Chapter 29 Mid-Stage Internal Strengthening
The moment the sun rose, the war drums of the Di people sounded.
There was no respite, no pause, not even time for the defenders to collect the corpses.
The siege of the city began the next day.
Li Jinshui stood on the city wall, watching the Di soldiers surge in like a tide, gripping his sword tightly.
A night had passed, and his wounds still ached, but the Evergreen Skill was slowly circulating within him, its warm current repeatedly washing over his internal organs, muscles, and skin.
His wounds were healing several times faster than usual; the deep, bone-revealing wound on his left rib had even begun to scab over.
This was the Evergreen Skill.
Not only did it provide abundant and inexhaustible internal energy, but it also nourished the body and accelerated recovery.
Li Jinshui took a deep breath and brought up his stats panel:
[Points: 376]
Enough.
A rain of arrows descended first.
This time, Li Jinshui didn't raise his shield.
He simply stood there, watching the arrows rain down.
"Captain!" a new recruit beside him exclaimed.
Li Jinshui didn't move.
Arrows struck him, clanging and clattering—then bounced off and landed on the ground.
His body was like solid rock.
A faint layer of stone-blue color appeared on his skin; the arrows left not even a white mark.
Li Jinshui glanced down, a smile playing on his lips.
Attacks from the Body Tempering Realm were ineffective against him.
"Kill!!!"
Di soldiers surged onto the city wall.
The first to charge, a ninth-level Body Tempering Realm cultivator, swung his curved blade down.
Li Jinshui neither dodged nor evaded, taking the blow head-on.
"Clang!"
The blade struck his shoulder, leaving only a shallow white mark.
The Di soldier's eyes widened in disbelief.
In that brief moment of hesitation, Li Jinshui's blade had already arrived.
White Tiger Blade Technique - Tiger Pounce!
With a single slash, the Di soldier was cleaved in two from shoulder to hip!
[Killed a Northern Di captain (Body Tempering Level 9), Points +9]
The second, the third, the fourth…
Li Jinshui stood on that section of the city wall like a tireless machine, not retreating an inch.
His Rock Body made him immune to any attacks from Body Tempering Realm cultivators; sword strikes left only white marks, and arrows bounced off. Occasionally, Di soldiers at the Inner Strength Realm would charge at him, but he could maneuver around them with his White Tiger Sword Technique and Inch Step.
More importantly, the Evergreen Skill kept his inner strength inexhaustible.
Others would tire after half an hour of killing, but he could kill for an hour and still be killing. Others would be exhausted after an hour of killing, but he could kill for two hours and still
be full of energy. The more he killed, the faster the Evergreen Skill circulated; the faster it circulated, the faster he recovered. A perpetual motion
machine.
This was the true perpetual motion machine.

The points were jumping wildly.
Li Jinshui added points as he killed.
First, he added Marching Step.
Although it's not useful now, it will come in handy someday.
[Consumes 50 points, Entering the basics of Marching Steps]
[Marching Steps: Not yet entered → Entering (0/40)]
His legs felt warm, and a strange sensation arose. The footwork for long-distance raids, covering a hundred miles a day without feeling tired.
Plus, the Rock Body.
The most important thing on the battlefield is survival.
[Consumes 100 points, Rock Body Proficiency +100]
[Rock Body: Entering (0/150) → Minor Success (0/200)]
Boom—
The heavy energy within his body suddenly became even more solid, flowing through his veins like lead and mercury.
The lapis lazuli on his skin deepened, faintly revealing a metallic luster.
Minor Success.
Now, let alone the Body Tempering Realm, he could even withstand a few full-force attacks from the early stages of the Inner Strength Realm.
Li Jinshui gripped his knife tightly and continued to kill.

By noon, the Di soldiers finally retreated in waves.
Li Jinshui leaned on his sword, panting heavily.
Not from exhaustion, but from excitement.
He glanced at his panel:
[Points: 412]
Another four hundred points.
At this rate, it wouldn't be long before he could master the Rock Body Technique to the Great Perfection, the Evergreen Skill to the Minor Perfection, and the White Tiger Blade Technique, Iron Wire Fist, and Inch Step Technique to the Minor Perfection or even the Great Perfection.
At that time—
he was thinking when he suddenly heard a loud bang.
"Boom—!!!"
The entire city wall trembled.
Li Jinshui turned his head sharply and saw smoke and dust billowing into the sky three hundred paces to the west.
Battering ram.
The Di people used a battering ram to smash open that section of the city wall.
"The city wall is broken!!!"
Someone shouted, their voice filled with fear.
Li Jinshui's pupils suddenly contracted.
In the smoke and dust, the Di soldiers surged into the breach like a tide. The defenders fought desperately, but the breach grew wider and wider, and more and more Di soldiers poured in.
That section of the city wall had fallen.
"Li Jinshui!"
Zhou Kui's voice came from afar, hoarse and barely audible: "Take your men and plug the breach!"
Li Jinshui didn't hesitate.
"Team A, follow me!"
He charged out, his Tiger Step technique pushed to its limit, moving as fast as the wind.
When he reached the vicinity of the breach, he saw a hellish scene—
the breach in the city wall was about three zhang wide, with rubble scattered everywhere. At least a hundred Di soldiers had already rushed in, fighting the defenders. More Di soldiers poured in through the breach, endlessly.
At the forefront was a Di centurion, mid-stage Inner Strength, wielding a giant axe that had already cut down seven or eight Zhou soldiers.
Li Jinshui didn't stop.
He charged directly at the centurion.
White Tiger Blade Technique - Tiger's Roar!
With a single slash, the blade's energy transformed into a tiger's roar, shaking the very soul!
The centurion was startled and raised his axe to block.
"Clang!"
Sparks flew, the centurion took a step back, and Li Jinshui also took a step back.
Evenly matched?
No.
Li Jinshui's lips curled into a smile.
He had only used seven-tenths of his strength.
Again!
White Tiger Saber Technique - Tiger Pounce!
Another strike, even more ferocious than before!
The centurion took another step back.
White Tiger Saber Technique - Tiger Sweep!
The third sweeping strike finally overwhelmed the centurion, slicing open his abdomen and spilling out his intestines.
"You—"
His eyes widened in disbelief.
Li Jinshui gave him no chance to speak.
Inch Step!
In a single step, he was already in front of him.
Iron Wire Fist!
A punch slammed into his chest!
"Crack!"
The sound of his ribs shattering was clearly audible. The centurion spat out blood and collapsed to the ground.
[Killed a Northern Di centurion (Mid-stage Inner Strength), Points +20]
The surrounding Di soldiers were stunned.
Li Jinshui was not stunned.
He turned and pounced on the Di soldiers.
Kill!
Kill!
Kill!
He killed for an unknown amount of time before finally driving back the Di soldiers at the gap.
But new Di soldiers surged forward.
Li Jinshui stood in the center of the breach, covered in blood, like a god of death.
Behind him, more and more Zhou soldiers rushed to reinforce him.
In front of him, the Di soldiers continued their frenzied attack.
"Hold on!" Zhou Kui's voice came from behind, "Reinforcements are coming soon!"
Li Jinshui didn't speak, but continued to swing his sword.
One strike, one enemy.
Two strikes, two enemies.
The White Tiger Sword Technique became more and more skillful and ferocious in his hands.
Inch-Step allowed him to maneuver within a small space, dodging one fatal attack after another.
Iron Wire Fist allowed him to kill with a single blow in close combat.
Rock Body allowed him to withstand attacks from the Inner Strength Realm.
Evergreen Skill ensured that he would never run out of energy.
He was a never-ending killing machine. He
killed from noon to dusk, from dusk to night.
The breach was still there, but the Di soldiers still couldn't break through.
After nightfall, the Di soldiers finally retreated.
Li Jinshui leaned on his sword, standing in the center of the breach, panting heavily.
He was covered in blood, his own and the enemy's, indistinguishable.
More than a dozen new wounds appeared on his body, the most severe being a slash from his left shoulder to his right waist. Had it not been for his minor mastery of the Rock Body technique, this blow would have cleaved him in two.
Yet he stood, ramrod straight.
Zhou Kui walked over, looked at him, and remained silent for a long time.
Then he said, "The breach was held. You did it?"
Li Jinshui nodded.
Zhou Kui looked at him, his eyes a complex mess.
"How many did you kill?"
Li Jinshui thought for a moment, then shook his head.
Countless.
Zhou Kui didn't ask further.
He simply patted Li Jinshui's shoulder, then turned and left.
Li Jinshui stood by the breach, looking at the Di camp in the night.
In the distance, the firelight still flickered.
Tomorrow, they would come again.
The day after tomorrow, they would come again.
Until the city fell, or they retreated.
He brought up his interface:
[Name: Li Jinshui]
[Realm: Inner Strength Realm (Mid-Stage)]
[Techniques: Evergreen Skill (Minor Success 12/500), Rock Body (Minor Success 0/200), White Tiger Saber Technique (Entry-level 45/80), Iron Wire Fist (Entry-level 38/60), Inch Step (Entry-level 29/50), Marching Step (Entry-level 0/40), Iron Shirt (Perfect), Wolf Killing Seven Styles (Perfect), Tiger Walking Step (Perfect)]
[Points: 428]
Just now, in order to maintain sustained power, a large number of points were spent on Evergreen Skill.
Now I am in the mid-stage of the Inner Strength Realm!!
---
The night wind blew by, carrying a heavy smell of blood.
Li Jinshui took a deep breath and turned to walk into the city.
Behind him, the gap was still there.
But he knew that this was only the beginning.
The real fierce battle was yet to come.

Chapter 30 The Arrival of the Kaiyuan Realm
On the third day, before dawn, the war drums of the Di people thundered.
Li Jinshui stood on the city wall, his pupils slightly contracting as he watched the dark mass of Di soldiers surging towards them.
It was different.
Today's formation was completely different from the previous two days.
The Di soldiers at the forefront were no longer in a scattered charging formation, but in neat square formations. Behind these squares were more than a dozen siege towers taller than the city wall. Further back, a dark mass of cavalry stood ready, their battle banners obscuring the sky.
At least fifty thousand men.
"This is…" a new recruit beside him stammered, "This is the general offensive…"
Li Jinshui didn't speak, only gripped his sword tightly.
He glanced at his panel:
enough points.
The Di army began to advance.
Five thousand paces, three thousand paces, one thousand paces—
"Loose the arrows!!!"
A rain of arrows poured down from the city wall, but the Di army's shield formation was impenetrable; the arrows struck the shields, clanging and clattering.
The siege towers drew ever closer.
"Boom—!!!"
The first siege tower was mounted on the city wall, the gate opened, and Di soldiers swarmed out.
Li Jinshui rushed forward, slashing down the first, the second, the third—
but this time, there were too many Di soldiers.
Enemies were everywhere, impossible to kill, simply impossible to kill them all.
As he was fighting, he suddenly heard a deafening roar:
"Zhao Zheng!!!"
A figure soared into the sky from the Di army formation, stepping through the air, heading straight for the city wall!
A Meridian Opening Realm cultivator!
Another one!
Immediately afterward, a second figure also rushed out from the formation, similarly stepping through the air, following closely behind!
Two Meridian Opening Realm cultivators!
Li Jinshui's pupils shrank sharply.
Just then, a figure also rushed out from the city, wearing a black robe, his aura as imposing as a mountain—
Commander Zhao Zheng!
He rose into the air, slashing at the two Meridian Opening Realm cultivators with his sword!
"Clang—!!!"
The three collided in mid-air, a violent shockwave sweeping outwards, shaking even those on the city walls to their feet!
Zhao Zheng fought two against one, refusing to retreat.
But the two were clearly prepared, fighting and retreating, leading Zhao Zheng northwards.
"Commander!" someone exclaimed.
Li Jinshui watched the three figures fight further and further away, a sudden ominous premonition rising in his heart.
Something's wrong.
Why are they leading the Commander away?
Just then, in the distance to the north, three figures suddenly soared into the sky!
Meridian Opening Realm!
Three more Meridian Opening Realm cultivators!
They surrounded Zhao Zheng from three directions, blocking all his escape routes!
"Despicable!!!"
Zhao Zheng's roar echoed from miles away, filled with anger and resentment.
Five Meridian Opening Realm cultivators!
The Di people actually deployed five Meridian Opening Realm cultivators to kill him!
Li Jinshui's heart sank to the bottom.
The Commander was finished.
Jubei City was finished.
Just then—
a white light shot out from the southern horizon!
Quick! So
fast the naked eye couldn't even see it!
The white light arrived above the battlefield in the blink of an eye, hovering in mid-air.
It was a middle-aged man, early forty, with a handsome face, wearing a moon-white robe, standing with his hands behind his back.
He wasn't using anything. He
just stood
there in mid-air, suspended in mid-air. His robe fluttered in the wind, and his entire body emitted a faint glow—his protective true energy, condensed and undispersed, enveloping him.
The Opening Yuan Realm!
A true Opening Yuan Realm expert!
Everyone on the battlefield stopped what they were doing and looked up at that figure.
It was a pressure from an instinctive life force.
Like a rabbit seeing a tiger, like a flock of sheep seeing a lion.
He didn't even need to lift a finger; just standing there was enough to scare anyone into resisting.
The middle-aged man glanced down at the battlefield, his gaze settling on the five Di people at the Tongmai Realm who were besieging Zhao Zheng.
His eyes were calm, as if he were looking at five ants.
Then he raised his hand. He
didn't draw his sword.
He clearly had a sword hanging at his waist, but he didn't draw it.
He simply pointed his fingers like a sword and casually flicked them.
Just like that,
a white light shot out from his fingertips!
The white light was so fast that its trajectory was impossible to see; only a "poof" was heard—
a large hole exploded in the chest of one of the Di people at the Tongmai Realm!
The man looked down at the bloody hole in his chest, blood gushing from his mouth, his eyes filled with disbelief. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but only made a hoarse sound before falling from mid-air.
One sword.
No, one finger.
One finger killed a Tongmai Realm expert.
The battlefield was deathly silent.
The remaining four Di people at the Tongmai Realm turned pale and fled!
The middle-aged man waved his hand again.
A second flash of white light!
A slow-moving Di warrior at the Tongmai Realm had his right arm severed at the shoulder, screamed in agony, and fell from mid-air, his fate unknown.
The other three didn't look back, fleeing desperately, disappearing into the distance in the blink of an eye.
The middle-aged man didn't chase after them.
He simply stood with his hands behind his back, looking down at the tens of thousands of Di soldiers below.
Then he spoke, his voice not loud, but everyone heard him clearly, as if he were speaking right next to their ears:
"Get lost."
One word.
Tens of thousands of Di soldiers retreated like a tide.
Li Jinshui stood on the city wall, completely frozen, as if struck by lightning.
Kaiyuan Realm.
This was the Kaiyuan Realm.
He had seen the Inner Strength Realm, he had seen the Tongmai Realm, and thought that was the limit of strength.
But now he knew he was wrong.
The Tongmai Realm was nothing but ants before the Kaiyuan Realm.
With a single command, he killed one, wounded one, and scared away three others.
He didn't even draw his sword.
Li Jinshui's hands trembled slightly.
Not from fear, but from excitement.
So, such a realm exists in this world.
So, a person can be this strong.
He wanted to become stronger.
He wanted to become even stronger.
Strong enough that one day, he too could stand in mid-air like this, and with a single command, ten thousand armies would scatter.
The middle-aged man withdrew his gaze, glanced at Zhao Zheng, who was lying on the city wall, covered in blood, and nodded slightly.
"Zhao Zheng, you've worked hard."
Zhao Zheng knelt on one knee, clasped his hands in a salute: "Greetings, Seventh Prince!"
Seventh Prince?
Li Jinshui was stunned.
A member of the royal family.
That royal expert from the capital. The
Seventh Prince landed on the city wall. He glanced at Zhao Zheng, then at the ravaged city wall, and finally his gaze swept over the soldiers who were covered in blood but still standing.
His gaze lingered on Li Jinshui for a moment.
Li Jinshui felt that gaze and his whole body stiffened.
That gaze was calm, yet it seemed to see through all his thoughts.
In just a moment, that gaze moved away.
"Well done," the Seventh Prince said. "The capital's army will arrive in two days. I'll stay here for the next two days."
He paused, looking in the direction the Di people had retreated, a slight smile playing on his lips:
"I want to see if the Di people dare to come again."
Li Jinshui stood rooted to the spot, his heart pounding.
Not out of fear, but because of that one glance.
In that glance, there was scrutiny, assessment, and a hint of—
satisfaction?
He didn't know.
He only knew that from this moment on, his goal had changed.
The Inner Strength Realm wasn't enough.
The Meridian Opening Realm wasn't enough either.
He wanted the Origin Opening Realm.
He wanted to stand at that height.
In the distance, the Di banners still waved, but they dared not take another step forward.
In this battle, Jubei City had been defended.
But Li Jinshui knew that this was only the beginning.
The true path to becoming a strongman had only just begun.
