Monkey suddenly shouted, "Look!"

Li Jinshui looked in the direction he pointed—

thick smoke billowed from the city.

It wasn't that the Di people had broken in; people were burning things.

  Deserters?

  Or rioters?

  He didn't know.

But he knew that the situation inside the city was probably no better than on the city walls.

  Inside the city,

  panic gripped the people.

People had started fleeing since yesterday.

First, the wealthy merchants hired carriages, packed large and small loads, and ran south.

Then ordinary people, carrying their belongings and families, surged towards the south gate of the city.

But the south gate was closed.

The governor had ordered: no one was allowed to leave the city during wartime, or they would be executed.

Those who couldn't escape could only burn incense and pray at home, begging the soldiers on the city walls to hold off the Di people.

But news spread faster than anything else.

"I heard the Di people have come with 30,000!"

"30,000? How many do we have? Less than 20,000, right?"

"It's over, it's over, Jubei City can't be held..."

"I heard that several thousand died yesterday alone, the corpses are piled higher than the city walls..."

  "Stop talking, stop talking..."

  Panic spread like a plague.

Some were looting and vandalizing in the streets, profiting from the chaos.

Others hid at home, afraid to go out, their doors and windows tightly shut. Some rushed to the general's mansion gates and knelt, begging the governor to open the city gates and let them go.

Some soldiers were still fighting desperately on the city walls, while others had already secretly deserted.

The thick smoke Li Jinshui saw on the city walls was set by a group of deserters—they looted a grain store, set it on fire to cover their tracks, and then fled into the mountains.

Whether they could escape or not, no one knew.

  General's mansion.

Zhao Zheng stood before the map, his face ashen.

"The west city wall is under attack, requesting reinforcements."

"The east city wall is about to collapse, the battalion commander has been killed in action!" "

Over at the north city wall, the Di people have reinforced their troops..."

One messenger after another rushed in, bringing only bad news.

Zhao Zheng remained silent, staring at the map.

The deputy commander of the personal guard battalion stood beside him, lowering his voice, "Governor, we don't have enough troops. At this rate, we won't last more than a few days."

Zhao Zheng looked up at him.

"We have to hold on, even if we can't."

He paused, his voice heavy as if it were coming from his chest:

"The regular army won't arrive for another three days. In these three days, Jubei City must be held."

  The deputy commander fell silent.

  Three days.

Thirty thousand Di soldiers were attacking the city, and the defending forces numbered less than twenty thousand; they had to hold out for three days.

He didn't know if they could hold on.

But he knew the commander-in-chief wouldn't retreat.

  He wouldn't retreat.

The battle cries from the city walls never ceased throughout the night.

The Di people charged forward like madmen, wave after wave, giving the defenders no chance to catch their breath.

The torchlight illuminated the entire city wall, the狰狞 faces, and the splattered blood.

Li Jinshui was numb with killing.

He only knew to swing his sword, swing his sword, and swing his sword again.

His White Tiger Sword Technique became increasingly proficient, each strike more ferocious than the last. He moved nimbly within a small space, dodging countless fatal attacks. With each punch of his Iron Wire Fist, a Di soldier would fall.

  [+1]

  [+1]

  [+3...]

  The points were still ticking.

But he had no mind to look.

He only knew that his comrades were dwindling.

Familiar faces disappeared one by one.

Unfamiliar faces appeared one by one, then disappeared again.

The blood on the city walls had accumulated to a depth of half an inch, slippery to the touch.

  Monkey was still there.

That kid, with an unknown amount of willpower, had actually held on until now. He was covered in wounds, but his eyes still shone brightly, that indomitable spirit remained.

Li Jinshui glanced at him briefly, then suddenly said, "Withdraw."

  The monkey was stunned. "What?"

"Withdraw," Li Jinshui repeated. "You can't hold on any longer."

The monkey looked at him, his eyes suddenly reddening.

  "What about you?"

Li Jinshui didn't answer, just continued swinging his sword.

The monkey stood there, looked at him for a couple of breaths, then turned and staggered down the city wall.

After a few steps, he turned back and shouted,

  "Jinshui! Don't you fucking die!"

  Li Jinshui didn't turn back.

He just continued swinging his sword.

  Kill.

  Kill.

  Kill.

  Dawn finally broke.

  The Di soldiers retreated.

  Not completely, just temporarily resting.

On the city wall, the survivors knelt on the ground, panting heavily. Some began to cry, some began to laugh, some hugged those around them, whether they knew them or not.

Li Jinshui leaned on his sword, standing by the city wall.

He was covered in blood, his own and the enemy's, indistinguishable. Seven or eight new wounds appeared on his body, the deepest one on his left rib, revealing the bone underneath.

  Yet he stood, ramrod straight.

He pulled up his skill panel:

  [Name: Li Jinshui]

[Realm: Inner Strength Realm (Early Stage)]

[Techniques: Evergreen Skill (Entry-level 0/200), Rock Body (Entry-level 0/100), White Tiger Saber Technique (Entry-level 0/80), Iron Wire Fist (Entry-level 0/60), Inch Step (Entry-level 0/50), Marching Step (Not Entered), Iron Shirt (Perfect), Wolf Killing Seven Styles (Perfect), Tiger Walking Step (Perfect)]

  [Points: 376]

Overnight, he had accumulated over three hundred points.

But he didn't rush to add them.

Because he knew this was just the beginning.

In the distance, in the Di people's camp, war drums sounded again.

  They were coming again.

Li Jinshui took a deep breath and gripped his saber tightly.

Behind him, thick smoke still rose from the city, and cries could be faintly heard.

He didn't know how many more days the city could hold out.

But he knew that as long as he stood there, the Di people wouldn't be able to pass him.

He raised his head and looked at the rising sun.

  A new day had begun.
