Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

Sydney's POV

I spun the spear in a clockwise motion, studying the field before me. Cass had conjured a field where wolves will spring out at any time. "How am I supposed to concentrate on this while you're asking me questions?", I cried out to her after realising there was a wolf stalking me from behind. "Every distraction is necessary to enhance your concentration", she replied.

A pack of wolves suddenly surrounded me. Search for the leader, I thought and carefully observed their movements. Running towards the one closest to me, trying to single out the leader, I conjured the spear into a longsword and slashed the wolf. The wolves hurdled to a corner, trying to protect their leader, but it was too late. I ran towards them and strangled the closest I could get.

"Strangulation is not necessary unless you are being attacked Syd", Nass froze me and flew down from her seat, "what did Ceri teach you at all?". "I thought...". "You thought wrong. Seeing them hurdling to protect the leader, you had two options; torment the others to lure the leader out or attack the leader directly with a long-range weapon".

"Start again, this time with two packs", she said and conjured a second pack. In turn, I sighed, conjured up twin swords, and steadied myself.

Second Earth Phase: Day 14

Ray and Kobie closed their eyes. "I want you to imagine that you're in a maze. Like seriously picture it", Nass walked around them slowly and suddenly knocked Kobie's head, " I said IMAGINE not SNORE!" .

Kobie sadly rubbed his eyes and sniffled.

Kobie: I wasn't sleeping.

Nass: Yes, it's always the guilty ones that deny their actions first(rolling her eyes). You're not making my work any easier.

Kobie adjusted his footing and closed his eyes again. "Now what you're about to do is simple: think of anything, like anything at all. The aim is to see how well your reflexes are".

She picked up a few stones, transformed them with fire to form shurikens.

Nass: What are you thinking of Ray?

Ray: A lovely sunset....

Nass: (chipping in) Who is there? What is going on?

Suddenly, she threw two shurikens at him. Managing to dodge them, he continued, " I'm admiring Sydney. She looks quite strong for a slender girl".

Enraged(for only Anak knows what reason), she throws three more at him. Unfortunately, two managed to scratch him, but he didn't flinch.

"Amsterdam is running away from her. For a thick girl, she's somewhat agile".

Kobie struggled to stifled his laugher, but it was too late.

Ray drew out his hand and slapped him.

Ray: No offence, you're stupid. You're utterly stupid

Kobie: (grabbing his cheek) So why exactly did you do that for?

Ray: To be honest, I don't know. I know it needed to be done

Kobie glared at him, ran up towards him and gave him a quick blow to the guts. "You BASTARD! Why can't I laugh at you?! Why can't I enjoy myself and my humour huh?!", Kobie raced, throwing punch after lunch at him. Making an effort to dodge but to no avail, Ray stumbled to the ground, covering his chest. "I concede! Stop it!", Ray shouted.

Kobie was not his usual self, Ray acknowledged. He knew he had hit a nerve, something he doesn't even do. As to why he slapped him, he wondered. Maybe he has indeed wronged Kobie.

For once, he was afraid.

Kobie's POV

I packed up my stuff and head to the door. "Tell him that I'm unavailable for awhile", I told Cass as I walked out.

What at all is wrong with him? In fact, why did I laugh? I don't usually laugh at cringe stuffs. So why now?

I slung the bag across my shoulder. Tonight, I'd stay over at Blades' home.

" You want to come over? To where?", Blades enquired after I requested to stay over. "Please Blades, just a night", I put my hands together, pleading, " I want to cool off for the night. I don't like it when I'm not calm".

He sighed and shook his head. Patting my back, he put my bag in his car. "Stay away from the Bourne's quarters", he said, beckoning me to sit down.
